Avatar n tn Generic forms are Levothyroxine sodium USP and L-thyroxine. There is still debate over whether generic thyroid supplements are as effective as thyroid brand name supplements.
Avatar n tn Anyone take generic Topamax for migraine prevention? Please share your review if you do. I'm about to start it but am apprehensive as all I've read in researching is it's got a high side affect profile.
798555 tn?1292787551 Was taking a generic dessicated Thyroid, now switching to Nature Throid. This generic was 65 mg per grain like Nature Throid, both have the same T4 and T3 amount per grain as old Armour. The extra 5mg must be non-active fillers ect, means nothing really. For any of you that switched, did you take the same amount of grains per day if taken with water? I take 2.5 grains two days and 2 grains the other 5 day per week of the generic.
139126 tn?1255036991 4 weeks post op for thyroidectomy. Started with 3 weeks of 88 mcg of levothyroxine which was prescribed by my surgeon. My endo switched me to 88 mcg of name brand Synthroid because he is not comfortable with the potential variations in the generic meds and I'm sensitive to medications. Been taking it for 3 days now and for each of the 3 days I've had some shakiness between 4 and 6 hours after taking the pill. Did not have that happen with the generic.
Avatar f tn The regular price of thyroid medication is very inexpensive. Top is $27. There are coupons available. You need you meds.
907968 tn?1292622204 if you google generic thyroid meds improved usp you will see that generics are now improved just recently. i have to take generic meds because im in an hmo and have been doing well- although my dr was nice to sample me with synthroid she really did me no favors when i ended up having to switch to generics due to my insurance.
Avatar f tn Synthroid is a T4 only med. NatureThroid is a T4/T3 combo and sometimes they are rx'd together, but not often. What are your current thyroid hormone levels? You should be getting tested for TSH, Free T3 and Free T4. Please post your results, along with the reference ranges, as these vary from lab to lab so must come from your own report. What dosage of each medication did your doctor rx?
649848 tn?1534633700 Why does my weight tracker come up when I click on the Thyroid Tracker? Can we get the thyroid medication list updated to include a wider variety of meds? The ones I take aren't/weren't even listed.
Avatar f tn When I was switched from Cytomel to the generic I had a gradual deterioration of my previously good state and had symptoms of hyperthyroidism (dizzyness, heart palpitations, anxiety, joint pain) even though the dosage remained the same. My prescription was 75 mcg. T4 and 25 mcg.T3. I made sure that the generic was from Mylan labs every time. My doctor cut the T3 dosage in half and I crashed...severe depression, edema and 15 lb. weight gain in 3 weeks, visual and cognitive problems.
980017 tn?1248521531 t had any problems with obsorbtion. I have been on meds for thyroid for 20 yrs. Unfort. the doc who did my surgery is not a Doctor any more. As far as I know I am not lactos intolerent. My spelling is aweful, sorry. You all have given me some things to bring up to my family Doc.
Avatar f tn Hi. I am getting ready to start the generic (levo something ..forget the name) of Synthroid and am wondering what to expect...I am only taking a small dosage (1/2 of .25 mcg a day). Does it make you sleepy or give you more energy? Thank you!!!
Avatar f tn Like you, I am unconvinced that brand name thyroid meds are any better than generics. I was on generic for over a year when my PCP was treating me. When I started seeing an endo who had a bias against generic, he switched me to the same dose of a brand name, and my labs acually got worse in the following six weeks. However, I choose my battles carefully, and I gave this one to my endo.
Avatar n tn t have anything wrong with my thyroid. Can the medicine hurt my thyroid? Will it cause my thyroid to not function properly? What are the consequences of this medicine if you do not have a thyroid condition but was still given the drug?
Avatar n tn I had AI reactions to avicel/cellulose and propylene glycol (poisonous) fillers in the premade thyroid meds. Once I changed to a natural T3/T4 thyroid compound with a small amount of sucrose-only as the filler (in a veggie cap) I do great. (Plus my LDN with a sucrose filler is amazing for me). Just my own experience.
889468 tn?1241567623 About 6 weeks ago I switched from armour to thyroid usp(generic for armour because i was having problems with the fillers in the name brand. Im on 75 grain and a week after the switch I started having heart palps short of breath, muscle aches really bad cramping in my feet. I started feeling hyper the last few days went and did labs but only a t4 (total) and it was a 6.
Avatar m tn Brand name thyroid meds are more consistant in the dose. That is, they really do have the actual anount of active ingredient that it says it has. (ie. 100 mcg-100 mcg) Sounds obvious, but generics can differ by as much as 25% in active ingredient and the FDA is ok with that! (ie.
Avatar n tn Do you take a brand name replacement such as Synthroid or Levothroid? If you take a generic, your pharmacy can switch generic brands and all generics aren't alike. If you do take a generic, you may want to get your doctor to prescribe a brand name so your dose will remain consistent. If you do take a brand name, another possibility for requiring a dose change is recent weight gain or loss. Good luck to you!
Avatar n tn which appears to be normal at .99--the other test result was the TSH at 6.67--i have been taking thyroid meds (for hypo) since 1991--18 yrs-- over the yrs, i have had increases in dosage. Approximately 2 yrs ago, doc stated my TSH was on the low side so he had me start skipping one day a week of meds--i take generic synthroid 6 days a week instead of 7@150 mcg.
Avatar n tn you can google --the difference between brand name and generic thyroid meds ard you will read about the tne percent difference either way. im not paying fourty dollars a month for the rest of my life when i can get it free so i had alot of motivation to make it work-- and it did.
Avatar n tn by the way...supposedly brand name thyroid meds are better because of consistency of dose. this is what i've heard. but, whatever works for you! everyone's different.
Avatar n tn I had no changes in diet, medication, supplements or method of taking my meds. I feel strongly the generic medication is the culprit. I contacted the manufactuer and will be sending the remainder of my prescription to them for testing. Is there a way to test the medication independent of the drug company?
5285867 tn?1365993292 I was using levothyroxine but i was fluctuation way to much with thyroid issues. I really do believe that it was generic. Any suggestions. I really want my life back.
