Avatar m tn This is the thyroid forum, and I'm not at all familiar with thymus cancer/Thymoma. To my knowledge the thymus has nothing to do with thyroid. Have you had any thyroid testing done to see if you may have an issue with it? Maybe you need to find another doctor.......
Avatar f tn Thymus uptake is not unusual with RAI in young patients. However, the thymus can be involved in the thyroid cancer as well (ie spread to nodes in thymus) - but the RAI would help treat that. I have not seen a case of Horners in this setting. Other than that, we wuld usually wait 4-6 months after RAI and re-evaluate with ultrasound, & thyroglobulin levels. Then at 8-12 months do a thyrogen stimulated thyroglobulin and I-131 body scan.
Avatar f tn Many many people have low Vit D. It is not always related to thyroid conditions, but many who have thyroid conditions have low Vit D too. It is often found in those with autoimmune disease too. They are still out in the verdict as to why. Your parathyroid glands would have also been under attack from the radiation and this could well be why you are low on Vit D. Many people who had radiation treatment for other things as children have a higher risk of developing a cancer in the thyroid.
Avatar n tn I am not well-versed in thymus disorders w/ exception that sometimes the thymus is enlarged/persists in autoimmune disease such as Graves and MG. I don't know of an association between prior thymectomy and FM/CFS - would pursue the usual work-up perhaps with a university based rheumatologist w/ an interest in FM/CFS and certainly would test thyroid function.
Avatar m tn Look up chronic fatigue syndrome and lupus on the internet and see how you measure up to their symptoms. If your thymus cell count is low you could be put on thymus extract either or both by oral and shots and hopefully it will help you to feel better. All your hormone levels should be checked if possible because when one gland is failing others can weaken from being overworked and you could be low on other hormones, eg. thyroid.
362387 tn?1207274119 What does it mean when an ultrasound show lymph nodes in the thyroid? Enlarged thyroid and thymus? What is that? That is what he said today. He is such a poop-head. He acts as if its a big deal if you ask questions or request certain tests. I did get him to do a cortisol test after he had to throw his little fit and then I had to throw my little fit.
Avatar n tn Will be in Sarasota next week. I didnt think it was thyroid... I think its thymus mass. Why hasnt ct scan picked up on it if I am already feeling massive pressure from it? Do I need a mri?
Avatar f tn The results were: The left lobe either measures 3.84 x 1.73 x 1.61 cm or represents a recurrence of thyroid tissue, possibly malignant. Absent right lobe of thyroid gland. In May of 2009, a thyroid uptake and scan was performed which stated: The thyroid images demonstrate an asymmetry in thyroid lobe size with a right-sided dominance. In Jun. 2009, has lab tests the results being: TSH: 1.356 T4: 1.42 Thyroid Peroxidase: 365 Antithyroglobulin: 22 T3: 3.
608956 tn?1233799415 Thanks a lot for all your help and support. I really do appreciate it 110%! On my CT is states that I have Thymus swelling & thymic hyperplasia. I had this done at the Veterans Hospital. Here's what it says: This is some hetergeneous appearance of portions of the thyroid gland. There is soft tissue density seen in the anterior mediastinal region which could represent residual thymic tissue or thymic hyperplasia.
448891 tn?1205917388 It sound as through you can't handle this pain you are in . I do not think this community can give you an answer. You need a doctor to look you over. Call the hospitol and speak to a professional.
Avatar m tn Based on this type of information and armed with the knowledge that the NIH and FDA will not support a study with the product since it is a combination of drugs including thymus, enzymatic poly-peptide fractions, crude thymus extract, thymosin, thymopoietin, thymus humeral factor, other nutrients, herbs, vitamins and enzymes, I then began to recommend thymus to my patients.
362387 tn?1207274119 Ultra sound showed lymphocytes, lympocyctic tissue with in thyroid with pattern. What does that mean?
1281181 tn?1271688273 My brother-in-law has MG. He had his thymus removed and is being treated for hypo thyroid. Basically his life is pretty tough. Does anyone have any diet, food suggestions or exercise suggestions that have worked for them? I am just looking for suggestions that he can do himself that might help. Thanks!
454046 tn?1244565593 hiya! yes I had my thyroid removed in 2008, I used to be a very active member of this group then, and its all changed a bit now, lol, i'll copy the q I asked on the cancer board :) Hi all, was just wondering your thoughts on taking thyroglobulin levels for thyroid cancer whilst on meds. I had TT in 2008, found pap thyroid cancer with lymph node involvement, neck and sternum and uptake in lungs, after two RAI's I was given the all clear (in 2010)last scan showed uptake in sternum (?
1710333 tn?1308165693 s it was discovered that anyone having under gone xray treatments for the thymus gland had a higher chance for thyroid cancer. Of course I had my thyroid checked then and do occasionally but was wondering if it could affect it in more ways than cancer.
1615971 tn?1299182939 I had a CT scan on the 11th on my chest, which by fluke caught part of my neck. The radiologist noted a nodule which indicated the need to be followed up via ultrasound. My doctor called and stated that I had a nodule, as the CT suggested and today I got the report. It reads as follows: Rt thyroid gland has normal echogenicity, and provides the measurements. (I get that, it's normal) Lt thyroid glad has mostly normal echogenicity, provides the measurements.
Avatar n tn The suregon had a radioligist in our home town to read the original films and they did not agree. They said they believe it is Residual Thymus. I am very confused and need some advise as what to do. Does the residual thymus need to be taken out and should I request the doctors still do a biopsy just to be on the safe side.
Avatar n tn I have an enlarged thymus. My doctor told me it approx 2.5 to 3 cm in size. I am overwhelmed and confused at the cause of this enlargement. At first I was told that we would scan then a biopsy, now I am being told this wpuld be a difficult surgery and we are going to do a pet scan in approx three months. I also was told to report any symtons. My question is can a thymus enlarge for no reason? Does this sound like a proper course of treatment. What symptoms does an enlarged thymus produce?
487969 tn?1249313291 The feeling of a lump in your throat might be from your thymus swelling--the thymus is below the thyroid, under the chestbone, and it shrinks after young adulthood. This would indicate a lymphatic issue. If your cervical lymph nodes (along your neck) and the ones under your jaw are swollen along with one or both clavicles and potentially your chestbone, we may have a winner.
Avatar m tn The thymus is a lymphatic organ that plays a vital role in the development and maturation of the immune system during childhood. The thymus is sensitive to any kind of bodily stress, including systemic infection, neoplasms, surgery, and chemotherapy. It may atrophy, with such stress but then regrow to its original size. The thymus is disproportionately larger in infants but gradually becomes replaced by fat and involutes throughout maturation.
Avatar n tn i have some symtoms of carciniod syndrome. My doctor told me I have new prominant thymus tissue . I will be having a third scan this week . I need to know what should come next. Also what cause a thymus gland to beome enlarged. This discussion is related to Enlarged Thymus Gland.
Avatar f tn They pass the upper parathyroids on the backside and then detach from the migrating thymus primordia to settle behind the thyroid gland. Sometimes a parathyroid primordium does not detach from the thymus primordium but migrates with it to the chest. That is why parathyroids can sometimes be found in the chest area or somewhere on the route to the chest. A Sestmibi Technetium scan is needed to find a possible adenoma (a tumor) in a parathyroid gland in the neck or chest area.
