Avatar n tn Anti TPO test is NOT DONE unless your standard thyroid labs (TSH) are out of range. But guess what, your thyroid could be well in range and still you have all the symptoms. When i didnt know about any of this, my thyroid would be in range, some times over 2 and even over 3 and i would feel really sick but since it wasnt over 4 nobody mind testing antibodies, until it was 6 and i thought i had bone, fibers, organs and brain cancers all at the same time.
393685 tn?1425812522 They got their name because they sit behind or outside (para means outside) the thyroid gland. It is possible to remove the thyroid completely and not involve the parathryoids. They only come into the picture during a thyroid surgery when they get nicked or damaged during that surgery. I had one parathyroid gland go hyper and it had to be surgically removed. I also had my enlarged thyroid gland removed at the same time. Those were considered two separate surgeries, done at the same time.

Avatar n tn It is possible you should put this question to the expert Doctor Forum
706949 tn?1228923298 I take it your reference article is in Wikipedia. From what I've seen there on heart subjects there is a lot of "good stuff", or so it appears. I understand too that some (much?) of what's there is from voluntary contirbuitons. That said, I recommend you discuss with the prescribing doctor and let s/he know you've see such-and-such as a point-of-reference ... it may even be a good idea to print out the material and take it with you.
Avatar m tn Hi there. This is not a doctor forum, but a patient forum. MagiePieAnne's daughter was born without a thyroid. I will alert her to this message. In the meantime, please get a thyroid ultrasound of your baby and make sure to get a full workup on the pituitary gland. This could be pituitary or a thyroid issue. Also, the FreeT3 and FReeT4 tests are direct measurements of thyroid hormone. TSH is actually a pituitary hormone, the message that the pituitary gland sends to the thyroid.
16758124 tn?1451221777 I'm not sure what your actual question is... Do you have results of thyroid hormone tests that you could post so we can see what your actual hormone levels were when you were hyper, hypo and now, when you're back to normal? Be sure to post reference ranges with all results since ranges vary lab to lab and have to come from your own reports. Also not sure what your "high dose of Vitamin CD is"... What dose of iodine did you take and for how long?
5449245 tn?1368135459 I've been taking thyroid medication for years. My thyroid has only been functioning properly for the last 3 years because no other doctor could get it right! Lol. My eyes didn't start getting puffy until about a year and a half ago, maybe 2 years. The medication I'm on is working for me and has for the last 3 years. I just don't understand why my eyes are puffy now, after all of these years.
Avatar f tn I am on Plavix but was off it for 2 weeks because of a needle biopsy of thyroid for nodules. My question is could going off Plavix possibly cause a TIA and how long does it take to get the level of Plavix back where it should be once you start taking it?
1618236 tn?1408072214 It is certainly possible. Although your labs do not suggest that your thyroid status is much outside the "normal" (in fact different doctors would say different things about whether the isolated elevation in your TSH is significant or not). One useful way of assessing this is for you to find a checklist of "hypothyroid" symptoms to see whether and to what extent your physical symptoms suggest that your thyroid is possibly causing you problems.
12182312 tn?1427683956 I have hives when exposed to water. In my case due to having too much thyroid hormone in the blood (even if I don't feel hyperthyroid!). The condition is called aquagenic urticaria aka water hives. This is a rare type of physical urticaria. Treatments include avoiding the cause (if possible) and anti-histamines. Excerpt from Wikipedia - Physical Urticaria... "The cause of physical urticaria is unknown but it has been suggested to be an autoimmune disease.
Avatar f tn Hypothyroidism High levels of TSH indicate that the thyroid is not producing sufficient levels of Thyroid hormone (mainly as thyroxine (T4) and smaller amounts of triiodothyronine (T3)). Hyperthyroidism A low TSH indicates that the pituitary gland is being inhibited by increased levels of T4 and/or T3 in the blood, and is therefore a reliable marker of hyperthyroidism.
Avatar m tn s Thyroiditis and it sounds like the swallowing issue indicates that you may be dealing with a goiter (swollen/inflamed thyroid). You may also have nodules on your thyroid. The ultrasound will verify this. What medication have you actually been taking for your hypothyroidism? I'm assuming that it's some type of levothyroxine, since you're taking 112 mcg...
Avatar m tn Since you have temperature fluctuations the first things to be ruled out are thyroid disorders, adrenal gland problems, anemia, diabetes, hypoglycemia, liver diseases, low Vit B12, and vasovagal attacks. Carcinoid syndromes and H pylori infection of the gut too can cause increased sweating and hot flashes.
Avatar n tn These antibodies actually attach themselve to the TSH receptors in the thyroid causing the thyroid to produce increased amounts tof T3 and T4 and a decrease in TSH levels. 3. Monitor your iodine intake. Excessive iodine intake (salty foods) can cause you to go into crisis 4. Ask you doctor about treatment for hyperthyroidism.
