Make sure your diet contains many basic foods (lowfat milk, fruits, vegetables, lean meats, enriched grains).
Avatar n tn So Free T3 and Free T4 will give the best picture of your thyroid status. Due to the cause for your weight gain, you should be able to lose some of the weight by getting your Free T3 to the right level for you. After that it may be necessary to work on diet and exercise to get where you want to be. But making sure your Free T3/metabolism are right should be the first step.
Avatar n tn I was doing really really well on .137 mcg of synthroid and 50 mcg of cytomel and my dr. took me down to 25mcg on cytomel. So I stopped taking all of the meds about 2 months ago. Will the portion of my thyroid that wasn't removed begin working again? Will I have more weight gain without meds, or will it go to hyperthyroid? Or will I have more weight gain or less on the smaller dosage?

Avatar f tn My daughter has all the signs of Thyroid problems but her blood test showed a level of 1.62 which is normal (I was told). But she has gain 40 pounds in 2 years (not changing any of her diet or exercise), she has joint pains, depression, anxiety, migraines and low libido and is always tired even if she has 12 hours of sleep. I was sure it was her thyroid but now that the blood test tells us it's normal I am at a lost. Any other idea what it could be?

Avatar f tn Perhaps someone can help me. i'm taking eltroxin, dose 0.15. i've been taking it for four years. i'm 20 years old and since i was diagnosed, i picked up 40lbs in the first year and since then i cannot lose the weight at all and its not my diet because i don't put weight on. its driving me mad! any ideas??
Avatar f tn re gaining weight, in spite of a healthy diet and adequate exercise, you should talk to your doctor about getting some simple blood tests to determine whether or not you have hypothyroidism (under active thyroid). The thyroid controls metabolism, body temperature, heart rate and other important body functions; if the thyroid isn't producing enough hormones, your body functions will slow down. The tests you need are Free T3, Free T4 and TSH.
Avatar f tn I seen to be having real problems shifting weight, have put on 10lb since January, not quite sure what to do, I try and go running 3 times a week, am trying to build up to 3 miles.
Avatar f tn I have hair loss, weight gain, dry skin, problems with my digestive tract like constipation and diahrea and acid reflux, constantly feeling tiredneed at least 10 hours of sleep. Is this all related to the thyroid or something else. Usually my blood tests come back normal but I take .1 mg of generic synthroid.
Avatar m tn Both thyroid diseases are when antibodies attack the thyroid gland. They think your thyroid is a disease, by mistake, of course, and attack it. I am not familiar with testosterone levels. I do remember adolescence and at that time I had crazy hormones. This may be the case with you, but it wouldn't hurt do run the tests.
Avatar f tn It has been biopsied four times, all benign. Although I have my thyroid tested regularly, it is always in the normal range. Recently, I have gained weight and feel tired all the time. I have a lot of headaches and have developed pain in my trigeminal nerve on one side of my face. It is not severe, but is constant if I touch my temple. The eye below it has ticks and sometimes feels swollen.
689678 tn?1227298364 I grew up being called skinny minny and was 5'8" tall. I always felt guilty when other people talked about weight problems, even during pregnancies I gained mostly baby weight. Since fibromyalgia I've gone from a trim size 9/l0 (not ever on a diet) to almost 50 lbs overweight and it just drives me crazy.
Avatar n tn The lab reports showed decreased TSH when I asked for those tests by chance so the endocrinologist suggested that the disease had not progressed for long, it was just the start with the emptying of all the thyroid . However, I have always had problems with losing weight,ALWAYS and of course the genetic makeup allows some of us to have a more active metabolism, but I always wonder whether for me is that only that or hypothyroidism has sth to do with it during all these years.
Avatar f tn t have a thyroid condition. You should request a songogram of the thyroid and also ask your gp for a referral to an Endocrinologist for further testing. Keep in mind that, most people who have a thyroid goiter (swelling at the site of the thyroid), will have normal lab results.
Avatar n tn Sorry to hear about your family's struggles. We have both thyroid problems in our family too. For the one with hypo... Keeping your meds level, drinking lots of water, eating a balanced mediteranian style diet and avoiding alcohol and late eating, and also staying active are the only things that seem to work for most. Make sure you're not undertreated. Some endocrinologists believe that patients do not feel well and can't lose weight unless TSH is in the low-normal range.
Avatar n tn about 8mths ago, I found 2 bold patches on my scalp, totally freaked me out, so I went to see my doctor and he said it was nothing to worry about, my hair will eventually grow back, at the time I was very stressed, so he said it could be the cause of it, I did mention that my family has a history of thyroid problems, so he suggested a blood test, when my results came back my thyroid levels were high 14.8..!! so they said i shouldn't worry it's probably caused by stress!!
