Avatar n tn I've never heard of fluoride causing (or contributing to) thyroid disease. I work in the water treatment industry and while there are EPA limits on the amount of fluoride in water, it would take excessive amounts to cause problems, then I don't know if it would, specifically, damage the thyroid. I can't see that dental treatments that are not consumed (toothpaste, rinses, etc) would cause an issue, but that's an interesting question.
Avatar m tn 4 was normal yet symptomatic and I had severe constipation needing Miralax for 2+ years and after my thyroid surgery for a nodule, I ended up on Synthroid and when my TSH dropped my constipation went away!!!! It was and still is related to my TSH .. they called it subclinical after the fact! I even had to have a colonoscopy done to r/o the big stuff b4 the GI would put me on the Miralax. So, yes, I am living proof it "may"have something to do with it.
Avatar f tn The amount in toothepaste might not be enough to interfere, the amount in fluoride tablets definately is. In fact, in the past fluoride pills were used as threatment for hyperthyroid. Also, since fluoride pills are usually taken if you live an an area that doesn't have fluoridated water theorectically the pills would only be replacing the amount of fluoride you would normally get from tap water there is a chance that highly fluoridated tap water could interefere with thyroid meds.
Avatar f tn ve been doing much research on the subject. There is a ton of information out there about the link between fluoride and hypothyroidism. Supposedly excessive or an accumulation of fluoride over the years can impair iodine absorption, leading to thyroid issues. Someone had mentioned in a previous post about being on Paxil for 3 years and experiencing dramatic weight gain. Well, from what I've researched one of the key ingredients in Paxil (and other SSRIs) is FLUORIDE!
Avatar n tn I'm a 43 year old female and had my thyroid removed in 2007 due to a suspect nodule. Since then, I've had rapid deterioation of my teeth. Since then I've had two root canals, two crows were unseated and one broke off. I have a bridge, my first molar extracted. My dentist says that he is seeing rapid decay. This year, I've also experienced sporadic pain that radiated from the LL to LR each month like clockwork. I eventually got a root canal and crown on one side.
455429 tn?1291260759 In a meantime, use fluoride-free toothpaste and make sure the water you drink is NOT fluoridated. (fluoride is believed to impair thyroid function; having only half of the thyroid increases the risk).
Avatar n tn "Dr. Barry Peatfield, author of Your Thyroid, and How to Keep it Healthy, stresses that the fluoride content of tea means that you should avoid drinking black, white and green tea in the morning, and may want to consider giving it up altogether. Fluoride was used in the past as a treatment for hyperthyroid conditions, so effective is it in "slowing" the thyroid and metabolic system. Calcium, iron, and soy-based formulas will bind with thyroxine and prevent it from being absorbed.
1299122 tn?1281040416 I get swollen glands occasionally (they come and go) and like you lots of aches and pains especially in the kidney area and just feel generally unwell with a persistant cough and cold symptoms. Oh and feel the cold terribly and very tired a lot. I also have a moderate goiter which sometimes makes me feel like a choker around my neck, I had an ultrasound done which showed enlarged thyroid with one nodule.
144586 tn?1284666164 Cancer, behavioral problems, thyroid suppression, male infertility and impotence are also some examples of what may happen to the body when too much fluoride is present. fluoride and aluminum is toxic enough that scientists warn about its connection to Parkinson’s and Lou Gehrig’s diseases. at certain levels it will accumulate in your brain and can lead to a form of degeneration. One study showed that rats given fluoride while still in the womb became hyperactive, Dr.
1139187 tn?1355706647 Hypothyroid patients must have their doctor monitor their TSH, T4, T3, and thyroid antibodies often in order to optimize thyroid function. If any of these values are off, then the thyroid function will be compromised and thus the MTHFR enzyme will be as well. It is critical that doctors monitor all these markers and not just TSH. TSH measurement by itself is worthless. It is similar to someone asking you where the car keys are and you reply back, “Over there.” ‘Where?’ you ask again.
Avatar f tn Hi foreverlostmom, You are on to something there. Fluoride is bad for you. it affects your brain and along with Bromide will mess up your Iodine levels and many experts believe, case thyroid problems. I am no expert but I have read many studies. Google fluoride and you will find a lot about the most recent studies. I guess you may have already gotten that far since you pointed out those pictures. I encourage you to continue to research.
Avatar f tn Iodine is often contraindicated in many cases in which Hashimoto's is present as it can make an autoimmune attack worse than it might otherwise be. That said, you don't mention which drugs you're referring to that eliminate iodine from the formula, so it's hard to answer your question.
Avatar n tn Dear Dr. my question is regarding my son who is 7. He had a dentist appointment that confirmed his teeth are growing in mottled. As a parent I am very concerned so I did some research which suggests that the thyroid is responsible for this condition. Here is an exerpt from one of the articles I read....
Avatar n tn (Used to take 120mg of NP thyroid) Removal of fluoride has reversed my condition too rapidly for my body’s hormones (it happened in 1 month). Displayed Hyperthyroid symptoms in April. Went to ER 3 times due to heart scares - checked out ok. I was completely off thyroid medication when I developed a heart flutter. Had to go back on a small dose (12.5mcg synthroid) to make it less, but now showing signs of hyperthyroid symptoms again.
Avatar f tn Have you ever thought about maybe taking an iodine supplement for your hypothyroidism? It's supposed to be really good for your thiroid. Supposedly fluoride and iodine have almost the same chemical make up and the body mistakes the fluoride in water for iodine so the flouride attaches to the thiroid instead of the iodine because your body has so much more fluoride. Me and my husband don't have thyroid issues but we both take a Nascent Iodine supplement every day.
Avatar f tn just on my block there are 8 households with one or more thyroid disorders and thyroid cancer...just thought I would ask......
Avatar f tn In 2006 my dentist (I see the hygienist every 3 months for deep cleaning) had me on fluoride toothpaste, mouthwash, fluoride treatments, and using Gel-Kam fluoride topical gel at home. My gums continued to recede regardless but the fluoride was supposedly protecting the exposed root. (not terrible exposure but enough) I've read since that fluoride can mimic thryoid hormone and is an endocrine disruptor.
Avatar n tn our own saliva (it is two way street them, it both remineralizes and demineralizes) and fluoride.
Avatar f tn After I had dental cleaning and fluoride treatment I noticed these brown streaks in five of my fingernails. My thumb actually has two of these streaks. The streaks are from beginning of nail to the free edge. Anyone else ever see this?
1463533 tn?1286055554 Anyway, managing stress is also very important with thyroid, and auto-immune thyroid from what I continue to read and Sophia states above can be a roller coaster of thyroid hormone swings from a sputtering gland. Did you have an ultrasound to check for nodules when you had the blood work that diagnosed hashis?
Avatar f tn I have hypthyroid and didnt realize Green Tea had a negative effect on Thyroid...could you please tell me in what way....
Avatar m tn The closest i can think of to a washing powder taste is a soapy mouth taste which is a symptom of excess fluoride. I've read a few forums and medical links and symptoms of fluoride toxicity list every one of your symptom right down to electric like shocks in the leg. This may not be the cause of your symptoms but it is definitely worth looking into as beer contains fluoride.
398849 tn?1210135972 can you please tell me if biopsies are done on thyriods when they are removed for cause and effects ie levels of mercury, fluoride etc. and if so is there a registry where they are entered and tracked.
Avatar f tn As the thinning enamel is not yet that bad, could the high fluoride toothpaste strengthen and/or improve the appearance of my teeth? Is there anything a dentist could do to stop this progressing any further? I'm only 22 and I have this fear that in ten years, this will be much worse, despite the effort I'm going to, to prevent it. This is a new development, prior to this I had never had any problems caring for my teeth and had never had any cavities or needed any fillings.
Avatar f tn s caused hypothyroidism, the current trend is to limit thyroid function inhibitors [fluoride, perchlorate] rather then oversupply the patient with iodine excess.
