Avatar f tn Ok..to start with , dont toy around with any meds....allow each med to get into your system (around 3 months) and take it from there. What were your last lot of elevsl and how long since RAI? The swelling around the eyeball is NOT from RAI or from the meds. It's also fairly common for your eyes to exhibit mild signs of a condition known as Graves' ophthalmopathy. In Graves' ophthalmopathy, your eyeball bulges out past its protective orbit (exophthalmos).

Avatar f tn I have a toxic nodule right lobe of my thyroid. I've reached to the point where i need surgery or radioactive iodine. My cousin had thyroid cancer last year. I am finding it hard to make a decision, which procedure is better choice long term?
Avatar f tn I have had my thyroid removed as I had a cancerous nodule in it. I was told I might have TAO because I have had dry eye syndrome for years and also a persistent pain in my neck. Do you think I have Gaves ophthalmopathy?
Avatar n tn TED is found in persons with Hypothyroidism, Hashi, Hyperthyroidism, Graves', persons taking Armour, and in people with no other evidence of thyroid dysfunction, and, is more severe in people who smoke. For that reason, the preferred name is now Thyroid-Associated Ophthalmopathy (TAO), or Thyroid Eye Disease (TED) rather than Graves' Ophthalmopathy (eye disease).
Avatar f tn ( Does anyone have any suggestions or any opinions on if it actually could be thyroid issues?
Avatar n tn I never related anything to my Thyroid (nor has 15 Doctors)......just thought I lived in a horribly uncomfortable type A body that could eat anything it wanted to, yet feel shaky, jittery and sleepless. Not worth the price for thin!!!!! I see all these medicines talked about on here but are certain ones for Hypo and certain ones for Hyper? Is this Armour a Hyper medication? or should I be seeing something else doled out to me?
Avatar m tn Thyroid stimulating immunoglobulin (TSI) — The presence of this antibody is diagnostic for Graves disease. Thyroid stimulating hormone receptor antibody (TRAb) — less specific than TSI Anti-thyroid peroxidase antibody (anti-TPO) — This autoantibody is found in most people with Graves disease as well as in Hashimoto thyroiditis.
Avatar n tn With Graves Disease, the thyroid produces too much thyroid hormone. Levo is given when the thyroid does not produce enough, so apparently, you were hypo before your TT, which means you wouldn't have had Graves Disease. Since you no longer have a thyroid, there's nothing to produce too much hormones except the medication you take on a daily basis, so, no, you can't develop Graves Disease after TT, but you "can" be over medicated.
374933 tn?1291081784 TSI also contribute to the related eye disease, Graves’ ophthalmopathy. TSI is used to diagnose Graves’ disease, to monitor response to anti-thyroid drugs and to helping predicting remission. While the normal range is <130% activity, individuals who are normal do not produce TSI and have levels <2% activity. Individuals with levels between 2 and 125 %, which indicates thyroid autoimmunity, do not generally develop symptoms of hyperthyroidism until levels rise.
Avatar f tn I have severe Graves Ophthalmopathy and my Ophthalmologist has just put in a referral to have Orbital Radiation. I am having trouble finding information on this and am very nervous. Has anyone had this done? Or have any information about it? I'm hoping that the benefits will outweigh the risks... as my eyes are so sore and bulging and I really want some relief (without going back on steriods)! Thanks for any info you may have!
Avatar f tn TSH 0.01 (.27-4.20) FT3 4.1 (4.0-6.8) FT4 14.1 (12-22) Does anyone know of any shin conditions that are associated with thyroid other than Pretibial myxedema? I found a link that says "nearly all patients with pretibial myxedema have thyroid ophthalmopathy." which I don't have though I've stared to get white foamy discharge on the inside corners of both eyes. I have what stared as an itchy rash on my shin for almost three weeks now.
Avatar n tn What's the best way to take GcMAF for people with Grave's hyperthyroidism/ Grave's ophthalmopathy? Can't afford getting a treatment from a clinic with injections so what's the best oral GcMAF? Sublingual, yogurt, tablets/capsules and where to get them from a trusted source in Europe? Thank you.
Avatar f tn personal_page_id=2274510 Contraindications for RAI [radioactive iodine] therapy are pregnancy [absolute], ophthalmopathy [relative - can aggravate thyroid eye disease], and solitary nodules.
Avatar f tn Thank you for your answer. My level was 11.5 and the normal range is 4,5 to 11.2. The weird thing is that my symtoms are more from hipo than hyper. It doesn´t matter how much cream I use, or how good I eat, my skin is falling apart and always have acne and keratosis all over. I´m getting desperate now...
Avatar f tn Thank you for your responses. Yeah it is so frustrating! I was diagnosed July 31/08, so it has already been a long road... I was on Prednisone from November up to 5 weeks ago. I WILL NOT go back on that. Not only did I have bulging eyes, but had VERY puffy cheeks. No one recognized me, so I didn't leave the house. Now that my cheeks have come down I am looking alot better and HAVE left the house! Yah!
Avatar f tn What is the differences between Endophthalmitis and Graves Ophthalmopathy with enlarged eye muscles? I have researched the treatment for fungal Endophthalmitis with Diflucan. Why would this not be a potential treatment for the enlarged eye muscles?
Avatar f tn Several medical disorders can be confused with Inappropriate Sinus Tachycardia which includes hyperthyroidism, pheochromocytoma, diabetes-induced autonomic dysfunction, and substance abuse. Thyroid stimulating immunoglobulins (TSI) are responsible for Graves' Disease, thyroid eye disease (Graves' ophthalmopathy) and also the skin condition known as pretibial myxedema.
