Avatar f tn Often, in an effort to lose weight, people cut back on food right away, when all they really need to do, is shift to different types - go for veggies vs bread; water vs fruit juice, etc. The type of exercise you do, also has a bearing on whether you lose or not. May be that you just need to add some toning exercises to your routine to help get rid of that "fluffy" tummy fat.
594293 tn?1222655980 s the majority of it. It had not even occurred to me that it could be perimenopause until a few weeks ago. I went for blood work yesterday so I won't hear results until next week. I have made some changes such as changing to decaf coffee (and only drinking a fraction of what I used to), trying to eat healthy, etc. I would like some suggestions to help with the lightheadedness and jitteryness/nervousness though as these can be hard to deal with as many of you already know!
Avatar n tn You may want to post this question on the thyroid forum. There are many people there that know so much about thyroid problems. Take care.
Avatar f tn I'm 44 and have been very irregular with my periods for the last few years. I'm on the pill (Yaz) and never miss any. I'm still irregular on the pill even though my GYN put me on it to try and regulate me. I sometimes get my period during the "active" pills and not during the "inactive" pills. My cycle would last anywhere from 3 days to 14 days and would be very light to severe. The last day of my last period was May 1st. I haven't had a period since then.
Avatar f tn Are you under stress in your life at this time? And, have you had your thyroid levels checked because thyroid can cause these types of symptoms as well. Lastly, a lot of us have perimenopausal symptoms even when our blood tests are coming back to say, "No, you're not!" LOL Keep us updated!
Avatar f tn I'm almost 39 and my cycles are getting shorter (26 or 27 days vs 28 days). I've heard this is a sign of premenopause, so I'm worried my fertility is declining. Any advice?
Avatar f tn Some weight gain can occur during perimenopause; however, my first recommendation would be to visit your doctor and ask to get your thyroid tested. Tests for TSH, Free T3 and Free T4. An under active thyroid is a major cause for weight gain/inability to lose. About 3 1/2 yrs ago, I was where you're at now - about 105 - 108 lbs (I'm 5'0" tall). All of a sudden, I started packing on pounds like there was no tomorrow.
Avatar f tn Have had lots of tests, seen many doctors and the only thing that is ever found are high counts of thyroid antibodies. All other thyroid counts are normal. GYN has ruled out perimenopause as he has tested my hormones every three months. Saw three neurologists, had brain MRI w/contrast, EMG - no findings. Have seen three endocrinologists all say I have Hashimotos but anxiety/perimenopause is causing my symptoms not Hashimotos.
Avatar n tn Hello. I am a 23-year-old female, and I'm wondering if I'm completely too young for perimenopause! For the past several months, I've been having hot flashes and night sweats, my hair is getting frizzy and thin, my skin is getting dry, and my periods have become irregular, not to mention somewhat heavy and prolonged. I recently had some bloodwork, and I was told that some of my hormones were out of whack, but I was not told which ones. Could it really be perimenopause this early?
865758 tn?1285952904 s is an autoimmune disorder. Your body for some reason has developed antibodies that work against your thyroid. Your thyroid is no longer producing enough thyroid hormone and your TSH goes up trying to get your thyroid to produce, but it can't because it's being attacked by antibodies. Symptoms of hypo are the same because Hashi's causes you to be hypo. When I was diagnosed with Hashi's my TSH was around 5. and My antiboides were elevated, but not outrageous.
Avatar f tn Hello i was just wondering if anyone on the forum has experience inner body vibrations during the perimenopause stage which I an currently in. During this phase I have suffererd with some severe symptoms being thousands of eptopic beats per day in which I have been medically checked for and so far everything is normal. And now the body vibrations more noticeable during the night time when awoken from sleep which has been a common occurrence for me during this time.
Avatar f tn Is this hormonal or does it sound like I need a heart dr.? Could this be perimenopause or Thyroid. I have never had a problem ever before. I am pretty athletic. This put a halt in my running. Today while shopping I was leaning down and I felt really weird like my air left me and left the store, I hate what this is doing to me any Dr. input would be a blessing. What blood tests do I need to show if this is due to peri or thyroid?
Avatar m tn THANK YOU
Avatar f tn Did you have a "complete" hysterectomy? If so, you would have gone through "surgical menopause" at that time, so would not have had "perimenopause" symptoms, just 2 yrs ago. While the Hashimoto's may go into remission at some point, you will always have it and it's likely that your antibody level will continue to be higher than normal.
Avatar m tn You mention your age. Could you be in perimenopause? My cycle was like yours...regular as rain...until about 10 years before menopause, when it started to vary.
Avatar f tn Because of their extreme intraindividual variability, FSH and estradiol levels are imperfect diagnostic indicators of perimenopause in menstruating women. However, a low FSH in the early follicular phase (days 2–5) of the menstrual cycle is inconsistent with a diagnosis of perimenopause.
Avatar f tn This is the thyroid forum, and while I'm not an expert on perimenopause, I would certainly say a couple of things......... First off, all the hormones in our body must work together and if some are off, it could throw everything else off, as well. Secondly, I've never heard of perimenopause causing hoarseness, but hypothyroidism most certainly can. Have you had any thyroid testing done?
865758 tn?1285952904 I keep forgetting to mention the sweating issue to my endo because I am having so many problems! My endo does feel however that since my thyroid has gone untreated for soooooo long it may have caused early perimenopause! So here's my take on it all. My thyroid isn't functioning properly and will eventually die, so why not take it out? If I am in perimenopause and have no plans for futrure children (I have 4 and had tubal) why not take it out? But will they NO!!!!!!!
Avatar f tn Yeah, I get hot flashes, but I don't necessarily break out in sweats every time. However, along with my FMS, I have the chronic migraine disorder. I learned that this is often part of a migraine aura, although with me it isn't always part of the aura. But, I believe I'm in the early phases of perimenopause, as I am in my early 40's. I am NOT using Savella myself. The thyroid TSH tests normal, so protocol won't allow the other two thyroid tests.
Avatar f tn Went to my gyno today to have some blood drawn to see where I'm at with the whole menopause thing. Started having hot flashes after upping my Cytomel dosage and both docs want to see if it's hormones or the cytomel. My gyno said that since I have no uterus she'd like to start me on estrogen if my labs show that I'm in perimenopause. I don't know why but I thought that if you didn't have a thyroid you weren't supposed to take estrogen. What is the protocol for this?
923105 tn?1341827649 I was wondering if you dont have a thyroid issue going on, something is ringing a bell there but i cant recall the what, and whys of it, sorry! Cheers......
Avatar m tn After finding out ive an underactive thyroid, I had it for 3 years and didnt know, during this time i shredded 100-150 hairs a day, ive been taking 25mg thyroxine a day for 1 month, how long will the shredding take to stop roughly?
Avatar f tn in recent times it is thought that soy is not good for the thyroid, can result in temporary discomfort in the thyroid itself (inflames with pain) and sometimes thyroid symptom return for a short time. Many here report this, but may be rare, I doubt it affects the majority.
Avatar f tn Most of her symptoms can probably be chalked up to perimenopause except I've never heard of fainting related to the hormonal changes of perimenopause. And of course it's the most concerning. Iron deficiency can certainly cause problems including dizziness and feeling cold but I don't think fainting is one. Some of her symptoms could be an indication of a thyroid problem. Thyroid disease is fairly common and more so as we move toward or undergo menopause.
Avatar n tn I believe I am going through the perimenopause period because I have all the symptoms as regards to it. I have irregular periods, heavy bleeding sometimes, unexplained headaches, sleeping problems apart from the night sweats and hot flushes. I have also observed that my sex drive is completely gone. I saw my doctor a few weeks ago who suggested a hormonal balance test.
Avatar f tn insomnia, constipation/bloating, hair loss on head, new hair growth on face, intense premenstrual cramping and lower back pain, low libido, dryer skin, and just last night I had my first night sweat. I also now have chronic dark circles under my eyes and have noticed more brown spots on my face. I've had a ton of different hormones tested, all of which have been within normal range, and "good" according to my doctor. My thyroid is normal. My day-2 FSH is 5.8.
