Common Questions and Answers about Thyroid weight training

Avatar f tn Since you asked the question about weight on this Thyroid Forum, I have to ask if you have any reason to believe that thyroid is involved? Do you have any of the typical hypo symptoms shown in this link? http://endocrine-system.emedtv.com/hypothyroidism/hypothyroidism-symptoms-and-signs.html Have you ever been tested for the biologically active thyroid hormones, Free T3 and Free T4?
Avatar f tn I don't want to be discouraging, but think about it this way: if you're only running say two miles, three days a week, you are only burning an extra 600 calories a week. You have to burn 3500 extra calories to lose a pound, so it would take you six weeks to lose one pound by simply running two miles, three times a week. It's awesome that you're taking charge of your health and doing cardio, but have you thought about also doing strength training?
Avatar f tn You might also want to have some simple blood tests done to rule out a thyroid condition, called hypothyroidism (under active thyroid), which makes weight gain difficult to impossible. The tests you need are TSH, Free T3 and Free T4.
Avatar f tn I also stopped drinking pop and am really working on cutting out processed foods. However, I am not loosing weight. I count calories but that has not seemed to help. My blood work from the doctor came back normal except a slight increase in calcium. after testing that again, it was in the normal range. Any advice on what I should do?
Avatar f tn Just because thyroid test come back "normal" doesn't mean it's all normal for you AND it depends on what whether your doctor is actually ordering the Free T3 and Free T4 tests or if s/he's just ordering the TSH test as so many do. Because the thyroid controls metabolism, any time you have low metabolism, there's bound to be thyroid involvement, even if thyroid tests are in the normal range.
Avatar m tn What were the results and their reference ranges? Did the weight gain start when you first started training or had you already been training for a while before it started? What dose and which meds are you on? Sorry for all the questions...but need to know to answer properly.
Avatar n tn d average 3 days of strength training a week. For anyone struggling with weight loss, strength-training should be the first place you go, not cardio. Also, make sure you're getting plenty of protein. I cannot emphasize this enough, especially for a vegetarian. I usually go with organic peanut butter. I'll have one or two tablespoons after a strength-training session. Working out can often leave the body deprived of protein.
Avatar n tn If you find that you are keeping within the calorie intake of food recommended for men and are still putting weight on despite everything you are doing, then make an appointment with your doctor to check your thyroid level. An underactive thyroid glad will make it very difficult for your to lose weight. Best wishes.
Avatar n tn Rest about 30 sec and do a few more-- even just 2 at maximum weight. Rest than do even just one more. By now (if you are using enough weight) your muscle should be screaming. Eat protein within 1/2 hour of lifting. Drink a lot of water to flush the lactic acid out of the muscle. Then rest the next day, or work a different muscle group. Always let the muscles worked have a day to recover, or you'll just breakdown what you build up.
Avatar m tn I started at the gym almost 3 months ago and have lost just 4lbs. At this point, I should point out that I'm 5ft 9" and currently 13st 2lb. My physical comfort weight range is 10st 10lb - 11st 3lb, so I have just shy of 2st to lose.
Avatar n tn I have gained weight and lost so much muscle. I am so motivated to lose weight but nothing works. I have turned to a vegan lifestyle, walk 2.5 miles a day, religiously count my calories, and drink at least 48 oz of water a day if not more. I lost 1 pound in 2 weeks!!! Can anyone relate to what I am going through and give me some helpful advice...please???
Avatar n tn I will be getting my thyroid removed in a few weeks...I've been doing a lot of reading on it of course but have one worry and concern...I work for a freight transportion co. and on a daily basis lift over 50lbs and pull and push on containers weighing up to 5000lbs....doing work of this nature is it at all safe to go back to work in as soon as 2 to 3 weeks after surgery...
Avatar f tn I'm a 27 year old female. I weigh 220lbs. All extra weight is around the middle. I exercise 3x a week for 2 hours, all cardio. I eat mostly grains and vegetables/fruits and always less than 2000 cal a day. No junk, so soda. I have tried everything to lose weight. I have been tested for thyroid, diabetes, hormones. No one seems to know why I'm still fat. What do I do?
Avatar f tn Once you get clearance, start with 30 to 45 minute sessions of cardio training 3 to 4 times a week, and select one weight training exercise (set of 8 to 12 reps) for each muscle group. Do not forget to stretch after every workout. Thanks for asking.
Avatar m tn I'm using Synthroid for weight loss and muscle growth whle training. Does anyone know - is it safe to buy Synthroid online in places like this? Too cheap and no prescription needed, so I'm not sure.
Avatar m tn I'm a 44 year old female, 5'4" and weigh 160lbs. I'd like to weight 130lbs. I've been following Weight Watchers for 2 months, very faithfully, writing everything down, staying within my points range and I haven't lost a pound! Up 1lb. one week, down 1lb. the next week. This goes on week after week and I stay the same. I exercise my butt off at least 6 days a week for an hour or more a day. Cardio/weight training and Karate 3x a week.
Avatar f tn A few months later i was started on levothyroxine and this worked well for years. I gained a bit of weight but remained at this stable weight for a few more years even after the birth of another 2 children!! Around 18 months ago i started to GAIN weight excessively! (around 3 pounds per week). By the time i had gained approx 19 pounds i returned to my GP who thought i needed more thyroxine.
Avatar f tn I am weight training as part of my exercise routine. I used to take Creatine drops to supplement my energy and endurance. Now that I am on Cytomel, can I still do this? Finally, are there any safe fat burners and energy boosters that can be taken with Cytomel?
Avatar f tn I became really concerned when last summer I was looking to loose weight for my wedding so I started calorie counting (1500/day) and going to the gym 5 times a week doing 45 mins of cardio and 15 mins of weight training. I continued to gain weight . I have had my thyroid checked and it is normal. I also have slightly high cholesterol and fatty liver which seems highly abnormal to me as I am not a big meat eater or fat eater.
Avatar f tn Still I cannot lose weight. I am a pro-diabetic and it is very important that I lose weight. Please help!
Avatar f tn Muscle is your friend... however, make sure your strength training (weight lifting) is utilizing low weight and high repetitions... you most likely do not want to bulk up.
