1202943 tn?1347840652 I have had dry itchy eyes, light sensitivity, and my eyes bulge slightly. I asked my doctor about the possibility that RAI could make my eyes worse. He said he thinks they will get better after treatment and if not I should see an eye specialist. Please help, I don't want this to get any worse!
Avatar f tn The TSH is a little low (too much thyroid hormone replacement), but not to the point I would expect thyroid-eye disease. Would test TSI and TBII - the immune system markers of Graves as the eye involvement can occur any time -- even after treatment (although the risk is much lower with surgery than after RAI). A careful eye check is appopriate.
Avatar f tn If I stay in bed with a cool mask and apply pressure to my eyes for 15 min. before I rise the swelling almost goes away completely and the mask usually ends up very wet from the fluid that comes out of my eyes. Besides the eye symptoms I have noticed that the skin on my lower lids no longer bounces back if I pinch it. It stays in place for several seconds before flattening out. It is difficult to put any type of undereye coverup on because the lid just stretches.
Avatar f tn what about the damage it does to your eyes? Will the damage continue?
785188 tn?1279928405 Strage thing is that my eyes stayed bulged (slightly) for the last 15yrs, I did not start having the pain and swelling behind the eye until this past May 09. My eyes are very puffy in the morning, with dark circles, one eye is worse than the other and I will eventually need eye surgery to correct. But for now, the eye onimnet (Over the counter) and eye drops are helping. Have you tried those things? I don't know if it relieves the swelling, but it helps my pain.
Avatar f tn , if the thyroid is responding to the meds, but the eyes are still bulging, is it necessary to remove the thyroid before surgery of the eyes can be done? Is there anything that can be done for bulging eyes besides surgery?
Avatar n tn I did have Iritis (inflamation of iris) 5 years ago so they treated my complaint seriously and the eye specialist took a look but all is good. I think dry eyes are related to Thyroid as we all have it in our family, my mother the ony one with itchy eyes she has no thyroid, she had Graves now she is Hypothryroid. I use Refresh Liquigel by Allergen probably an Australian product. Tell your doctor to give you something rather then suffer.
Avatar n tn I don't think it's in your head! You might want to look into a Internal Medicine doctor they deal with thyroid issues a lot! I had to go to one for a long time because I had a qoiter on my thyroid and that and I was so young when they found it. But Thyroid is really strange it can make you depressed, your nail can break, your hair can fall out. I am not a doctor or nurse but been in this game a long time! I would go to someone who specialist in it!
1201433 tn?1328997637 I guess it is discoloration around my eyes, almost brown in apperance, this seems to be clearing up , I had cream from the rash I had in the begining, so I was very careful not to get in my eyes, this is helping, Now if I can keep from biting my cuticles, they keep getting infected, bad habit. You are very knowlegeable, you should have been a doctor!
1201433 tn?1328997637 In order to really be in control of your treatment, you should ask for a copy of the lab report; in the US, your doctor is required to give you one if you ask for it. In addition, it's never enough to test only TSH levels; this can be very deceiving and any doctor who does this, will keep you ill much longer than necessary. You need to have your Free T3 and Free T4 levels tested as well.
Avatar f tn I recently underwent radioactive iodine treament and have now been toying with various thyroid medicines. I have tried the generic levothyroxine and now i am on the brand synthroid. my eyes seem to be swelling in a circle around my actual eye ball and i am curious if this is an allergic reaction to the synthetics in the medicines. if so what should i do?? thanks.
Avatar m tn Also, I have had a problem with the skin in between my eyes at the top of the nose... sort of near the eye brows, just below them... kind of in the corner by the nose area. This has been red for a really long time.. sometimes I put hydrocordizone on it and it keeps it under control.... but it never goes away. If anyone has ever heard of these issues and could offer some help, I would be very grateful. Thanks!
Avatar f tn I was blaming my fibromyalgia for my eyes hurting. I went to eye doctor and he informed me that my "eyes are a mess". He said my eyes were not producing tears and the surface of my eyes have all kinds of micro-abrasions. Has anyone out there had this problem?
458072 tn?1291415186 My experience with Graves (aka thyroid) eye disease was excessive tearing and a gritty feeling (like sandpaper) in the eyes at the beginning. I really thought it was allergies, my eyes watered so much. It got much better when I started using "natural tears" - not the stuff that is used to get the red out. I hope for your sake your eye problem is something else - thyroid eye disease is something I wouldn't wish on my worse enemy.
567677 tn?1246767776 yes TSH T3 T4 I have Grave's Disease but have no thyroid. I have the bulging eyes and all that stuff. I have all levels listed on my tracker.
Avatar f tn d been referred to an ENT for a scan on my thyroid. That came back ok too, although the consultant said the thyroid itself looked bulky. I was told it was quite normal for it to have been so. I had an MRI done on my head and neck and that came back fine as well. On the follow-up I've just been to - which was today - the consultant asked me how I've been and I've said near enough the same. And that was true.
1855970 tn?1325823613 Doc said it was attacking the nerves in the back of my eyes. Shouldnt cause blindness but over the years my eye may bulge. My eyelids are drooping too. But I also have diabetes, thyroid, autoimmune disorder, and fibromyalgia. Definately see an opthamologist.
Avatar n tn Personally I would not recommend using hydrocortisone cream near your eyes. The skin around the eyes is already thin and hydrocortisone creams thin the skin so care needs to be taken when using this type of cream. It appears that you may have an allergic reaction to something. I would suggest you see your doctor for a correct diagnosis and for him to prescribe the appropriate medication for you. In the meantime do not use any make ups or eye make up.
Avatar m tn People can feel well outside the optimal range but the chances of feeling well become more remote the further we get from the optimal zone. Note that laboratory techniques for these tests vary and lab values may have a 5-10% margin of error depending on the laboratory used. Test Lab Low Optimal Range Lab High TSH 0.5 1.3-1.8 5.0 Free T4 0.8 1.2-1.3 1.8 Free T3 203 320-330 420 Free T3* 2.3 3.2-3.3 4.2 *Some labs divide FT3 results by 100 thus 230 is the same as 2.3, etc.
Avatar f tn Thyroid-stimulating immunoglobulin is another antibody that can stimulates the thyroid gland to produce more thyroid hormone, bind to the eyes (thyroid eye disease) and under the skin - typically on the shins (pretibal myxedema). Removing the thyroid gland does not mean you will prevent or reverse thyroid eye disease or pretibal myxedema.
1625203 tn?1301081672 The Majority of my problems comes with the lack of sleep & food. I have a serious case of IBS so food is poison to me, I tend to avoid it at all cost witch can not be healthy either but the other option just isn't worth it most of the time. I am so crabby & snippy (complete 180 from the previous personality traits I carried) these moods swings are primarily due to the fatigue & hunger I am only assuming. My eyes are constantly dry which makes my seeing anything miserable!
Avatar f tn One week later, my eyes became extremely puffy and red with almost a yellowish tint in the whites of my eyes. My face/cheeks are also extremely swollen and puffy to the point where I look like a completely different person. This past week I've developed a sore neck and throat. I went to the doctor to test for my thyroid and the results came back as "normal" however, they were in the lower end of normal.
Avatar n tn TED seems to be common with those predisposed to the disease. Not everyone gets TED but when you do, RAI seems to expedite it's appearance and or symptoms. I have had it for a year now. ATD's didn't help me with they hyper-thyroid so June this year I had RAI, then had to have it again late Sept. I have been on high dose of prednisone ( steroid) which seems to have helped keep it from getting worse up until a week ago.
Avatar f tn My weight has pretty much regulated to around 157 which means I lost close to 40 pounds. And my eyes have sunken in extreme amount. I had one person say maybe I should get my thyroid checked. I am pleased with the weight lost just odd that I eat way more then I did before reaching svr. Also wanted to let everyone know since I had all the procedures done on my back I am somewhat more active. I can actually stand on my toes again and walk normal instead of flat footed.
Avatar n tn t want to pay for the extra portion of the T# test) But if you are in the US and pay your costs I cannot see any motive for the refusal. Where are you located?
