Avatar f tn Before further discussion please tell us about any other symptoms besides weight gain? Also, please post your thyroid related test results and reference ranges shown on the lab report.
Avatar f tn ll, I am a 26 year old female who a year ago started getting horrible facial acne but only on the cheeks and in the past year has experienced a unexplained 10 pound weight gain with no changes to her diet. I do work out more then I used to but the weight gain is all in the stomach and uneffected with exercise or diet. A year later doctors tell me " I'm 26 my metabolism has slowed down. " and that was my PCP, gynecologist, and a gastro doctor.
Avatar f tn It seems like the First place people gain weight is the stomach, and that's the Last place they loose it. The stomach area is exercised very little unless you do crunches all the time, so most fat will migrate there because it's a "safe" place to "live".
Avatar f tn There is no thyroid specific diet, but several books give good general advice on weight issues. If the thyroid function is normal or slightly high (due to cancer history), there is not much to do from a medication adjustment standpoint.
Avatar f tn I struggle with my weight as it is and i have heard that with a total thyroidectomy and going on synthroid weight gain is an almost certainty. Can anyone shed light on this..I am considering a partial and if its cancer having it done again. Good or bad decision?
Avatar f tn i cant loose weight i have thyroid and i have try so many things and its hard and i'm tired of trying everything and i have gone to the gym too... please help me what can i try?
Avatar n tn No supplement is likely to help. Weight is a balance of calories in // calories out ---- this is true for thyroid and non-thyroid patients. Keeping the TSH in target range (ask your doctor about your target as it may be different based on the thyroid cancer history).
Avatar f tn I have been trying to lose weight now for over two years and continue to gain no matter how much I exercise, I do mostly cardio very little weights. I have modified my diet and what I eat cut out soda and coffee and my main thing I do drink is water w/lemon...I have asked my dr several times why can't i lose weight and her response is to exercise more..I have had blood work done for my thyroid and it comes back "normal" .
Avatar n tn If you have Graves Hyperthyroidism then medications like carbimazole are needed to slow the thyroid back to normal to avoid complications like heart failure and stroke -- weight loss is common with hyperthyroidism and many will regain some of the weight as the thyroid is normalized.
Avatar f tn I have been gaining weight over the past 8years. I cannot seem to lose weight no matter what I try.I have done all the diets only to lose 5lbs and gain10lbs..Extremely tired all the time. I am 5ft 175lbs and 54 years of age. I do not want to be on any prescription medicine. I just lost my baby sister to breast and brain cancer and she too was hypothyroid . Is there any other alternative?
Business woman2 Other than this, in females, polycystic ovary too can cause weight gain. Diabetes and insulin resistance should be tested for. Anemia can cause weight gain through water retention. Please consult your doctor regarding this. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you. The advice may not be completely correct for you as the doctor cannot examine you and does not know your complete medical history.
199954 tn?1294944669 If your levels are ok, there is not much more to do from a thyroid standpoint. It is important to remember that most people with weight problems and cravings do not have a thyroid problem -- so it is likely, in large part, unrelated.
1426120 tn?1283039272 Certain medications like antidepressants cause weight gain. Polycystic ovary too causes weight gain, hence has to be ruled out by an ultrasound of abdomen. If the above causes are eliminated then you can join a weight trainer and a nutrition expert and follow their advice and lose weight under their guidance. Hope this helps. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
199954 tn?1294944669 I assume you meant one tablet 5x/week (not day). There are some people with weight gain with thyroid replacement - but most weight gain is (unfortunately) lifestyle. It is important to make sure the TSH in target range -- which may be 0.2-0.5 depending on the risk of your thyroid cancer.
Avatar f tn Since you both have had thyroid tests and say they are "normal", I would love to know what the results are because some people can fall into the "normal" category on the lab report and still have hypothyroidism because some doctors (and labs) still use outdated reference ranges AND what's "normal" on the lab report, may NOT be normal for you -- your body may need different levels of thyroid hormones.
Avatar n tn May need to see a endocrinologist to have your thyroid checked. Symptoms of an under-active thyroid include unexplained weight gain, fatigue, slow heartbeat, constipation, dry skin and a low tolerance for cold. The stress of trying to keep up with hormone needs can cause your gland to swell and create a bump in your lower neck.
648192 tn?1236223373 I suffered for years from fatigue, weight gain, dry skin, memory loss, constipation and feeling cold. She has all these symptoms, plus depression and anxiety. Her doc said they used thyroid drugs in bipolar patients prior to the release of many current drugs used for mental illness. Are we ignoring simple solutions for making people feel good by advocating it is all "in her head"?
Avatar f tn Does everyone gain weight with Hashimotos and hypothyroid. It is so depressing. I am thinking on going on WW or Nutrisystem, but will I lose weight if my thyroid is still screwed up? I have low motility too when it comes to digestion too. Took the sitz test and an average person can poop out the beads in 2 days and it took 7 for me. What have other done? I am frustrated!
Avatar f tn fatigue, weakness, weight gain, trouble losing weight, sensitive to cold, muscle aching and cramps, constipation, depression, memory loss, odd menstrual periods.
Avatar f tn Are there certain foods that I should avoid to prevent weight gain? Should I cut my alcohol and coffee consumption? I feel bloated especially at the end of the day. I've been on Synthroid 25mg for a week now and I feel my face is puffy and round. I also have an increased appetite! I'm 55 years old and in menopause and I really don't want to gain weight. I'm relatively physically active. Walks every day.
Avatar f tn No that's normal weight gain.. is your stomach big or something? Why would people on commenting on your size? My first pregnancy, I had already gained about 25lbs by 20weeks... ended up gaining 50lbs the entire pregnancy but i had thyroid issues. This time around, I am 24 weeks and have gained about 10 (i believe) but the number on the scale doesn't mean anything.
Avatar n tn When I began the synthroid, the weight gain stopped; however, getting off the excess is fairly perplexing to me also. I'd also appreciate info . . .
Avatar n tn WIthout the med. you may be heading into a whole bunch of new symptoms, talk to your Dr maybe there's another med. that doesn't cause weight gain, it may not have anything to do with the med.
