Avatar m tn I am sure I gad Thyroid disease in my thirties also, I never had any symptoms other than a slightly elevated cholesterol level, but when I hit 58 things really started going down hill, I started out with insomnia and had to quit work because I could not sleep, and that made the fatigue worse, but everyone is different as far as symptoms go, some get most of them and others only a few, it seemed in my case, I had all of them hit me at once, it then took a year before I found an MD that diagnosed
Avatar n tn can men have Thyroid Disorders? This discussion is related to Levothyroxine substitution and anaphylactic shock symptoms.
Avatar m tn i am a man of 42 years old first had thyroid problems when i was 25 the last 12 months have been horrible feel a lot better now. is there any men who have had thyroid problems or is it just women.
Avatar n tn Welcome to the group, but I'm sorry for the reason you are here. I'm assuming you aren't currently taking any Synthroid since you will be having RAI pretty soon which would certainly explain your fatigue. Many people here are hypothyroid either because of having their thyroid removed or for other reasons and can surely sympathize with all the symptoms that go along with it. A great resource for the newly diagnosed thyroid cancer patient is www.thyca.org.
Avatar f tn the total weight of the thyroid is approximately 20 - 25 grams; the thyroid is usually larger in women than men.
Avatar m tn Hi there, The common causes of hot flashes in males are andropause, thyroid disorders and aging hormones. As a man ages his body produces less testosterone and androgen which may cause hot flashes. Other causes of hot flashes are infections like HIV and tuberculosis. Use of medications like Nifedipine and Calcitonin and certain antibiotics are few other causes of hot flashes. Sometimes food containing monosodium glutamate can cause hot flashes.
Avatar m tn HT is seven times more likely to occur in women than in men. Papillary thyroid cancer (PTC), the most prevalent form of cancer in the thyroid, is 2.5 times more likely to develop in women than men. Given the relatively high prevalence of these diseases and the increased occurrence in women, we analyzed data from our institution to determine if there is a correlation between Hashimoto's thyroiditis and PTC in women.

Avatar n tn A lot depends on overall health, but by age 70, about 15% of men experience complete erectile dysfunction. About 70% will have experienced mild or moderate ED. (https://www.uwhealth.org/urology/erectile-dysfunction-ed/20537) You posted in the Prostate Cancer forum. Have you had prostate cancer? That could certainly be a factor, or the treatment of it could be. The meds you take have been shown to help some men with ED, but a lot depends on the cause of it.
Avatar m tn Does under active thyroid causes to decrease testosterone in men. What is the exact relation with thyroid and testosterone. I could not able to get concrete explanation over internet. Does anyone treated for elevated TSH and low T with levothyroxine?
Avatar m tn t ( i think) decide just men and women testing do they? But I am seeing more men discovering hypothyroidism and I think because of their attention to THEIR needs with regular visits - they are finding hypothyroidism more in thier lives too. Michael, I want you to understand the whole concept of thyroid disease and the controvery involved. You need to really understand "what" they are testing you for and correct labs you need to have done to really pin point the disease.
Avatar n tn According to blood tests, his thyroid levels are now where they should be, but he is still experiencing symptoms of hypothyroid. Most of the symptoms he is still suffering with seem to be mental in nature - depression, irritability, and 'brain fog'. He is in the I.T. field (mainly database stuff) and these symptoms have severely hampered his ability to work. He can't seem to focus or problem-solve. This has been a nightmare for both of us. Is this normal?
Avatar m tn s thyroiditis (HT) is the most common cause of hypothyroidism and is characterized by gradual autoimmune mediated thyroid failure with occasional goiter development. 665293 tn?1225235508 after surgery, THANK GOD we found it was not cancer but my Father had his thyroid removed due to thyroid cancer and now with this going on with my son and already having one cancer scare i'm really trying not to freak out and keep him calm. His pediatrician is wonderful and making an appt. with a pediatric endocrinologist for him but i'm really worried about what could be causing the enlarged thyroid along with the elevated TSH level. Any ideas??
Avatar n tn I also have many symptoms that would seem to indicate MEN 1 syndrome including high cortisol and high normal gastrin levels with pain in my pancreas every day. My testosterone was just checked and it was 274. But, I don't have PCOS. I have symptoms of a pituitary tumor - including intense intracranial pressure and hearing loss in one ear (left). But, only one MRI back 2001 showed a possible microadenoma, but they weren't sure, so it was dismissed.
Avatar n tn , I am glad I have found your website as I have been struggling to diagnose my condition which I suspect is related to thyroid/adrenal/sex harmone disorders. Through self help and research, I have done some lab tests but I am struggling to interpret my lab results. My GP has not been of much help in diagnosing my condition or getting my tests so I have done everything privately and need some help to interpret results.
Avatar n tn Hi I have MENS and had my thyroid, parathyroid and lymph nodes removed because of MTC. Have your calcitonin levels been checked? I have done a lot of research on it and if appears the only way to prevent the MTC from occuring is to remove the thyroid. I'm not a Dr however I researched it a lot because of having it.
Avatar m tn However, this has caused a lot of health issues for consumers—especially men. Men who weren’t expecting to be exposed to hormones from foods like beef and chicken have found themselves negatively impacted. In particular, hormones added to meats and poultries can inhibit testosterone production while encouraging the production of estrogen, which is the female hormone. Elevated levels of estrogen in men cause them to take on more feminine characteristics.
Avatar m tn Ok, so I'm not trying to be sexist or say that women are weak, etc ... but I am a 27 year old male and just had a TT last monday and I don't understand the up's/down's that most of the women on this board are complaining about while on thyroid medication. I have been reading on here for a couple of months now and it appears to be 95+% women complaining about problems with weight gain, depression, moodiness, fatigue, etc... and it all seems overly exaggerated.
Avatar f tn just on my block there are 8 households with one or more thyroid disorders and thyroid cancer...just thought I would ask......
Avatar f tn he electrical current / internal tremors you are experiencing is because of a drop in your hormone levels. It is not directly caused by your thyroid hormone levels, but abnormal thyroid hormones can cause a drop in your other hormones, when then leads to the internal tremor. It is NOT fatal, but it can be very scary. The tremors can be more noticable with added stress or upoon waking, going to sleep or resting.
