Thyroid with heterogeneity

Common Questions and Answers about Thyroid with heterogeneity

Avatar n tn Heterogeneity means the tissue does not look the same throughout, some places it might be darker, some lighter on the ultrasound. Homogeneous tissue looks the same throughout. Heterogeneity of the thyroid tissue as opposed to homogeneity can sometimes indicate thyroiditis or inflammation of the thyroid, usually caused by autoimmune disease such as Hashimoto's or Graves disease.
487969 tn?1249313291 Stable, mild thyromegaly without focal thyroid lesion. Findings are consistent with a mild pattern of multinodular goiter. TSH done while in hospital for another thing and was 0.44. No other blood tests were done. I have no idea how I can have a Multinodular Goiter without nodules. This has been non-stop for 8 months and I just can't seem to get a valid answer. I really think this may be hashi (hetero texture), but I just don't know.
Avatar n tn 0 cm. Left thyroid measures 4.87 x 1.7 x 1.9 cm. The gland exhibits mild diffuse heterogeneity with mildly increased vascularity. No focal nodule is identified. Impression: Mild diffuse heterogeneity of the gland with mildly increased vascularity. No discrete nodule identified. I do have lupus and sjogrens syndrome. Experience anxiety, fatigue, hot flashes. Any help would be appreciated as I do not have an appointment with my endo for a month.
6424877 tn?1381180540 Heterogeneity means the the texture of the thyroid gland isn't uniform and smooth as seen with a healthy thyroid gland. This texture is spread over the thyroid gland (diffuse). A diffusely heterogeneous thyroid is commonly seen with an autoimmune disease called Hashimoto's thyroiditis. Thyroid calcification is a solid or semi-solid lump within the thyroid gland. Reasons for thyroid calcification include iodine deficiency and Hashimoto's thyroiditis.
Avatar m tn could someone explain to me what the findings are saying:The right lobe of the thyroid gland measures 3.9x1.5x1.9 cm and the left lobes of the thyroid measures 4.3x1.8x1.9 cm. the isthmus measures 0.3cm. there is heterogeneity of both lobes of the thyroid gland. there is evidence of a hypoechoic 0.58x0.66x0.5 cm right thyrodi nodule which is nonvascular. impression there is heterogeneity of both lobes of the thyroid gland and finding consistent with a 6.6 mm right thyroid nodule.
9240803 tn?1402547645 Heterogeneity means the the texture of the thyroid gland isn't uniform and smooth as seen with a healthy thyroid gland. I had elevated ALT and AST for years due to undiagnosed Hashimoto's thyroiditis. Antibodies to check for this autoimmune disease are thyroid peroxidase antibodies (TPOAb) and thyroglobulin antibodies (TgAb). If you find the presence of one autoimmune disease, you have a higher chance of another autoimmune disease.
Avatar m tn *enlarged thyroid gland with multiple tiny nodules and heterogeneity. * likely reactive lymphadenopathy withibn the upper neck. * enlarged thyroid gland abuts the lateral margins of the lateral margins of the cervical esophagus just beyond the esophageal verge. her pediatrician said is not bad and send her for blood work and ultra sound in 3 weeks. should I wait the much, she is been sick with cough, ear pain and rainy nose for more than a month but he keeps saying it may be a virus.
Avatar f tn 8cm Both lobes demonstrate diffuse mild heterogeneity, with several scattered tiny cystic nodules which measure less than 3mm in size. No dominant solid thyroid nodule or mass. Impression: Bilateral thyroid tiny cystic nodules. No dominant solid nodule demonstrated. My question: Should I be concerned about the cystic nodules? Will they shrink on their own? What are possible causes? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
487969 tn?1249313291 Stable, mild thyromegaly without focal thyroid lesion. Findings are consisten with a mild pattern of multinodular goiter. NOW --- can you have a multinodular goiter without a nodule?? Hmmmm... WHAT?? - i AM CONFUSED. If I don't have a nodule, what's the **** beside my trachea? Hmmmm..........
Avatar f tn I have been dealing with a goiter for almost a year. I had an ultrasound in May last year where there were no discrete masses identified—just lots of inflammation. The diagnosis at that time was Hashimotos, but I am negative for both antibodies associated with Hashis. Then, because I had been having some pain in my neck and ear, I had a CT scan which did indicate at least two nodules.
Avatar f tn 3, would consider thyroid ultrasound to evaluate for nodules and more importantly for heterogeneity of the gland which could be an indication of chronic inflammation (ie Hashi) even with negative antibodies. If the ultrasound is normal (ie no significant nodules and normal homogeneous echotexture) then not likely a significant thyroid problem.
Avatar f tn //www.medhelp.org/posts/Thyroid-Cancer---Nodules--Hyperthyroidism/Normal-Thyroid-Size/show/263195 Based on your thyroid gland measurements, your thyroid gland is slightly enlarged. A normal thyroid gland will show an homogeneous (smooth and uniform) echotexture. A coarse echotexture means your thyroid gland is not smooth. "However heterogeneity may persist if the chronic thyroiditis ensues [fibrosis may set in within the gland, resulting in a coarsened echotexture]".
Avatar f tn 4cm long x 1.5cm tv x 1.4cm ap, Left 4.5cm long x 1.4cm tv x 1.2 cm ap. Entire thyroid gland has heterogeneous appearance. No nodules demonstrated. The heterogeneous appearance of the thyroid gland is similar to the comparison ultrasound 3/2009. TSH: 2.4, T4 9.3, FT4 1.09, Thyperoxidase AB 28.1, Thyroglobulin AB 40.7 Any clues for me? I know the bloodwork is within normal limits. THANK YOU!
Avatar f tn I had an ultrasound on thyroid that states Subtle, nonspecific mild heterogeneity of thyroid echotexture without discrete thyroid nodules or thyromegaly. Labs reverse T3 16 range 8-25ng/dl Thyroglobulin antibodies anti thyroglobulin < 20.0 range 0.0-39.9 IU/ML anti thyroperoxidase <10.0 range 0.0-34.9 IU/ML cortisol total am 7.6ug/dl T4 free 0.9 range 0.7-1.5 ng/dl TSH 0.61 range 0.35-4.94 I am so tired and so many other symptoms. Are these labs normal?
Avatar f tn Overall heterogeneity of the thyroid with numerous cysts throughout the right lobe, small non-specific nodules of th left lobe and a solid hypoechoic nodule of the left lobe as described above. Are "NUMEROUS cysts" in a lobe common, and should I have thyroid blood testing? I'm having FNA of the largest nodule on 10/22/09, but will they also biopsy the gland tissue that isn't a nodule or cyst?
Avatar f tn The size of the thyroid is normal and there is no nodule. The heterogeneity is nonspecific, but sometimes seen in autoimmune thyroid disease (ie Graves or Hashimoto's). The TSH is only slightly low so at this point, would usually recheck in 6 weeks to see if a pattern is evolving, but there does not appear to be any specific thyroid treatment that is needed yet.
1918828 tn?1328123158 Heterogeneity on ultrasound combined with the positive thyroperoxidase antibody and the borderline TSH levels are all consistent with an autoimmune thyroiditis due to Hashimoto's. The high total T3 most commonly in the setting would be due to estrogen containing birth control pill. Reactive lymph node enlargement is not uncommon with Hashimoto's.
Avatar f tn Heterogeneous means not uniform in texture. In other words, your thyroid gland is not smooth in appearance. Nodularity bilaterally means there are thyroid nodules on both thyroid lobes. A diffusely heterogeneous thyroid gland a typical finding with autoimmune thyroid disease such as Hashimoto's thyroiditis or Graves' disease.
978469 tn?1433547946 ) anyway, I recently had a follow up ultrasound. My last one 2 years ago showed moderate to severe fatty liver with mild enlargement. I was also 60 pounds overweight. I lost about 35 pounds and have been exercising etc. All my LFTs are normal. PT time normal Platelets 240,000 No abnormalities. I just had a follow up abdominal ultrasound and the results are: Hepatic echo texture is mildly heterogeneous possibly representing mild patchy fatty infiltration.
Avatar n tn This description is fairly low risk for a cancer. It sounds like you have autoimmune thyroid disease (ie, Hashimoto's -- based on heterogeneity and onset around time of pregnancy) with normal thyroid function. A hyperechoic nodule in this setting is rarely cancer. Seems okay to wait 3 weeks. The endocrinologist may decide to FNA biopsy this nodule to confirm it is benign.
