Common Questions and Answers about Thyroid and heart palpitations

Avatar f tn I know that whether Ive been hypothyroid or hyperthyroid in past, I get palpitations, different heart rates... and Ive read that low thyroid can cause problems with hearts conduction system. My GP thinks is going to send me for another ECG when thyroid levels normal again.
Avatar f tn My endo said I may need to take thyroid hormone replacement therapy meds but he seemed to be a bit concerned about the palpitations and how the medication was going to make my palpitations worse. What's weird is that I actually never had palpitations before my thyroid problems started. Has anyone else here had a similar problem? Did you end up taking thyroid hormone replacement therapy meds and did they make your palpitations worse? or better?
1685350 tn?1305344023 Can drinking heavily for a few days give me heart palpitations and sweating? I only really experience it when I stand up or do a strenuous activity. I also have bad anxiety. I never seem to experience it until I started drinking again for like a week or so.
458072 tn?1291415186 I am wondering if too low a dose of armour thyroid can cause heart palps, or is it just if you have too much armour? Just thinking. Probably too much... Anyways, thanks for being here....
707897 tn?1234996750 t have any direct knowledge concerning your question, but I do recall reading some posts that related thyroid and heart rhythm problems. Others may be able to be more specific, hope this helps get what you need.
Avatar f tn PS My thyroid never came back to life it went quite hyper and then hypo but I dont really remember anyone ever saying that they had palpitations because of it. I'm not sure if that is even one of the side effecrts of thyroid disease. Side effects for Graves disease: Graves' disease are identical to the symptoms of hyperthyroidism, a condition that can be caused by Graves' disease.
Avatar f tn She went to the doctor and withdrawl blood to run some test on her thyroid and they prescribed her some beta blockers, until her lab test comes back. Could the Palpitations mean there is something wrong with her heart, and not her thyroid? This discussion is related to Hypothyroid-heart and headaches.
Avatar m tn t go away so I had my mom who is a nurse practitioner listen to my heart beat and take my heart rate and she said it seemed normal. I had Diet Coke with dinner and it went away after I talked to my mom then I had some smores and it started up again. I went to bed and when I woke up its been happening again. all I have eaten today is a banana and water. My family has had a history of thyroid problems and I can't get in to see my primary. Anybody know what is going on with me?
909086 tn?1242660764 t related to her levels as she was in normal range-only problem was that she never checked her freet3 level AND the pediatric cardiologist was a total bafoon and had no idea how not having a thyroid could effect her heart and could only recommend that my low metabolic daughter lose 30 lbs.) I fired both of these doctors on the spot!!!!!
Avatar f tn I fluctuate between borderline/mild hypo and normal (I also have a history of hyper) and I get heart palpitations (PVCs and PACs) too. There seems to be some correlation between my palpitations and my thyroid hormone values (they seem to get worse when my labs are more hypo) and I actually never had them before my thyroid issues started. Most doctors are convinced that hypo can't cause heart palpitations, but based on my experience and what I've heard from others, it can.
Avatar m tn 2.5 seems a bit high for TSH (possibly closer to the hypo side). Have you been tested for Hashimoto's (TPO and Tg thyroid antibodies)? It can cause similar symptoms (even if you are only sub-clinically hypo). I have Hashimoto's and my palpitations started shortly after my thyroid issues began, and they seem to get worse when I'm hypo or sub-clinically hypo. But I don't know if that's the only cause. What were your FT3 and FT4 values?
Avatar n tn About a month later I started having A LOT of heart palpitations. I went to the ER and they did an EKG that came back normal and the doc said my heart seemed fine. He did indicate that he could see my palpitations on the heart monitor. My blood pressure was 100/65 and my pulse was 65. He tested my TSH and it was at 25. He told me to drop my synthroid down to 50 mcg until I saw my doc because he thought the medication may be the cause of my palpitations.
458072 tn?1291415186 I had those horribly. Went to my Cardio Dr and said I had the heart of a teenager!! Go over to the Heart Rhythm forum and Connie will help you with any questions. I go there and have found my palps are harmless. Also, caffeine, laying on your left side, stress, eating too large of a meal, hot baths etc.. can all trigger these annoying things. I know my triggers and when I became aware, they are stopping!! I hope I helped alittle.
1109048 tn?1311009579 Yes, I get palpitations and sometimes missed beats. Magnesium does seem to help. Magnesium also helps in preventing stiff muscles (cutting down caffeine also helps muscle stiffness, if you indulge).
640719 tn?1277140030 I was just wondering if one is more likely to get heart palpitations when thyroid levels are low vs high?
822804 tn?1298226302 I would take the medication and be fine for a while and then my heart palpitations would begin and stay even keeping me awake at night My doctor decreased the medicine and the palps would stay. Ultimately I would stop taking the medication all together. Here I am again out of range for a healthy thyroid. I was placed on Armour thyroid. 0.05GR (30mg) I took this for 2 months and then my heart palps began again.
Avatar f tn Why not go to the ER for an exam if you have angina or a past diagnosis of heart issues!! No one here can tell you what's causing your palps. Do you have a cardiologist or primary care MD who you can call? Are you taking thyroid med (synthroid)? When was your TSH (thyroid level) last checked? What was the number? If you're TSH changed and you're taking too high a doseof thyroid med that could make you hyperthyroid and that MIGHT be the cause of heart palps.
Avatar m tn ve had trouble catching my breath, especially when exercising, and today I can add flushing, nervousness, and heart palpitations to the list. I know that these are listed as side effects of the Levo, and I will mention them to my doctor in a couple weeks when I go for my blood tests, but I'm curious how serious they are. Should I stop taking the meds? Will symptoms like this go away after a while? I'd almost rather be hypo than have heart palms every time I walk up a hill.
Avatar n tn I have thyroid nodules, can i still have a thyroid problem even if blood tsts are normal rnge? I show signs of hypothyroid.. i also suffer from cardioinhibitory and vasodepressor.
Avatar f tn I have been on Armour thyroid for 40 years with no problems and I guess from what I have read, I should consider myself very fortunate. In December I started with the heart palpitations and feeling bad. This has continued more than not until present time. I was decreased from 135 mg to 120 mg to 90 mg and lowered my dosage to 75 mg (I informed my doctor and he said that was fine if I was feeling better with that dose).
Avatar f tn Hi. I also have had heart palpitations. I talked with the doctor and she said probably is nothing, but they are going to check the thyroid hormonea..they can increase during pregnancy and cause palpitations, but i even if it is the case she said not to worry, it is nothing complicated, maybe some supplements to get them under control. Ask your doctor, but don't worry. Good luck!
Avatar f tn ve lost a substantial amount of weight in a few weeks. Dr ran labs and thyroid came back as its over producing. They ran more labs, and said the other results are normal so they are not treating anything. I'm just concerned as I've been having heart palpitations..any one else experienced this??
Avatar f tn The endo has told me that my palpitations are absolutely NOT caused from my thyroid, and that there is something wrong with my heart. I have had all the cardio work ups known to man, and there is nothing wrong, but the endo will not listen to me. My levels were 9.76 two weeks ago and I amfeeling worse every day. I am on 100 mcg Levo, and he refuses to increase it until I have waited 6 weeks and get my levels checked again. He also said it is totally unnecessary to check t3t4.
Avatar f tn A friend of mine who is also struggling with hashimotos asked me a couple weeks ago if I had noticed a link between heart palpitations and my menstrual. I told her I don't really remember and plus I'm not really tracking them, all I knew is that they were very rare now. My menstrual was due that week so I told her I'd keep an eye out for them. Sure enough 3 days prior to my menstrual I started getting them not bad but they were obvious.
