5285867 tn?1365993292 I have never had so much trouble with my thyroid. I am not taking pills tomorrow. I will call the doctor monday. I heard that taking thyroid pills is better at night. Any ideas what could be going on.
Avatar n tn Generic forms are Levothyroxine sodium USP and L-thyroxine. There is still debate over whether generic thyroid supplements are as effective as thyroid brand name supplements.
Monster Hi, I have been on seasonique (generic) for over a year now. Ever since that time my body has gone down hill with a lot of things such as skin problems, nail problems, hair dryness, no libido. I was wondering if it could be the seasonique doing it?
Avatar f tn When I found out I had thyroid trouble in early 2004, I took generic T4 pills because my doctor had told me that there was no difference between brand name pills and generic pills, other than the higher price for brand name pills. However, my blood test scores bounced up and down like mountains and valleys. Then I read that we can't take generics because they're all made according to different recipes. Well, that explained the peaks and valleys in my blood tests.
Avatar f tn I can’t take sleeping pills every day. I was recommended to try the generic of Synthroid even though the fillers can change it anytime but was going to go with Cvs because they seem to be the best when it comes to generic. Synthroid was too strong for me and I don’t want the same reaction from the generic, I just can’t win this battle it seems. Thank you for reading regardless.
Avatar f tn Well....straight from Armour Thyroid....NP Thyroid is NOT a generic of Armour, although pharmacists think it is! I was told by Armour's pharmacist that there is NO generic for Armour...just FYI. When I tried to locate it here in Ohio, initially the pharms couldnt find it, I kept saying Acella....finally they looked under NP thyroid or just thyroid, manufactured by Acella, and there it was.....
907968 tn?1292622204 if you google generic thyroid meds improved usp you will see that generics are now improved just recently. i have to take generic meds because im in an hmo and have been doing well- although my dr was nice to sample me with synthroid she really did me no favors when i ended up having to switch to generics due to my insurance.
Avatar f tn Hello, I am 61 year old male in pretty good health. I was just (2 months) diagnosed with Hashimoto's disease by my new doctor during a comprehensive physical. He is highly regarded which is why I switched from prior doc. Hypothyroidism does not run in my family history. He prescribed 25mcg Synthroid & insisted I avoid the generic. Follow up test still showed no change in TS level so he increased dose to 50 w follow up in 3 mos. Cigna's drug service sent generic levothyroxine.
Avatar n tn Your best bet is to call the pharmacy or Dr to see if it is generic. It apparently makes a huge difference. The generic pills have fillers in them and varying doses of the thyroid hormone.3 different thyroid/endocrine socities recomend brand name.It is also recomended to take your thyroid pill in am with a glass of water(not sure why) and to wait at least a hour before eating.Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn Still expericing severe lack of energy and hair loss, emotional swings, not tolerating stress well but each day gets a little better( but not as fast as I would like).I had no idea generic thyroid pills could be so bad. Please everyone check your thyroid meds because if I can help someone avoid what I have been through the past 2 mo it would be worth it.I would love to hear from anyone about their experiences following tt of generic pills.

Avatar f tn Don't have to have experienced it to know that what you are going through is unusual and an extreme reaction. What is the generic that you were given? It is true that it takes 6 weeks for a T4 med to build up to full effect on blood levels, and similarly that long to fully dissipate. However, I cannot imagine that you are getting that reaction from the T4.
Avatar n tn Thyroxine is the thyroid hormone T4. Levothyroxine is the generic name of T4 meds of which there are numerous brands, including the following. Each of these brands contain thyroxine, but differ in the filler material used in manufacture of the pills.
Avatar f tn Hi Ray....I agree w/ed34. Warfarin is generic for Coumadin. Since it is the generic for brand Coumadin it is given in same dose. Mom took Warfarin for the 1st three months after her event. Month four, the pharmacy was temporarily out so I took brand name Coumadin (more$$, of course ;-) but it was the exact same dose. Month five, she was back on Warfarin. Best to you...
Avatar f tn Thyroid hormone is made in the thyroid. Thyroid hormone is an essential hormone, and almost every cell on the body has a receptor for thyroid hormone. It regulates many different systems in the body. If you have no thyroid (I don't have one either), you have to take supplemental thyroid hormone, either T4 or T3. There is no "homeopathic" version that will help you unless it contains one of those two chemicals, at a dosage close to your current dose.
Avatar n tn t have anything wrong with my thyroid. Can the medicine hurt my thyroid? Will it cause my thyroid to not function properly? What are the consequences of this medicine if you do not have a thyroid condition but was still given the drug?
1549937 tn?1300220335 I was sick last September through last Fall with low Thyroid symptoms and put on 50 mcg generic Synthroid - I had fatigue, was sleepy, blurred vision, low blood pressure, sore leg muscles, low back pain.... Because of some confusion with one of my doctors, which is too long to go into, I was taken off the medication. The doctor said to see in 4 weeks how my labs were, to see if I should go back on the medication again. Within 10 days - I started feeling lousy again.....
7991152 tn?1396061810 I have been on thyroid hormone for 45 yrs. I switched to a generic; levoxyl once for about 2 yrs and never want to do that again. I didn't attribute it to the switch because me loosing my mind didn't happen immediately. I couldn't understand what was wrong, I felt like my mind was not there, not me, crazy. Then read in a pill book that levoxyl had difference dosages of ingredients then Synthroid did. I remember there being significant differences.
Avatar f tn I have been on birth control for 6-7 years, about a month or 2 ago i was switched from ortho lo to a generic (tri-previfem), I have been having issues with weight gain and bloating. Could this be caused by the birth control? I exercise daily and still have problems with losing weight. I dont know what to do?
519725 tn?1211997846 Hi, newbie here. I was diagnosed with hypo almost 2 years ago. I was taking .88mcg of generic Levothyroxine daily. I noticed that my stomach was a little upset in the mornings but it wasn't too bad. Then, about 2 months ago, I signed up for on-line perscriptions (so I wouldn't have to go to walgreens every month). Somehow, my doctor's office perscribed me L-Thryoxine (synthoid) and I didn't notice it until just recently.
Avatar n tn I had been on generic Levothyroxine for a while, went from 25 mil to 50 then 75, then 100's This all prescribed by a GP that even stated my Thyroid was not enlarged, I started to tell him that the Society of Endocrinology had set new standards for the THS, from what they deemed normal around 5.0 was now 3.
Avatar f tn My endocrinologist told me that using generic thyroid medications was dangerous, and to Never use it. Especially for me since I have had a total thyroidectomy and need a higher dose of hormone. He said that each pharmacy uses different companies, at different times, who uses different ingredients. He said some even have additives such as antifreeze. THis may be a far fetch but I don't wanna take the chance.
Avatar m tn s true that different manufacturers use different fillers (these are used by both brand and generic manufacturers) and some people are sensitive to them. Often, switching brands or from generic to a brand name or brand name to generic can make a world of difference. You can take your meds any time that works best for you. The rule of thumb, though, is also that you should not have had anything to eat or drink for 3-4 hours prior to taking meds, i.e. your stomach is empty.
Avatar n tn Hey everyone, I just found out that my insurance will no longer cover my Armour Thyroid due to a packaging change.....I've taken synthroid and the generic version of armour and didn't feel anybetter. I can no longer afford armour, so is there any suggestions on what i can talk to my doctor about switching me on????
Avatar f tn I recently lost weight from 175 pounds to 125 , I used to take 88mcgs of generic thyroid meds, but now I can hardly take 25 per day , I am over 50 and have no thyroid, I am currently very hypo due to the side effects of a name brand thyroid med I had to get off of , my doctors started yelling at me and demanding that I take at least 50 mcg per day, but the meds gave me anxiety , insomnia, mania, could not eat , I felt as if I were going crazy.
Avatar f tn Some people do have reactions or allergic sensitivities to the fillers used in the medication pills. You say generic Thyroid so I will assume it is a straight T4 medication like Levo or synthroyid or other makers. Each manufactures use different fillers and thus some people are sensitive to those. So simply switching brands can help those people. Also there is a liquid cap T4 medication that uses no fillers. This is generally goes by the name Triosint.
Avatar n tn 00 at walmar for just 30 pills, the website for syntroid ofers cupons but you can only used them when you buy 3 months of medicine and if you dont have insurance,, another thing be careful of generic brands specially for thyroid medicine you might get a better deal money wise but you might get to feel worse I have read here many times not to go with the generic got to do with their formula not being a constant, any way hope this help you have a great weekend!
