Avatar m tn I am sure I gad Thyroid disease in my thirties also, I never had any symptoms other than a slightly elevated cholesterol level, but when I hit 58 things really started going down hill, I started out with insomnia and had to quit work because I could not sleep, and that made the fatigue worse, but everyone is different as far as symptoms go, some get most of them and others only a few, it seemed in my case, I had all of them hit me at once, it then took a year before I found an MD that diagnosed
Avatar m tn We're not all that quiet, just out numbered. I've been on thyroid meds for about 35 years, but really can't relate to your question. Everybody is slightly different. I am very confident that if hypo t is the underlying cause, then things will return to normal once you are on the correct meds and have time for the body to heal.
Avatar m tn Hi there, The common causes of hot flashes in males are andropause, thyroid disorders and aging hormones. As a man ages his body produces less testosterone and androgen which may cause hot flashes. Other causes of hot flashes are infections like HIV and tuberculosis. Use of medications like Nifedipine and Calcitonin and certain antibiotics are few other causes of hot flashes. Sometimes food containing monosodium glutamate can cause hot flashes.
Avatar f tn Well there are three separate issues with the thyroid. Hormones, Goiter and Lumps. Auto-immune thyroid disease can results in low (or high) thyroid hormones and cause the thyroid to enlarge. Auto-immune disease (Hashimoto's or Graves) is diagnosed via blood tests, TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone), T4/T3 (Actual thyroid hormones), and thyroid antibodies. If you haven't had these done, you should have them done. Your ENT didn't find any lumps but thinks your thyroid is large.

Avatar m tn While thyroid issues are more prevalent in females than in males, there are a lot of males with every kind of thyroid issue, including cancer, hyper and hypo. Unfortunately, thyroid issues don't discriminate between genders or age. We have several male members on the forum; maybe one (or more) of them will chime in. There's really nothing different about men having thyroid issues than there is with women having them.
Avatar n tn Welcome to the group, but I'm sorry for the reason you are here. I'm assuming you aren't currently taking any Synthroid since you will be having RAI pretty soon which would certainly explain your fatigue. Many people here are hypothyroid either because of having their thyroid removed or for other reasons and can surely sympathize with all the symptoms that go along with it. A great resource for the newly diagnosed thyroid cancer patient is www.thyca.org.
Avatar f tn I'm desperate to find help for multiple symptoms that I feel may be thyroid related. I moved to a different state across the country 20 years ago and I have yet to find a good endocrinologist who specializes in thyroid diseases such as Graves- consequently, for the last 20 years, my health has been spiraling down & out of control. I had severe Graves disease & had a thyroidectomy leaving 2gr in '75. I've been on 125 mcg Levothyroxin for many years.
Avatar m tn Uti's are common in women, but not so much in men. Only about 3% of all men worldwide get UTI's. You are part of that group. Hopefully antibiotics will clear it up and you'll not have to worry about it again. https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/320872.
Avatar n tn I also have many symptoms that would seem to indicate MEN 1 syndrome including high cortisol and high normal gastrin levels with pain in my pancreas every day. My testosterone was just checked and it was 274. But, I don't have PCOS. I have symptoms of a pituitary tumor - including intense intracranial pressure and hearing loss in one ear (left). But, only one MRI back 2001 showed a possible microadenoma, but they weren't sure, so it was dismissed.
Avatar n tn I just got off the phone with my PCP and he said "Only 1 in 1,000,000 men have thyroid problems and if you still need more proof that you don't have a problem go get another test done with someone else". "Every lab uses a different scale to evaluate TSH levels". Thanks alot doc...jeez.
Avatar m tn He said that because of the differences in the endocrine systems, women tend to feel symptoms more quickly than men because of the up and down nature of a woman’s naturally occurring cycle. Whereas a man’s endocrine system (especially the adrenals and testicular/testosterone levels) will compensate better than a woman’s and does so over a much, much longer period of time...resulting in those systems making up for the low levels of thyroid hormones!
Avatar m tn pdf So it would be a good idea to find out if your doctor is willing to treat clinically as described in the letter. If not, then you will need to find a good thyroid doctor that will do so.
Avatar f tn Could it be true the men actually have your pregnancy symptoms as well?? My boyfriend now complains about nausea, heartburn, and fatigue now that I'm pregnant. I laugh at him but he takes it quite serious. Could it really be real?
Avatar n tn "June 7, 2011 — A decline in testosterone levels as men grow older is likely the result -- not the cause -- of deteriorating general health, say Australian scientists, whose new study finds that age, in itself, has no effect on testosterone level in healthy older men.
