Avatar f tn I have been gaining weight over the past 8years. I cannot seem to lose weight no matter what I try.I have done all the diets only to lose 5lbs and gain10lbs..Extremely tired all the time. I am 5ft 175lbs and 54 years of age. I do not want to be on any prescription medicine. I just lost my baby sister to breast and brain cancer and she too was hypothyroid . Is there any other alternative?
1426120 tn?1283039272 Certain medications like antidepressants cause weight gain. Polycystic ovary too causes weight gain, hence has to be ruled out by an ultrasound of abdomen. If the above causes are eliminated then you can join a weight trainer and a nutrition expert and follow their advice and lose weight under their guidance. Hope this helps. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar m tn It's not normal to gain that much weight in so short a time, even if you're gorging yourself on food. My first recommendation is make a visit to your primary care physician to run some simple blood tests to make sure your thyroid is functioning properly of if you may have developed hypothyroidism, which is an under active thyroid. Hypothyroidism is the main cause of sudden, excessive weight gain.
199954 tn?1294944669 s the first area/section I would head. Now after thyroid I head straight for the sweets/desserts. Flower puts weight on me so I watch the pies, cakes, cookies or even non-sweet items made with flower. Candy does not put weight on me and do I love chocolates. I could go on and on and on about diet and weight, however I am not over at the diet or weight forums.

199954 tn?1294944669 I assume you meant one tablet 5x/week (not day). There are some people with weight gain with thyroid replacement - but most weight gain is (unfortunately) lifestyle. It is important to make sure the TSH in target range -- which may be 0.2-0.5 depending on the risk of your thyroid cancer.

I have not taken any medication for my graves because of fear of gaining weight , Please can you answer why my weight has increased without any meds???? the doc prescribed me to Carbimizole. If i take carbimizole will i lose the weight. Im so confused!!!!
Avatar n tn I am only addressing the thyroid levels. Which states you are hyperthyroid and T-3 toxicosis which is seen in Graves' disease. This could be the reason for your fatigue and possibly weight gain. Not all hypers lose weight. The solution for thyroid is to get treatment for the hyper side of the disease. Either RAI or ATDs. Surgery is an option with growing, hyperfunctioning nodule or thyroid cancer, which would entail more test to verify.
Avatar n tn Being hypothyroid did make it more difficult to lose weight but the amount of weight I gained was from lifestyle. So,Can it be said my weight gain is not all thyroid related?I was able to do more than I did but I just eased into the lazier lifestyle because I didn't feel well.It became habit so that when I did feel ok,I still expended minimal energy. Also, what's better to do when you're home watching televison? EAT! This hypothyroidism is a catch 22 it seems!
