Avatar m tn Stage 1 kidney disease can often show GFR in normal range. Blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and creatinine will not be raised above the normal range until 60% of total kidney function is lost. I had major kidney problems which showed up after supplementing with 100mg of elemental magnesium daily for a few months (for severe magnesium deficiency). My symptoms were numerous! and listed under kidney failure, acidosis, and hypermagnesemia.
Avatar f tn Uses litter box, but still urinating frequently and drinks fair amount of water. Is there a way to tell if she has kidney disease/failure and not pyelonephritis without doing an ultrasound?
Avatar n tn Why do you consider a kidney problem at this point? Kidney disease may present with altered mentation but only in its severe forms . Let’s start with your thyroid function test. Also, try to share your concerns with family and friends. You need to vent out your feelings and worries as this may also provide relief. In fact, this is therapy in itself. Eat well and sleep well. I will expect to hear more from you.
Avatar f tn Right now I am waiting to see a specialist on some Thyroid issues, goiter and nodules, etc... Any relation to kidney and thyroid issues?
Avatar n tn Some kidney diseases cause skin hyperpigmentation (dark patches) so I think you definitely need to see a specialist about this. I reckon that is the most likely explanation. Another possibility is Addisons disease. Apart from the skin thing, you get extremely tired and generally have symptoms similar to low thyroid. I would recommend that you ask to get your cortisol level measured to check this - if it is low, your doctor should order follow up tests.

Avatar m tn Hi, there are a few conditions that cause excessive thirst in a cat that's over 7 yrs old-diabetes, kidney disease, and thyroid disease. All 3 of these conditions will also cause weight loss. Kidney disease will cause vomiting. Both thyroid(over active thyroid) and diabetes will cause an excessive appetite. If you decide to take your cat to the vet, please request blood work and a urinalysis to check for these conditions.

541196 tn?1293552936 I had many of the same symptoms as you and some of the same problems. In the end, I was finally diagnosed with an autoimmune kidney disease. Mine is called IgM Messangiopathy. There are many different types and so the name doesn't really matter. I agree that you should have a 24 hour urine test to determine the amount of protein in your urine. Then, I would see a nephrologist. By the way, has your thyroid level been off lately also? My problem makes my thyroid worse.
Avatar m tn She has many other health problems, and probably doesn’t have a lot of time left, so we would like to make her as comfortable as possible. She has kidney disease, high BP, and a Thyroid problem, so she is on Benazepral, and Thyrosyn. She hasn’t been eating well, and pain may be part of the problem. But, the Tramadol tends to make her loose her appetite. Is there a med that I could ask my vet about that would be more effective, and help with her appetite? Thank you.

Avatar f tn I had a friend with graves disease...they shut her thyroid down and put her on synthroid and she is doing sooooo much better...you MUST do something about your problem...It's a very serious thing to just let it go.... I've had 6 surgerys in my life .... you will be fine .... if you don't do anything about it you will be in big trouble. Don't be afraid of surgery... Get yourself on the road to health.... NOW..
Avatar m tn Today my mother tested positive for thyroid disease and her endocroligist said because she has been on Entecavir which caused it. There is no history of Thyroid disease in our family and I would like to know if the endocroligist has any merit. If so would switching to TAF reverse the thyroid disease. My mother is 66 years old. She also has recently found extra tissue on the liver and after 12 years of Entecavir , I am starting to worry about this medication and its long term effects.
541196 tn?1293552936 blood in urine, there’s a possibility of the kidney disease. It needs to be assessed further with the help of CT scan, DMSA (nuclear medicine) scan etc. You might need tests like a biopsy of the kidney for the confirmation of the cause of blood & protein in urine. For the same, you need to consult a nephrologist. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care.
Avatar f tn Erythropoietin is usually indicated for treatment of anemia due to Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) in patients on dialysis and not on dialysis. Avatar f tn Hello, Itchy skin that isn't accompanied by other obvious skin changes, such as a rash, is most often caused by dry skin (xerosis). Skin conditions like psoriasis, dermatitis, eczema and hives, internal diseases like liver and kidney disorders, diabetes, iron deficiency anemia, irritation and allergic reactions to chemicals, wool, soaps, cosmetics and certain foods can cause itchy skin. One strong possibility is PCOS and thyroid disease for your wife’s symptoms.
Avatar f tn m a young woman not overweight non-drinker non-smoker I look completely normal and you would never think that I have already been diagnosed with heart disease.lung disease. thyroid disease. kidney disease. And whatever this terrible muscle pain is. They say that all this stuff is wrong with me but they don't want to put it all together and find out what the 1 cause is . Because it's not like I have all these things it has to be just one thing causing all these things.

Avatar n tn I would encourage both of you to talk with his endocrinologist about looking into possible changes that can bring his a1c levels well down below 7. That truly is his best protection not only against kidney disease, but against other complications. If sugar levels are maintained at near normal levels, damage cannot happen.
Avatar f tn I have a 14 year old cocker spaniel who was recently diagnosed with kidney disease. She originally got sick a few weeks ago with pacreatitis, and when she recovered her lab work showed the kidney problems. We have been giving her fluids every other night as well as the epakitin powder with her food. Her blood report was better this last time. However she seems pretty good, has a good appetite ect and I'm wondering if there is anything else that could be causing this disease?

I've went to my doctors and they took my bloods and all that came up was that my potassium levels were slightly high.
