574118 tn?1305135284 Obviously I'm not a doctor and can't do a good job of explaining it all. If you google "obesity and heart disease" there's a great explanation by the American Heart Association. The choice is titled Obesity and Heart Disease: A Statement for Health Care. I don't want to copy and paste it here. Not sure about the rules concerning that. But you could look it up, look it over and read how obesity can tie in with heart problems.
Avatar m tn I dont look healthy at all and my family has a history of obesity and many health problems come with it. I want to prevent these health issues and start living/eating/working out right. I have watched the biggest loser and have always tried to lose weight but I can't or I don't know how. Please help me live healthier and stronger. I need to lose this weight. 2166244 tn?1337092477 During the last year I gained 40 lb and I decided to check with a Endocrinologist, he ordered me blood test to check my TSH, T3 and T4, also glucose and made an eco of my thyroid. My thyroid is perfect, TSH is almost suppressed (0.012 in first evaluation and after 2 months is in 0.1), T3 and T4 are normal. Doctor says I should be Hyper but I am obese, so after the second blood test (2 months after) results are similar and I can´t lose weight (I´m on a diet).
2044355 tn?1330034267 I feel your stress Michelle and I'm sorry your so unhappy. When I was your age I went to Weight Watchers camp and only lost 40 lbs. I wasted a lot of my precious time believing what those "bullies" said about me. My suggestion for you is to drink so much water that just the thought of another glass makes you have to run to the wash room. Remember most of all that you are Beautiful!! People who don't or can't see that do not deserve to be your friend.
Avatar m tn I am also a strict vegetarian and have low iron levels and fatigue. My obesity and fat is all on my stomach, a huge protruding bell and I have male breasts, my arms and legs and thighs are thin and normal.
Avatar n tn obesity is not just a Chiari problem and you need to look at the bigger picture. With CM it is as Selma pointed out a side effect. You also need to look at the psychological aspect (is this an eating disorder or is it due to bad diet and lack of exercise) depression is also something some of us suffer from and this can lead to comfort eating. metabolism & thyroid problems need to be ruled out.
Avatar n tn thanx for your post. My endo's office called and i am scheduled for a thyroid scan and uptake on the 16th and 17th so hopefully that will shed some light onto the problems ive been havning as well . i will keep you posted as to what happens.
574118 tn?1305135284 This swelling is different from the fatty swelling of the obesity. Since the renal and thyroid functions are normal, these organs can’t be attributed to cause the obesity/swelling, as hypothyroidisim is known to cause generalized swelling. I don’t there’s a specific forum for obesity but I’ll suggest the “exercise & fitness” forum. Please consult your physician to rule out the possibility of the Congestive heart failure as a cause of generalized swelling.
Avatar n tn t causing those symptoms so I went back on my thyroid meds.

634733 tn?1316625992 Maybe they should have stated what the odds are of developing obesity in our modern times, the likelyhood and lifestyles and food choice and changes, since the horse and buggy, etc.... ok, rant really done...
Avatar n tn no, hypothyroidism is not an indication for obesity surgery. Correcting the hypothyroidism may help a little, but the hypothyroidism is not likely the only cause of the weight. It is harder, however, to lose weight with untreated hypothyroidism. Also, most surgeons would not do the bariatric (weight) surgery until the thyroid is corrected.
Avatar n tn She has also had tests for diabetes and thyroid and they were apparently normal. Please can someone give me some advice.
Avatar m tn Yes, read some other posts like your, someone will probally be along soon to help. It would be good to post your full test results and the ranges used for each. I was told that the Free T3 and Free T4 are important, more than TSH. Learned stuff, some gentle, some the hard way here. GREAT support here plus learning. I am getting through the speedy, hyperthyroid fly off planet feelings and wiped out. Glad I put an, almost, end to that.
Avatar f tn I have mine tested about every 4 months and I take Armour Thyroid as my med because it is the most natural and it was suggested because of my numbers. Also, there is a Thyroid Disorder Forum on Medhelp that might help you.
Avatar f tn I just read the link .. she states hyper .. hmmmm .. I was hypo and you wrote hypo ... Avatar n tn However, keep in mind calories are the fuel to burn that relates to skeletal muscle energy and can be stored for future use, but the heart uses and needs blood/oxygen (does not store oxygen) on a real time basis for an energetic and normal output. The faster the heart beats more oxygen for fuel increases and can be a vicious cycle...calories do not matter, but an abnormal heart rate can be an indication the heart is not meeting the demands and the heart is being overworked.
Avatar n tn pasta), fat free or low fat dairy products (skim milk, 1% milk, low fat cheese, low fat yogurts, low fat soy milk/yogurt), use plant oils, non trans-fat margarines, and eat a lot of fruits, salads, and vegetables. Eat daily high fiber breads and cereals (oatmeal) and limit ‘junk’ foods. Hoped that helped you.
Avatar m tn I took a blood test and everything is normal. My LDL is low and HDL is on the higher range of normal. I have started eating right and exercising for a minimum of 150 min a week. Kindly let me know if this should be enough to make changes to my health in terms of not being a victim to certain illness in the future.
Avatar f tn In recent years, increased expression of myostatin, a secreted anabolic inhibitor of muscle growth and development, has been associated with obesity and insulin resistance. Both hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism affect insulin sensitivity in multiple ways that might overlap adipocyte-myocyte crosstalk. Recent studies have provided new insights in effects of processing of the parent hormone T4 to the active T3 at the level of the skeletal muscle." ---Ref.
