Common Questions and Answers about Thyroid and thinning hair

armour-thyroid

Avatar n tn Are you sure that you only need T4, because since I am taking Armour which is a natural T4/T3 I feel better my hair still falling but not as much as before when I was on Levoxyl. Ask your doctor if Armour is a good option for you? I am 39 but I only had like 10 months on treatment, but my mom and my two sisters also take thyroid medication for some years now. I am the first one to try Armour they have been with cyntroid and levoxyl. I think I am feeling a little better now.
Avatar m tn within a month i was so bad with the lose of hair and tired, the shakes,no energy and my heart felt like it was coming out of my chest everytime i walked a few distants or went up stairs that i went to another doctor and he imm. did blood work and asked me about family history. i'm adopted so i don't know anything. My labs came back and he said i was extremely HYPER...i didn't even know what a thyroid was.....so he sent me to a specialist.....which was comfirmed..
Avatar f tn 5 -- but separating the med as suggested may help absorption which would make the current dose more effective and lower the TSH. Thinning hair may be thyroid, may be something else -- see what happens when the TSH is optimized.
Avatar m tn Thyroid hair loss would be all over - as in thinning throughout the hair for general thinning, while pattern baldness would be thinning in certain spots. At least, that is what happened to me.

Avatar f tn I am recovering from VDD and had the dry thinning hair, headache, depression, brain fog and weakness, blocked ears among the symptoms. I am now 3 months since I started supplementing and the depression, brain fog and weakness, blocked ears are 95% gone. still the hair and skin is not back to normal but I assume that takes longer time. as you will see most people mention that complete recovery can take 6-12 months.
Avatar n tn I would suspect more of an iron deficiency, could also be lack of protein as well. :) I'm 32 and have Crohn's and 50% of my hair fell out. It's coming back but i feel your pain.
Avatar n tn I lost my hair like crazy in last pregnancy. My mom said it is common if you are pregnant with a little girl(old wives tale I guess?). And turned out I WAS pregnant with a girl.you eat healthy and don't worry much. You have way more hair on your head than you think and you will be fine. Keep earing healthy and not worry much as worrying will make it only worse.
Avatar m tn Should I get the above tests done again along with Ferritin, Vitamin D and B12 and visit a thyroid doctor? I would like to bring a complete stop to this gradual hair thinning and shedding. Would it help? Also, should I stop the medication before undergoing the tests? Look forward to your replies! Thanks!
519226 tn?1378991321 My hair is really thinning and I hate that it is happening. I found out that one of the side effects of the medicine can be hair loss. Has anyone had the same experience? Is so, what did you do to correct it? Also, Does anyone think that something else is going on with me that is causing the hair loss? It is just that it was such a coincidence that the same time I begain the levothyroxine, my hair started thinning.
Avatar f tn Hair loss is a common symptom of hypothyroidism. Sometimes, it's one of the first symptoms to go away when starting med, sometimes, it's the last. I'd guess that it's the Armour that has stopped the hair loss. BTW - I've read that spirulina should not be used with thyroid medication.
Avatar n tn Hi, Most people normally shed 50 to 100 hairs a day and this amount of hair loss should not cause noticeable thinning of the scalp hair. Hair thinning and loss could be due to increased rate of shedding compared to the rate of regrowth. This could be due to: hormonal changes, poor nutrition, diseases, certain medications, infections and stress.
Avatar m tn My hair and beard have been thinning for a while , and it seems to be getting worse by the week. I have had all the relative blood tests to rule out anemia and thyroid problems and they are negative.
Avatar m tn I'm an 18 year old female and recently, I've noticed my hair falling out. Thinning, really, but it's alarming and I can feel a really significant volume difference. I went to a doctor who did some blood tests for thyroid, iron deficiency, and iron binding. It came back that I'm Iron Deficient Anemic. I started take 90mg of Elemental Iron daily. The texture of my hair is totally different but the thinning hasn't gotten any better at all!! Help! I don't want to go bald!
Avatar n tn Hi all, dont know how to explain this, i am in utter shock and am worried to no end. My hair is thinning!! And falling out during shower. I use to have a pony tail and about 3 months ago i started to notice alot of hair fall during shower and while combing, and only in the last month i noticed the fall getting more and more and also that my hair has gotten very very thin as to i can see my scalp!!
Avatar n tn Feeling cold, slow pulse, low body temperature, dry skin, constipation, hair loss and thinning , depression and mood swings, tiredness, brain fog, frequent infections, and the list goes on. The thyroid controls the metabolism, and all systems can be sluggish due to thyroid insufficiency. Hope this helps, but you could soon check with a full thyroid blood panel, being FT3, FT4, TSH.
1300834 tn?1273123354 I noticed it when I had my hair layered and I looked in the mirror at the back of my head and I could see parts in my hair that showed my scalp and when I tried to move my hair around to cover the part another part would show. Their wasn't enough hair. My hair is thin, but it's alwasy been very full. My hairdressers USED to comment all the time on how much hair I had. When I touched my head I couldn't feel through to my scalp, now I can easily.
Avatar f tn Do you feel that your dry head and hair loss are related to thyroid issues? Are you on thyroid medication? If so, which medication/dosage? Can you post your most recent thyroid labs, along with the reference ranges from your lab report, so members can comment more fully?
Avatar n tn Anyone have any answers for thinning hair? I have been shedding for months and it is really scary. I have very fine hair and not a lot of it to start with.I have been on low dose PremPro for years and am a little worried about continuing with the breast cancer element but I am afraid to give it up and lose even more hair. I take a good vitamin, I am on thryroid, I eat right and have good lifestyle. I am afraid I will end up pitifully bald. Help?
Avatar n tn Oh make that thyroid hcv or hepc and thyroid, etc.
Avatar f tn My hair started slowly thinning around my 29th birthday, and now 4 years later I cannot seem to take a photo without a visible "bald spot" at the crown of my head. My PCP suggests I am running low on biotin, and while I've been taking some OTC I see no difference. She also says my thyroid is fine. What are the best steps to find out what the root of the issue is and how I can stop it? Being so young, at the rate I'm going, I really would like to not lose all of my hair.
Avatar n tn If your thyroid is not working properly it not only causes hair loss but depression! I wish you all the best and take care.
Avatar n tn one that may be affecting hair and nails could be the thyroid....and can cause skin to thin...so do talk to your Dr about an auto immune thyroid condition known as Hashimoto's Thyroiditis..... With testing for this they must look at Free T3 and Free T4, TPO antibodies and TSH. An ultra sound of the thyroid is a good idea as well as levels from testing can change and appear normal even tho an issue is present...the US will rule out the possibility of nodules on the thyroid.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with Graves disease 5 years ago. I've always had a great deal of hair like a main. A couple years ago I had breast cancer and lost all my hair do to chemo. It hasn't grown back as thrick and what has grown back is thinning. I take 125 mg of levoxal. I also noticed that my hair is dry and brittle. Does anyone have any suggestions. Even my friends have said I see your hair didn't grow back as thick. I think it's the thyroid medication.
