209405 tn?1189755821 I remember seeing her show and at the end feeling very unsatisfied because the show made thyroid disease seem easy to fix and related to menopause. I've tried positive thinking and resting my way out. It doesn't work. Also, I spent over 10 years being diagnosed as clinically depressed when there was really something physically wrong with me. I really feel if it weren't for getting pregnant and finally being diagnosed, I would have died.
314892 tn?1264623903 Dr. Oz is on now and Oprah is talking about her thyroid and the Cleveland Clinic.
393685 tn?1425812522 Come on - don't beat yourself up. It was a good idea and not your fault that she didn't be honest about things. Ok - I didn't see the show, and it's very unfortunate that Oprah chose not to be an advocate for thyroid patients, but I guess a "divine intervention" draws a larger viewing audience than the truth does!! Balance? Yes, we do need balance - why doesn't someone teach the doctors that??
393685 tn?1425812522 There is an area on her website to submit story ideas as well .. could be creative with titles and submissions and if various people did it .. it should get noticed by those screening the entries. Wonderful idea Stella and, from a weight perspective, think I can help as well. Let's do this and get the world out about thyroid and weight .. and the useful benefits of the trackers and online support.
168348 tn?1379357075 I read this early this morning and wanted to share. She has thyroid issues and blames that, in part, for gaining weight along with a "fear of exercise" ... If she can do it .. we can do it .. I'm sure Ranae will have lots to share with us on this .. here's the article!!! --------------- Oprah Winfrey says she weighs 200 pounds By CARYN ROUSSEAU – 19 hours ago Associated Press: http://www.google.
Avatar n tn Hi Stella, Didn't Oprah say that she got her thyroid under control and now is off medication? From what I've been reading if you truly have a thyroid problem don't you have to take medication possibly forever? So did you write to Oprah? She is usually pretty open minded.
393685 tn?1425812522 Well, I wish I had not only the time she has taken for herself but the resources to let others do what she gave up to heal .. and , honestly, if I did what she did for herself and never even had a thyroid condition I'd be healthier too ... Did I say that? Oops .. oh well Tiaraless Tater on this one ...
393685 tn?1425812522 you need futher testing on your homone tests to see where this is messing up This over range test can suck the immune system and effect our components of burning weight when stricken with autoimmune diseases. The adrenals and thyroid are left to run weak. It increases fat cell production and weight gain can be an issue. 3. Medical records are going online in about a year.
Avatar f tn Go to a general practice doctor and pay cash and ask them to test your thyroid. Not too expensive if you just ask for TSH and Free t4. If you need meds, like levothyroxine, buy it at Walmart, $10 for 90 day supply (generic) with no insurance needed. Don't make a mistake and try to "save money". Just do what you need to do.
Avatar f tn My friend is a nurse and her ex had thyroid cancer and that was many years ago. So fingers crossed. So everyone will know why I went to the dr in the first place, it was because I was having a hard time swallowing and felt like I had a really tight turtleneck on. With all this I truly hope I am still undetected at the next blood draw. Best to all and svr.
Avatar f tn I LOVE OPRAH. Yes, I was watching and I often take her advice and TRY to practice what she discusses on some of her shows. I do believe it works but it is hard to achieve sometimes.
Avatar f tn I am going to ask my doctor to put me on armour, an older thyroid medicine that Oprah takes, and hopefully it will work better than Synthroid. I'll keep you posted.
398849 tn?1210135972 It is sad - but thyroid disorders are not top on any scientific list - they do minimal reasearch and put the first thought out there. Unfortunately us thyroid patients have to do alot on our own and use the trial and error approach to feel better. very sad. No real public awareness like breast cancer is. yet it is on the rise and no talk is going on. Let's flood Oprah - she got hypothryoid -so she would be perfect to hound to get this out and move some dead butts to get solutions.
168348 tn?1379357075 On a lighter note.....For thyroid awareness month....I am very aware of my thyroid and would love to share it with others!! LOL (Like my doctors....who like to make me wait for labs, my family members...who don't understand, etc) I wish that during thyroid awareness month that we could rid ourselves of our thyroid issues for a month and give those issues to our doctors and families, so they would understand first hand what we go through on a daily basis!!
483733 tn?1326798446 I got a bit disillusioned with Dr Oz during the Oprah episodes. He was telling her and the public that her thyroid issues were "cured" and took her off med because her levels were "normal" -- my levels are "normal" now too but if I come off my med, they won't be for long........... However, this might be something I should look into...........I'll try to pick it up next time I go to the book store.
Avatar f tn I look at Catherine Bell and she is beautiful and thin and a thyroid cancer survivor at age 21. She seems to manage her weight just fine. And then there is Oprah who is struggling like most of us. I imagine if you don't have any problems, you don't seek advice at boards like these. So maybe there aren't any thin hypo people here? Please senior members, if you have any advice, please share. I am getting really depressed.
393685 tn?1425812522 I found this on the Oprah thread. This member would like some suggestions on her daughter's health The mom ( doneitall ) is the one asking. Please assist if you can Thanks now, if anybody out there could please help me get my daughter's health back I'd really appreciate it!!! We are drowning in her hypothyroid...she's only 21 and has been struggling for the last 3 years...gone from a size 4 to a 14 ...she's in college...
Avatar f tn I did have a biopsy. It came back benign with folllicular cells. My doctor is still suspicious and states he just doesn't like the appearance. Psammoma-like calcification came from an u/s and with the radiologist remarking that on ultrasonic grounds, it is high suspicion for malignancy. The photopenic area came from the uptake scan which did show uptake in the nodule with absolutely no uptake with the rest of the thyroid. The small photopenic area was just below this nodule.
Avatar f tn I personally went 5 nonconsecutive days without thyroid medication. That will never happen again. I like breathing and i'm not a fan of hospitals. Excerpt from "Should You Stop Thyroid Treatment Like Oprah Did? Thoughts from Dr. Marie Savard"... "It is unusual and often dangerous for a patient with an underactive thyroid from autoimmune destruction (or surgical removal for that matter) to stop their thyroid medication for more than a few days to weeks.
606078 tn?1247264553 I felt like he was condemning any one of us who might not decide on his course of healing, and it struck me that when a man stands up and talks trash about his own peers, well he's not much of a doctor in my books. Doctors who have this mindset are the same doctors who say that Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue sufferers are all a bunch of crazy people looking for pity, or pill seekers looking for their next fix. I do apologize if I stepped on any one's toes, but this really upset me.
Avatar f tn I just left a reply to the Let's tar and feather Oprah thread and it is showing up. I said what I had to say and I won't say anymore on that subject. I have no respect for any doctor that will stand up and call his peers quacks.!! He spent entirely too much time hating on Oprah when he could have been maybe trying to find a cure to help those of us who are in chronic pain daily.
585414 tn?1288941302 but preferably a person from recent political history that is inspirational to you in how they lived their life and you think of them and their approach, in your life and their contribution to society. This isn't a debate so any side of the political spectrum is welcome. I'll start with mine.
Avatar f tn on the left is large and is over-producing thyroid horomone --- suppressing the TSH. It over-accumulates Iodine -- suprressing the iodine uptake of the right lobe. Removal or RAI are the two most common treatment options.
