Avatar n tn It is unlikely to have thyroid cancer. He had small thyroid nodules and nonspecific areas inferior to the right lobe. The key here is to see an experienced parathyroid surgeon who can evaluate the thyroid at the same time. Based on the calcium and PTH levels, the diagnosis is likely primary hyperparathyroidism. The other thing to consider with this ultrasound appearance is to test for Hashimoto's with TPO antibody and TSH.
Avatar f tn I've come across a lot on parathyroid and thyroid disease and treatment but never noticed anything written that indicates RAI would normally do anything to the parathyoids. Your best bet is to ask the dr about this. Take care.
Avatar f tn Hi, my PTH is over 120, my calcium is 9.2 and both of my kidneys are full of stones. I have many of the symptoms of parathyroid disease but since my calcium is normal, my endocrinologist and urologist do not think this is the case. I've had a 24 hour urine test and that came back with everything within the normal range. I should mention that all of this started 4 years ago and before that I'd never had a kidney stone or any other symptoms.
Avatar n tn There is no thyroid nodule identified however there is a right parathyroid nodule identified measuring 1.4 x 6 cm. Nuclear medicine parathyroid study and/or MRI of the neck is highly recommended Thank you for the opportunity to participate in the care of this patient.
Avatar f tn You want an endo who specializes in thyroid/parathyroid, not diabetes. Call the nurse and ask the endo if this doctor treats the symptoms and the frees for thyroid. My endo is very knowledgeable about treating thyroid levels. He's also knowledgeable about parathyroid issues. http://www.thyroid-info.com/topdrs/ Some docs check thyroid levels every eight weeks, but mine treats my thryoid levels every four. Once we get me stabilized, then maybe once or twice a year.
675329 tn?1297288378 how will they know. can i have surgery to remove thyroid nodule if i need another surgery to remove parathyroid gland with adenoma on it.
Avatar f tn Do your homework and reading on line and educate yourself as much as possible, so you can be your own best advocate.
393685 tn?1425812522 Someone posted on this board a week or so back that they knew someone who had a parathyroid gland moved during a TT and implanted into her wrist. Weird, but possible, I guess. How to maintain healthy parathyroids or avoid damaging them is not discussed in the link I provided. I hope someone comes along and explains things in more detail, because I'm too lazy to google until I understand how they continue to function attached to an ablated thyroid.
Avatar f tn s the week I found out I was pregnant and pretty much the thyroid/parathyroid issue was put on the back burner (I'm 36 and therefore "high risk" so there where bigger fish to fry ie- amnio). And I wasn't too concerned since my Calcium had come back normal. Fast forward to now. I am on my 17th week, and I went to see the surgeon again. This is the first time he has had a case like this (his words). He performed another ultrasound and the tumors haven't changed.
Avatar n tn I have been doing reserach on the Parathyroid and have read that there may be a correlation with kindey stones and thyroid issues. Any feedback or websites would be very helpful! Its been a very long frustrating battle and my current doctor does not seem to really understanding my frustrations...
Avatar n tn The parathyroid glands are small endocrine glands in the neck that produce parathyroid hormone. Humans have four parathyroid glands, which are usually located behind the thyroid gland, and, in rare cases, within the thyroid gland or in the chest. Parathyroid glands control the amount of calcium in the blood and within the bones.
Avatar f tn Long story mercifully shorter, she finally ordered a scan to check for an enlarged parathyroid and there it was! I had surgery to remove it exactly a month ago, and I am feeling better every day.
Avatar f tn It's not time to panic yet...........Both the high TPOab and TGab indicate Hashimoto's. Goiter is "swollen thyroid", so the two - antibodies + goiter - would mean Hashimoto's. If you had it 12 yrs ago, you still have it. It's an autoimmune disease in which antibodies continually attack the thyroid and eventually destroy it. It's not something that goes away; you have it for life. Apparently, your thyroid tissue has not all been destroyed.
1039200 tn?1314912008 Most people have not heard of parathyroid, so they may just think of thyroid if they were to ever see or hear the word. Your thyroid gland is different. You have four smaller glands that are located near it that are completely different, called parathyroid glands. Any testing or questions they would use for diagnosing a thyroid problem would not tell them anything about the parathyroid.
679810 tn?1226460382 If it is a disease process, follow up TSH and other thyroid tests will monitor well and the visual evaluation at the time of surgery will also tell you a great deal.
Avatar m tn 5 cm mass on L parotid gland and a 3cm on my left thyroid and now because my blood calcium is high I need a special scan to look for a parathyroid adeoma I am told they are very small glands on the back of the thyroid where calcium is controlled,
Avatar n tn 7mm in diameter LEFT paratracheal mass seen inferior to the LEFT lobe of the thyroid which has increased T2 signal and enhances and may represent a small parathyroid adenoma." SPECT/CT, Oct. 08: "Asymmetric uptake inferior to the LEFT lower pole of the thyroid may represent parathyroid hyperplasia, less likely parathyroid adenoma.
Avatar n tn CT and MRI do not detect parathyroid disease -- this imaging can demonstrate abnormal appearance in the usual place of parathyroid glands (behind the thyroid) but the blood tests detect the disease -- so if calcium is normal, it's not likely a parathyroid problem. Would have a neck ultrasound to further clarify what may be happening there.
Avatar f tn Is FT4 the only thyroid test you had? Did you have a TSH and Free T3 as well? Since your FT4 is high, do you have symptoms of hyperthyroidism? The parathyroids have no relation to the thyroid gland, other than their location in the body.
Avatar f tn thanks but that site is about thyroid disease not parathyroid disease. Typically parathyroid levels are elevated in vitamin D deficiency; however, that's secondary hyperparathyroidism and they treat people empirically for D deficiency (and presumed secondary hyperparathyroidism) as long as their calcium is within the normal range. In primary hyperparathyroidism Vitamin D and calcium are not indicated I guess until after surgery.
400667 tn?1203744543 The thyroid gland regulates the body’s metabolism and has no effect on calcium levels while parathyroid glands regulate calcium levels and have no effect on metabolism." My daughter does have a large (9 CM) on her thyroid with some Nodules. I question why the Dr would speak of calcium deficiency if the thyroid has nothing to do with the production of it.
