903476 tn?1242237037 Very helpful thank you, I did go see a doctor and shes 99% sure it's tendonitis and this is just the first time it has ever become inflamed. She has has sent me for X-rays I will be getting tomorrow and she wants me to see a physiotherapist. She wont tell me 100% till she runs more tests but between the ice and heat sand of course the Tylenol the pain is gone but now I'm feeling pain in my left thumb.
Avatar f tn The pain radiates into my elbow area and even seems to be triggered by certain positions. This morning I awoke with pain and clicking in my right thumb. Additionally, there is swelling in the thumb and a soreness into the heel of my hand (where thumb connects to hand). I am taking meds for migraine/stroke (Plavix, verapamil, lasix, lisinopril, along with thyroid replacement therapy and some allergy prescriptions.
Avatar f tn I am 27 and otherwise healthy. I have had soreness in my left thumb, and my Doctor said it was carpal tunnel. Suddenly it became so painful i could not move it, and the er doc. said it's dequervain's tendonitis. I have redness, swelling, and slight bruising, but no pain in my wrist. ( also there was no injury ) I have been wearing a splint and taking nsaid's for 3 days now with no improvement. Does anyone know what is wrong with my thumb?
1308443 tn?1302693321 I started having (left) wrist pain about 3 weeks ago. By the end of the first week, I was hurting enough to pay attention to it. I iced, heated, rested (as much as possible), and wrapped it at night, as well as taking NSAIDS. The pain kept getting worse all week despite my efforts. It was mainly at the base of my thumb, but would shoot up my arm towards my elbow. That would simply leave me in tears. I couldn't twist or grab anything.
Avatar f tn My question is, how could this tendonitis spread? Can tendonitis do this? If not, then what is affecting me? Could this be nerve, vein, or ligament damage? How could any of these types of pain be able to spread? Why does popping the joints cause (albeit minor) relief? Any sort of feedback would be greatly appreciated! Thank you so much!
Avatar n tn A localized bruising, swelling and pain in thumb can be due to infection, bleeding blood vessels, injury, rheumatoid arthritis, bursitis or inflammation of the lining of joints, arthritis or due to tendonitis. You need non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, along with something to bring down the swelling. An X-ray may not reveal anything if there is no fracture. You may need blood tests and MRI. You need to consult a rheumatologist. Take care!
Avatar f tn I know by now you may have resolved this issue, but after my first child, I had this kind of pain and it turned out to be pregnancy induced tendonitis. A hand doctor gave me a shot in each of the wrists and the pain went away in a few days.
Avatar m tn To me it sounds like either tendonitis or carpal tunnel in the beginning stages. I have tendonitis. When I first got it I had shoot pain up the wrist near the radial artery area. I got treated thru workmans comp PT and then it went away with Ibupropin, and wrist brace for two weeks. Then, a couple of years later I was working repetitively and my right thumb starting involuntarily twitching. Then it would stop. Later I got pain in my thumb. Now I have chronic tendonitis and can't work.
534810 tn?1213327718 I have developed a trigger finger and dequervains tendonitis in bilateral wrist w/thumb pain. Had to go off med for a month and also have sites injected w/cortisone. Never had any of this before. Oncologist said she had seen trigger finger before no dequervains tendonitis? Wondering if anyone out there has had any of these side effects? And what do you think of this? I am miserable w/all this discomfort.
Avatar m tn I agree, it could be tendonitis. I have tendonitis in both wrists and in the beginning my hands would get numb. I think the inflammation is pressing on the medial or other nerve in the wrist. I would see an orthopedic surgeon hand specialist. Not, just for surgery but they can check if it is tendonitis. They may do a nerve conductivity test to be able to tell if one of the nerves is affected.
Avatar f tn I used to have a lot of pain in my large thumb knucke and wrist area. I thought maybe it was carpal tunnel, but was tested and the nerve is fine. I could not even cup my hand to hold water to wash my face. If I bumped it the pain was unbareable. You may not believe this, but I bought this band call Q-ray and within 24 hours the pain subsided so much that I hardly notice it at all. This was over 5 years ago and I am still relatively pain free. Mind over matter....
Avatar m tn Wrist Tendonitis (DeQuervains Tendonitis) can be defined as an irritation and swelling of the sheath or tunnel which surrounds the tendons of the thumb. Typically the pain will be present at the front of the wrist. Pain will be initiated when grasping an object or pinching the fingers." Please let us know how you are doing. I will look forward to your next post. Take Care, Tuck R.I.C.
Avatar n tn The doctor had told me that they can’t do anything about it and is sounds like tendonitis but when I look on the internet about wrist tendonitis it says that you feel pain in the side of your thumb whereas, my pain is in somewhere in the carpal middle so it might be the lunate bone. When I read information on the internet about Kienbock's disease it matches with the symptoms. Can someone please help and tell me what to do?
Avatar n tn It has been about 2 weeks now since my wrist started hurting. The pain is on the thumb side of the wrist. It don't think it is a fracture because there is no swelling or discoloration. But it sure hurts a lot. When I wake up it hurts a lot - even for the slightest moment and then the range of motion improves as the day progresses. I am not sure if it is a a ligament tear.
Avatar m tn Most of my symptoms have disappeared or improved but I still have pretty bad pain in my fingers and tendons on my hands. My thumb, index, and middle finger hurt the most, along with the tendons down my thumb. Since starting antibiotics it has improved slightly but it only got so better. Currently I'm on doxy and omnicef along with many supplements (mainly for my immune system). Will different antibiotics help better? I've tried pain meds as well as joint supplements without any relief.
Avatar n tn A couple of days ago I was sitting at my computer when I experienced a sharp pain in my wrist. It's right where the hand ends at the pinky and the pain comes and goes quite frequently. I'm pretty sure its not carpal tunnel because I don't experience any numbness in my index finger or thumb but i'm thinking it might be tendonitis. Anybody have any ideas on what it is and how to releave the pain?
Avatar f tn I have the same thing but I havnt gone to a doctor or anything, mine too came after I had a child and I play video games on my pc and after a while when ever I get off I realize my wrist locked up the bent position it was when I was typing i pop it back with out pain but when I do experience pain is when I try to lift myself up with my palm down I have to make fist to push off of.
Avatar m tn It is an inflammation or a tendinosis of the sheath or tunnel that surrounds two tendons that control movement of the thumb. Symptoms are pain, tenderness, and swelling over the thumb side of the wrist, and sometimes difficulty gripping. It is diagnosed by physical examination and Finkelstein maneuver. Treatments for De Quervain's tenosynovitis includes rest, splinting, ice compresses, antiinflammation medication like diclofenac, and/or cortisone injection.
Avatar f tn I have been having sharp pain in my wrist (not thumb) ever since some guy I used to work with grabed my wrists very very tightly and yanked them up in the air. (he was a bully) ever since then (3 or4 yrs ago) my wrists are super sensitive. If i try and do anything that puts any sort of pressure on my wrists they hurt for a month maybe. Could this possibly be Tendonitis?
186737 tn?1269884660 t have much along the lines of tendonitis anywhere but still have pain in my SI joint and leg. X-rays in October said no sacroiliitis. 12 months X-rays said I had sacroiliitis. The rheumatologist who DXed FMS I stopped seeing in 07 because he wanted to treat everything with lyrica. My new rheumatologist now took me off of prednisone to assess my joints and he then put me on MTX because I asked him to. The MTX worked, but nothing makes sense. BTW, I get real tendonitis seen on MRI.
Avatar f tn I was just diagnosed with Dequervains tendonitis in both hands. Has anyone ever heard of this? My family doctor wants me to see an orthopedic but the one I go to for the osteoathritis in my knees I am not pleased with. I don't know whether to find a doctor or just put some kind of splint on my thumbs and wrist. Suggestions appreciated.
Avatar f tn in my thumb, particularly in the flexor tendon area. Iced it finished my shift. The next day it was very swollen and extremely sore. I went to an urgent care center who diagnosed me with tendinitis . Put it in a simple splint followed by 3 weeks of pain control physical therapy with no improvement. Went to a hand specialist who xrayed it, negative for fracture, etc. She put me in a cast for 3 weeks to immobilize the area, told me it was tendinitis/sprain. Cast came off..
Avatar f tn Lately i have had numbness in my thumb, index finger, midfle finger, ring finger and pinky finger as well as pain in this fingers. My wrist, forearm, and elbow gets pain in it. I also get pain when i grip something too long. I also have a hard time laying in bed typing. Is this tendons, ligaments, nerve, inflammation?
Avatar f tn Posting this here because I'm not sure where else it would go. I have had severe pain and limited range of motion in the MCP joint of my right thumb for several months. I do not remember injuring it, and have been conservative with activities that may aggrivate it (ie texting). Finally went to a doctor and he told me it was a form of tendonitis (that interestingly enough, after some research, affects the basal joint and not the MCP joint). He gave me topical steroids and that was all.
Avatar m tn I have hope for my numbness because i will be getting that diagnosed soon enough, but you have probably noticed a trend throughout my story... What about the wrist pain? Not the thumb pain or the numbness or the tingling, the top of the wrist pain that won't allow me to put weight on my wrist after a YEAR.
Avatar m tn To find this area you will have to poke around, as it is not the same location where you feel the tennis elbow pain. Its called refereed pain. Then sleep with it strait, put some sports elbow guard on backwards, then you can bend at night. Also feel for a trigger point in your bicept or tricept, push in deep, it will hurt at first but instant relief will occur in the elbow pain. been there done that!
