1286779 tn?1400012806 Make sure that you are on thyroid replacement therapy of some kind from your doctor first, since inactive thyroid can cause many more serious medical problems than weight (high cholesterol, slow heartbeat, heart failure). Make sure your diet contains many basic foods (lowfat milk, fruits, vegetables, lean meats, enriched grains).
Avatar m tn I follow a strict diet and exercise program and over a six month period the weight is moving but very slowly. So i was wondering if my possible MS may have affected my thyroid or metabolic rate? I used to loose weight without too much effort, now its almost impossible. I guess it could always be down to being middle aged though. I am currently waiting for my first MRI appointment, so i am not DX as yet. I have tested neg for diabetes. Any advice welcome.
Avatar n tn If so, what type and what dosage? Please post your thyroid related test results and their reference ranges so that members can try to assess the adequacy of your testing and treatment.
Avatar n tn I was doing really really well on .137 mcg of synthroid and 50 mcg of cytomel and my dr. took me down to 25mcg on cytomel. So I stopped taking all of the meds about 2 months ago. Will the portion of my thyroid that wasn't removed begin working again? Will I have more weight gain without meds, or will it go to hyperthyroid? Or will I have more weight gain or less on the smaller dosage?
20914619 tn?1637171288 m doubting you suddenly got a thyroid issue, and even if you did, not everyone with a thyroid issue gains a lot of weight. Some do, some don't, but we do know antidepressants have this as a very common side effect. You should probably see your psychiatrist and discuss alternatives because not every med will do this to you.

Avatar f tn But I am not, I am still cold, gaining weight if I don’t watch what I eat and exercise, moody as heck and tired during the day. The only thing that is changes is that I am finally sleeping through the night?????? My doctor is confused, he said I should be hyperthyroidism and not hypo…..and thoughts?
Avatar f tn About 2 years ago, I noticed that my thin, fine, straight hair had lots of short hairs that looked broken all the way from the root to tip (mainly on the top layer. It has also become much drier). I mentioned this to the doctor who did a thyroid test and said my results were 3.65 and didn't warrant any treatment. In addition to this I also have lichen sclerosus which is an autoimmune condition, suffer with outrageously bad chilblains and have put on a few pounds in weight.
Avatar f tn Insulin resistance and PCOS can also cause weight gain/inability to lose and should checked out, also. Either/both of these can cause similar symptoms as hypothyroidism.
Avatar n tn itchy skin, course hair, no energy, weight gain ,hypertension I have problems sleeping.. My cholorestrol is 177. A few years ago I lost 10-15 pounds without trying. I have gained weight constantly for the last 3 months. What special can I have done and what type of doctor do I need to see. Do you know about a supplement ADK? My friend who has a thyroid problem had a special test and is now on this supplement. She feels much better is losing weight.
Avatar n tn ) I exhibit some but not all of the symptoms that are typically associated with being hypo and some of the symptoms i exhibit are oddly hyper-thyroid-ish. I did not lose weight when taking my thyroid medicine, as some might expect. In my case my thyroid levels are fluctuating a lot due to an autoimmune issue, so while one would assume that if there is a weight correlation between thyroid productivity, that my weight would also go up and down as my hormone levels change, but, it does not.
Avatar f tn Okay I am 15 years old and I was diagnosed a little over 2 years ago with insulin resistence syndrome. How I found out that I had this was that I stopped my period for a year and plus I was about 100 pounds over weight according to BMI. So far I have lost 45 pounds but now I have stopped losing weight I have made major life style changes and I have been to several drs but I can't lost it anymore.
Avatar f tn I recently started having issues with dizziness, hair loss, weight gain, and extreme fatigue. I went to a chiropractor and he was doing an MRI for my neck and an abnormality showed up on my thyroid. It said Incidental note is made of a 1.4 cm left thyroid nodule. IMPRESSION: Unremarkable MRI of the cervical spine. Incidental note is made of a 1.4 cm left thyroid nodule, and correlation with thyroid sonography if not already performed.
Avatar n tn Do you know if it is safe for someone with Thyroid problems to go on the Suddenly Slim diet -- they claim their pills to be all natural
Avatar f tn t take my weight gain seriously. My thyroid levels are still pretty off and I also have psych problems.......I have had an eating disorder in the past and could not cope with the weight gain, so I was taking too much of my thyroid medication in hopes of lowering the number on the scale.

Avatar n tn Oz as the possible fountain of youth, then saw it on the news...so figured I try it. Took it not two months. Began having throat problems and went to doctor who has referred me to specialist for thyroid. I go today.I will tell him.
Avatar f tn Perhaps someone can help me. i'm taking eltroxin, dose 0.15. i've been taking it for four years. i'm 20 years old and since i was diagnosed, i picked up 40lbs in the first year and since then i cannot lose the weight at all and its not my diet because i don't put weight on. its driving me mad! any ideas??
497349 tn?1209796251 YES! Just today actually! I can't believe I just saw your post, as I almost couldn't believe the other girls story this morning. The lady that owns the local health food store I go to, saw me looking at the adrenal supplements, and started talking to me about this. She said after her pregnancy, she thought it was some post-partum depression, she thought she was having a nervous breakdown. Someone told her to try this chiropractor. Sure enough, same thing...
Avatar f tn Instead, I have found myself working with a more holistic type doctor who handles hormones, thyroid issues and adrenal issues as well as chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia. He is also a PCP doctor, so he takes my insurance. I also see my Rheumatologist as well to make sure I have the specialist managing everything because I am on a Intermittent FMLA leave from work.
Avatar n tn , Some of the symptoms you stated are thyroid symptoms, such as Insomnia, fatigue/Energy Loss, Muscle Joint pain, stiff, achy neck, Depression, weight gain , Anxiety and dry skin. The others you mentioned could be side affects of the Anxiety medication you are taking are symptoms of Diabetes, those are Frequent Urination and Odor It is difficult to advise or give opinions without lab results and the ranges provided with each result.
Avatar n tn My 15 pound mixed Chi has been showing signs of hypo-thyroid, weight gain and increased agressive behavior. Is it absolutely necessary for her to see the vet to get the correct dosage for her? I am retired and on a very limited budget, they get their shots, flea and heart worm meds, but another visit to the vet will absolutely break me! Any ideas?
Avatar f tn re gaining weight, in spite of a healthy diet and adequate exercise, you should talk to your doctor about getting some simple blood tests to determine whether or not you have hypothyroidism (under active thyroid). The thyroid controls metabolism, body temperature, heart rate and other important body functions; if the thyroid isn't producing enough hormones, your body functions will slow down. The tests you need are Free T3, Free T4 and TSH.
Avatar f tn I don't want to be discouraging, but think about it this way: if you're only running say two miles, three days a week, you are only burning an extra 600 calories a week. You have to burn 3500 extra calories to lose a pound, so it would take you six weeks to lose one pound by simply running two miles, three times a week. It's awesome that you're taking charge of your health and doing cardio, but have you thought about also doing strength training?
Avatar f tn What thyroid med and dosages have you been on? Trying to use TSH as a diagnostic by which to dose a hypo patient simply doesn't work. A good thyroid doctor will treat a hypo patient clinically by testing and adjusting Free T3 and Free T4 as necessary to relieve symptoms. Scientific studies have shown that Free T3 correlated best with hypo symptoms, while Free T4 and TSH did not correlate at all. You can get some good info from this link. http://hormonerestoration.com/files/ThyroidPMD.
Avatar n tn When I very first started with thyroid problems last year, swinging up and down from borderline high to borderline low everything changed including my reaction to alcohol. Also just recently I have been diagnosed with Sjogren's syndrome also, which they think has been running alongside the thyroid the whole time. Unfortunately, I cannot tell you how it works, I can only hope to help you by telling you that you are not alone.
