Avatar n tn If you have Graves Hyperthyroidism then medications like carbimazole are needed to slow the thyroid back to normal to avoid complications like heart failure and stroke -- weight loss is common with hyperthyroidism and many will regain some of the weight as the thyroid is normalized.
Avatar f tn Im a qualified personal trainer and what you described there is totally normal, your losing weight in a healthy manner which is hard to do so fair play to you, keep it up! The thyroid will set you back and losing weight will take longer! If you are worried and need any advice you can PM me!
Avatar n tn You really need to know why the doctor has prescribed those dosage levels. What blood tests were run and what were the actual results? The most important test, in my opinion is free T3, followed by free T4 and then maybe TSH.
Avatar n tn How constantly is constantly? Like, you eat all day long and large amounts? My gran used to eat all day, but she just was actually nibbling, and accidentally buying off her appetite by never sitting down to a full meal. Have you talked to a doctor about this? The usual reason for being underweight is that you are burning off more calories than you are taking in, and he or she might prescribe some of the nutrition shakes to supplement your normal meals if that seems to be what's doing it.
Avatar f tn Does everyone gain weight with Hashimotos and hypothyroid. It is so depressing. I am thinking on going on WW or Nutrisystem, but will I lose weight if my thyroid is still screwed up? I have low motility too when it comes to digestion too. Took the sitz test and an average person can poop out the beads in 2 days and it took 7 for me. What have other done? I am frustrated!
Avatar f tn You might also want to have some simple blood tests done to rule out a thyroid condition, called hypothyroidism (under active thyroid), which makes weight gain difficult to impossible. The tests you need are TSH, Free T3 and Free T4.
Avatar f tn m sure many others will lend some support as many have issues with wt. gain being hypothyroid and/or using thyroid medicines that are necessary for them.
4943237 tn?1428991095 ve both had it covered, but what about thyroid function? An overactive thyroid can cause racing heart and weight loss, as the entire metabolism speeds up. A thyroid function test is a matter of only one blood draw, and can tell a lot. Usually TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) is what's tested, but I wouldn't settle for that. Ask for TSH, T4, T3, everything. I personally have autoimmune underactive thyroid, which I've been medicated for for 35 years, no probs.
Avatar f tn I hate to answer questions with more questions, but --- Do you know for sure that you have thyroid issues? If so, why aren't you being treated for them? What tests have been done and what are the results, along with the lab's reference ranges? We all react differently to meds, foods, etc and while some people do well with a gluten free diet, my doctor told me not to bother with it because I'm not gluten sensitive. I do well with whole grains.
Avatar f tn s not unusual to gain a little weight when first starting to exercise. When you begin an exercise program, you begin building muscle, so even though you aren't losing pounds, you might be losing inches. You might want to take your measurements - waist, bust, hips, thighs, arms - you might actually be getting smaller. You might also want to think about getting your thyroid tested to make sure it's functioning properly since hypothyroidism is a major cause of weight gain.
Avatar f tn Have you been throwing up? My sisters pregnancry she lost 16 pounds in less than 2 weeks she was pretty close to the end of her first trimster she was really sick and hospitalized for dehydration from throwing up so much. I on the other hand haven't gained any weight and haven't lost any but I figure it is because I haven't had horrible morning sickness.
10025015 tn?1422498264 Why is my doctor so worried about me losing weight instead of gaining it? Before pregnancy i was 210, and today at my 12 week appointment i dropped to 198. I'm actually happy about the loss but i know i'm supposed to gain weight instead but it's just being sick & being nauseaded!
Avatar f tn Remember, most of the two-thirds of americans who are overweight do not have a thyroid problem. Would talk with your doctor about supervised weight loss plans (without weight loss meds).
Avatar f tn I have always struggled with weight loss/gain. Since I had my surgery a year ago, i gain weight from being less active. I think the pain and discomfort from anything always puts stress on the body and some ppl loose weight because of it or some ppl gain weight because of the stress on the body. For me being in pain and not being active as I use to be I gained weight easily. I am really confused with your story. You have tried everything in the book to loose weight.

Avatar n tn Is there any help for weight loss women that has a hysterectomy i exercise and eat right taken all kind of diet pills.
Avatar f tn Since you both have had thyroid tests and say they are "normal", I would love to know what the results are because some people can fall into the "normal" category on the lab report and still have hypothyroidism because some doctors (and labs) still use outdated reference ranges AND what's "normal" on the lab report, may NOT be normal for you -- your body may need different levels of thyroid hormones.
Avatar f tn my numbers are: TSH 2.3 (.40-4.00); Free T4 .73 (.70-1.8); Free T3 3.1 (2.3-5.0) My doses: Tirosint 50 mcg.; Cytomel 12 mcg/day My thyroid was destroyed roughly 8 years ago; the only problems I have is hair loss and weight gain - I don't overeat, I exercise - I don't eat processed foods - I could eat 1200 calories a day - good calories and put on weight. I grow most of what I eat. Help! I am 65.
Avatar m tn My first recommendation is make a visit to your primary care physician to run some simple blood tests to make sure your thyroid is functioning properly of if you may have developed hypothyroidism, which is an under active thyroid. Hypothyroidism is the main cause of sudden, excessive weight gain. The tests you need to ask for are Free T3 and Free T4, which are actual thyroid hormones and TSH which is a pituitary hormone that stimulates the thyroid to produce thyroid hormones.
