I have some problems with joint and muscle pain along with "brain fog". Depression is also a huge problem. I have no drive or zest for life. I had some blood work done recently and the tests came back within "Normal" levels for tsh and t4. I have recent weight gain (15 pounds) in the last month or so. Hopefully not related to the holidays. Anyone have similar symptoms and have the tests come back normal?
I went to the Dr. the first of Novenber for Hip pain. I had heard that muscle and joint pain can come frome hypothyroid so I asked them to do more bloodwork. I was Hypothyroid according to the bloodwork so they started me on Synthroid. I had bloodwork done last week and they said it was normal and to just stay on my current dosage. I have been to 2 orthopedics since November for my hip musce and joint apin and it is no better.

Started on 150 and reduced to 137, not due to have more labs til mid March and for the last few days have severe muscle aches and joint pain with upper back pain. I have fibromyalgia but this is way different. Feels like 3 cases of the flu. Has anyone had similar symptoms?
After struggling for a year with muscle pain joint pain constipation, I somehow convinced my doc to increase dose and was taking 100mcg, my tsh was 0.01 and free t3 & t4 were with in the limits. Then I stopped my birth control pill. So probs started again. I was put on 1 grain armour for 3 months, it was hell. My monrning used to to pain free and evening it used to start paining through the night. constipation was worst. Then I convinced him to increase armour to 1.
g., lyme and viral illnesses), and connective tissue disorders (e.g., Sjogrens and Lupus). Does the pain improve at a certain point of the day (e.g., upon awakening or later in the day)? Do you have a rash or other findings? I recommend that you follow up with a primary care physician and perhaps a rheumatologist. You may need to have lab work including an ESR/CRP (to evaluate inflammation), ANA (to evaluate for connective tissue disorders), and metabolic workup.
HI SOON as I seen your thread I was anxious to respond. Iam on 2nd shot and the muscle and joint pain is horrific with me. I dont have any answers and need some answers too. My MD says its the toxins, the medicines. BUT the first shot was HEll.The ache and pain went through the joints so bad I almost went to ER. My MD gave me darvocet and for 2 days I had to take them causeThe hip was so bad I COULD NOT LAY DOWN FLAT. I could not sleep for 2 days. IT was so painful through joints.
Please post your most recent thyroid related blood tests, and their reference ranges. Some of us with muscle/joint pain find that we simply need to increase our dosage. If you have Hashimoto's (which causes thyroid inflammation), you will need to increase your medication, as the antibodies destroy healthy thyroid tissue. It's true that supplementing with magnesium can help relieve the pain; I find that adding calcium helps. Exercise also helps, even though it's hard, when we're in pain.
More so, I periodically take prescription pain medicine for my back (I have scoliosis) and the pain medicine also did not help my joint pain. My latest lab results came back fine and I have currently been on medication for Fibromyalgia. The pain is still very present and very painful and I am obviously more than frustrated and upset. I am 22 years old and I just want my normal, active life back.
I have had some trouble over the years with stiff joints in my hands, mostly in winter, but around four months ago I started getting real pain in my hands and fingers followed by them swelling, this then started in my feet and ankles, legs, knees, arms elbows and shoulders and seems to move from one place to the other on a 2-3 day basis, it sometimes even changes from being severe to the point of not being able to use my hands to just a slight pain and completely moved to, say a knee or a foot
Just a question about your earlier comment about my joint pain and stiffness...I am going to the endo today about my thyroid goiters..should I ask her about the EDS, my PCP, or my NS??
I do have rheumatoid artritis and some of your symptoms (jaw problems and joint pain) are somethings that I deal with. RA diagnoses is a very simple blood test and it maybe be worth checking out with your doctor. Again, I'm not a physician and am coming at this from my own personal experience. I wish you the very best and hope you get through this with a minimal expense and with positive results. Let us know how you are doing.
I really think something is really wrong with my thyroid . My thoat and glands are very swollen. my neck does not look or feel normal. I have pain that shoots down my left side of my thyroid. and hurts when i eat or drink. from what I read them are not good signs. I hope to get to see my doc soon then i will post my levels.
HI I have had more muscle and joint pain since being on synthroid than ever before. I am not sure what to make of it. Just to let you know that you are not alone with it and also to tell you that as I find out more, I will be in touch. I have found that stretching and heat help a lot. You may want to speak with a good physical therapist who might have insight into this.
Why is it that the majority of members did not start having Muscle, joint, hip, and lower back pain until after starting thyroid meds, Levo and Synthroid in particular, Doctors tell you the same old thing "Your pain is not caused by the medication" I really think a connection exists here.
Joint pain About 5 months ago, I developed uniform thigh muscle pain in both thighs. Blood work at the time was all negative. Then 2 months ago, the thigh muscle pain was now joined by overall joint pain, unusual skin sensations, like creepy crawlies. Also now i have fatigue.I was then diagnosed with Lyme disease, I took Doxycycline for 3 weeks but the symptoms have persisted. I have now been diagnosed with reactivated Epstein Barr Virus.
for not wanting to test for Lyme after you found a tick on him and discovered a rash and fever!?!? Good For You for insisting! My son's knee was in pain and inflammed and he had a fever. They thought he had fluid on the knee and did surgery to drain it. He went thru 4 days of different tests and the unnecessary surgery before they figured out it was Lyme. Thankfully he seems OK even though it was an advanced stage. He doesn't require follow-up.
couldn't wear shoes or socks, not even the sheet could touch them)....this was 5 years ago and the joint and muscle pain is daily and worsening...had many tests at the Neurologist to rule out nerve damage and now referred to the Rheumatoligist to see what he can find...I have had constant diarhea since the day of the surgery...so frustrated...I know getting my gallbladder removed was a medical necessity but my health has gone steadily downhill daily since the surgery....
This will help point you in the right direction in terms of laboratory testing (checking for diabetes, thyroid disease, vitamin deficiencies, electrolyte abnormalities, muscle proteins and breakdown products like CK enzymes and lactic acid. There are also metabolic derangements that can be checked for in which your muscles get weak with exercise because of their abnormal processing of oxygen and sugar.
major joints involved = knees, elbows, wrists, fingers, ankles, and hips) muscle pain and aches severe fatigue (no matter how much sleep/rest I get) muscle twitching (constant-all over my body, even my tongue!, usually stops when I move the muscle affected, but occasionally continues no matter what I do) Sometimes (recently mostly) my hands and occasionally feet have been falling asleep a lot--they get pins and needles feeling and my fingers come together.
I have been experiencing a joint pain in my right upper part of my leg below the pelvic bone when i walk. I was wondering should i take glucosamine 1500mg plus msm 1500? or Vitamin D?
Changes in thyroid levels (hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism) can cause joint and muscle pain. Usually it is not the medication unless you are sensitive or allergic to the medication or fillers in the meds.
