Avatar m tn I took Acetyl L-Cartinine for a long time not realising it can impact on your thyroid. Do your adrenals have to be completely stabilised before treating thyroid? Maybe thyroid is more of a problem than I thought.
Avatar f tn My doctor does listen to me. The last reading on my thyroid level was 16.9 down from 59.7, so we are making progress. However, I think I need more. Apparently 200 mcg of Synthroid is a large dose, have you heard of higher doses this early in the game? I am starting to make some improvements, like I was able to go to the gym, but had puny work outs and can fall asleep at 8pm, and I sleep horribly. I see the doctor on the 22nd of this month after more bloodwork. Glad to see I am not alone.
Avatar n tn I asked what that meant, and he said that it indicated that I might develop thyroid problems in the future. I did not quite understand that remark, as I thought I already had this problem, I certainly have many of the physical symptons, and surely that is why I have started thyroxine. This forum is very good and informative. Thanks to all who contribute.
231441 tn?1333892766 Also it is the reason most of us find it better to split our doses of T3 med and take half in the morning and half in the early afternoon. This practice evens out the effect over the whole day and avoids the late afternoon letdown. You might want to take your afternoon dose a bit earlier than you mentioned, in order to avoid any adverse effect on sleeping.
1646889 tn?1301481228 I have been on Armour for a couple of years now and still am having challenges with dosing, as I am in finding a Dr. that truly understands Armour. I was taking 30 mg in morning 7am an hour prior to food, and taking 30 mg at 11 am hour before food. I am extremely sensitive to the spikes (which don't bother me) and the crash (which is a problem). Even with my dosing schedule, I begin functioning at a very low level around 5-6pm.
Avatar f tn I guess your doctor is not inclined to give you an increase in thyroid replacement hormone, because your TSH is normal? By all means, find another doctor.
Avatar f tn Determining a dosage of tramadol for dogs is an exercise in futility. As with people, if the dog has a history of seizures it is important to let your vet know this, and they will likely tell you about alternatives. While the dosage amounts vary from dog to dog, the tramadol dosage for dogs can be put into effect by using the dog’s weight as the determinant. The usual range is .5 - 1.8mg per pound.
Avatar n tn I can only imagine the frustration of dealing with a diurectic in a pet, but your veterinarian obviously thought the medication was needed at that dosing level. You can, though, post this question in the Ask A Vet Expert forum and get some opinions from veterinarians across the country. They would be able to help guide you with information you can share with your veterinarian at home and questions that you might ask your veterinarian. Good luck with your sick little one!
Avatar f tn Your dosing schedule IMHO is not consistent with a normal body. A normal body has the highest levels in the morning with a decrease in the afternoon declining to near nothing by midnight. This cycle repeats daily. Did you have a stim test, and abnormal sodium levels?
Avatar n tn Human grade fish oil supplements are made from exactly the same ingredients (usually!) as the ones for dogs. But check ingredients to make sure there is nothing in there that shouldn't be, and can harm dogs....such as xylitol etc. Pure fish oil is okay. But keep the capsules or bottle of oil out of the light, preferably in the refrigerator to prevent rancidity/free radicals, etc. There is some information, and information about dosages here: http://csu-cvmbs.colostate.
Avatar n tn Hi, After 6 months of not getting anywhere with my PCP, I finally got a referral to a Naturopath, who did many more tests than my PCP sis. Long story short, my B-12, Ferritin and DHEA levels were low. My FREE T3 and T4 were normal, as was my previous TSH. However, based on my symptomology - especially my low blood pressure and low body temperature - he has started me on Armour (as well as supplements of B-12, Iron and DHEA).
Avatar f tn If you can take your med, immediately, when you get up, you'd be okay to eat breakfast within 30-45 minutes.... I used to have to do this when I was working, otherwise I'd have had to get up an hour earlier than my normal 3:30 am - wasn't willing to do that...... I hopped out of bed, took my levo, then went to the kitchen to turn on the coffee pot, feed the dogs and put them outside, then go get into the shower......
Avatar n tn I too believe in teh holestic vets and I am now feeding my dogs Natural Balance because it has a few things in there that are supose to be good for dogs with hypothyroid. One of my dogs that has this condtion started having seizures.... this i sunder control right now. When the blood work is done, make sure to get a clear copy of it for your self so you can look up things for yourself.
Avatar n tn As for itching they can have antihistamines WITHOUT DECONGESTANTS in them. Ask you vet for dosing on any over the counter one such as benadryl (diphenhydramine) or Tavist (clemastine) or Chlortrimeton (chlorpheniramine) BUT most important get your pup on oral antibiotics and antifungals along with a good topical ear med like otomax or for really bad yeast clotrimazole drops. Also try cleansing the ear with a mixture of Domeboro solution.
Avatar f tn Several studies have looked at T3 dosing and have not found that appropriate cytomel dosing in combo with levothyroxine offers any benefit. That being said, I have a rare handful of patients who have truly done better with 5mcg of cytomel 2x/day in addition to their T4 -- but this seems to be the exception, not the rule.
Avatar m tn The TSH often remains low for several months - so following T4 and T3 resoponse to anti-thyroid therapy is the key -- in your case, with normal levels, would consider re-challenging w/ carbimazole at lower dose (we use methimazole in the states and 10-15mg/day dosing is usually adequate and has less side effects). PTU is less favorable due to increase incidence of hepatoxicity, and bid-tid dosing.
605458 tn?1539228808 I know they like to use once a day dosing with dogs, mostly for owner compliance. Its easier to remember, easier on the dog, and easier on the pocketbook, too! Are you checking his blood sugar? What kind of diet is he on? I don't know a lot about diabetic dogs, but the subject really interests me.
Avatar f tn Well, Pedigree is not a very good food. You might try Pro Plan salmon food. Is he on thyroid meds? It might be a good idea to have a T-3, T-4 rerun. Bathing once a week seems like a lot. Bathing too often can actually strip the natural oils. Try a mild oatmeal shampoo. If this has been going on for a while, getting a skin scraping don may be a good idea.
Avatar f tn Thanks for the split dose information. I am learning a lot on this site. Last lab results over the phone. I pulled the range for FT3 from earlier printout/ same lab but no FT4 info on that printout. Labs after approx. three months on NT (1 grain) only - switched from synthroid .088. FT4 = 0.91 "low on spectrum" told over the phone FT3= 3.8 (2.3-4.2) but labs taken early in the morning which may matter? (up from 2.
