Avatar m tn When I move my thumb up and down, the tendon controlling my thumb snaps. If I put my finger over the tendon, I can feel it sliding out of place. If I make a fist, I can feel the tendons in my fingers snapping. It sometimes gets sore in my fingers. And my left elbow is a huge issue. I can feel and hear something in my elbow crunching if I extend my left arm. I have never broken any of my arms, or any of my bones. My ankles are another big issue.
Avatar m tn Every site I look at says it is felt at the base of the thumb or wrist but although I know I have De Quervains (the test was quite painful) the worst of the pain will often be not those two tendons next to each other but the thumb tendon that is closer to the top of the wrist and if i pinch my thumb and forefinger together there is a sharp pain where the finger and thumb tendon meet on top at the wrist.
Avatar n tn s Eve I was diagnosed with trigger thumb and prescribed 8 physical therapy sessions. (The tendon at the base of the thumb is noticeably thick) I had little to no improvement after the PT (over a 4 week period) and sought a second opinion. The second doctor ordered an MRI that didn't show anything except inflammation around the bottom joint of the thumb (I had developed pain in that joint by then).
Avatar n tn i severed a tendon in my left thumb i cannot pull the tip back im in constant pain. the skin has healed but the tendon is still severed i did not get surgery due to financial issues.
Avatar n tn oops I see that you said thumb now! Silly me I kept thinking knee! Either way it could be arthritis or purhaphs a old sports injury?
Avatar f tn I used to have a lot of pain in my large thumb knucke and wrist area. I thought maybe it was carpal tunnel, but was tested and the nerve is fine. I could not even cup my hand to hold water to wash my face. If I bumped it the pain was unbareable. You may not believe this, but I bought this band call Q-ray and within 24 hours the pain subsided so much that I hardly notice it at all. This was over 5 years ago and I am still relatively pain free. Mind over matter....
1524304 tn?1326396974 For a while I'm experiencing something weird about my left wrist, thumb side. When I wake up at night or after some period of not using my left wrist it feels stiff and when I put weight on it (like when getting up from sitting in bed) there's sharp pain at the base of the thumb/below thumb. And usually accompanied by loud snapping/popping sound.
Avatar m tn Sounds like you could be over using it. You are compensating for not having the use of your left arm? Am I correct? There is a tendon at the base of your thumb, where the fleshy part is, that can get overused and swollen. It takes a good week of putting some ice on it for no more than 20 minutes at a time to help bring the inflammation down. It should feel better in no time if you rest it. I had a problem with mine when I was lifting weights. I just overused it.
Avatar n tn s disease is a painful inflammation of a tendon attached to your thumb. You can have pain when you are moving your thumb away from your hand and you can have difficulty with activities requiring a firm grip and twisting of your hand. This pain typically occurs at the base of your thumb and the radial side (same side as the thumb) of your forearm. If you do not have these symptoms then follow up with an orthopedician for a second opinion and for a proper diagnosis. Take care!
Avatar n tn Tendons that control the movements of the fingers and thumb slide through a snug tunnel of tissue created by a series of pulleys that keeps the tendon in place. The tendon can become irritated as it slips through the tunnel. As it becomes more and more irritated, the tendon may thicken, making its passage through the tunnel more difficult. The tissues that hold the tendon in place may thicken, causing the opening of the tunnel to become smaller.
534810 tn?1213327718 I have developed a trigger finger and dequervains tendonitis in bilateral wrist w/thumb pain. Had to go off med for a month and also have sites injected w/cortisone. Never had any of this before. Oncologist said she had seen trigger finger before no dequervains tendonitis? Wondering if anyone out there has had any of these side effects? And what do you think of this? I am miserable w/all this discomfort.
Avatar n tn Inability to bend the thumb can be due to flexor tendon injury. It can cause pain on the palm side of thumb base. Treatment usually involves ice packs, splinting, pain medications and rest to thumb. This is followed by active physiotherapy. Please consult your doctor regarding this. Hope this helps. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you.
Avatar f tn as I understand it, this is caused by the tendon sheath becoming inflammed and the tendon cannot move properly and thus excruciating pain .. my daughter had extensive swelling from it. Hers started from Bandminton the first time and the 2nd time from pouring coffee at her job at a fast food rest. She poured with her right hand and bcz she is lefty, it was the weaker of the two and the AM bkfst shifts must have caused it since she repetivley was pouring the coffee all morning long.
Avatar n tn About 4 months ago I started with pain everytime I bent my thumb. Unless that I bent it there's no pain. Gradually the same thing happened to my little finger and now most of my fingers. When I knock them they hurt a lot and when I'm in contact with ice(for example searching for food in the freezer) they hurt and become very sensitive.
Avatar f tn is it true, that if u sever tendon in thumb 1 year ago it cant be retrived and fixed
Avatar m tn For our members that may not know, the abductor pollicis brevis is a muscle in the hand that functions as an abductor of the thumb. Abduction of the thumb is defined as the movement of the thumb anteriorly, actually away from the rest of the digits.
Avatar m tn Yesterday I woke up and my hand (right little finger & finger next to it) hurt. I believe I slept with my fingers curled up tightly and thought it would just go away. But hurt all day and today it is swollen from little finger down along the outside of my hand and pain is much worse. I didn't hit my hand, so do not hink it is a broken bone....but I've had a broken thumb previously and pain & swelling are similar. Help!!!
Avatar f tn Two weeks after that while putting on my shoe I experienced a loud pop and horrific pain. Dr stated tendon was enact and emobilized it for approximately one month with no improvement. He then started me on physical therapy (still no MRI ) also with no improvement for 2 months. Finally got a MRI and it shows that I have a longitudinal split tear flexor pollicus longus tendon at the base of the proximal phalanx. What could cause this and what should I expect.
Avatar f tn Whenver she tries to lift or touch something using her thumb, she gets this bulge at the base of the thumb on top of her hand (thumb knuckle). Her thumb then leans all the way down at a strange angle. It painful but she is able to "click" it back herself by moving her thumb out and up. I have strapped it up to immobilise the thumb, what else can I do and why is this happening?
Avatar n tn Ligament Reconstruction Tendon Interposition is a procedure of choice for basal thumb joint pathology. The results of surgery are good in increasing the basal strength of thumb with increase in the average grip strength and average tip pinch strength. The results of surgery are good if there is no pathology involved and if there were no complications associated with surgery. I think you need a re-evaluation. You need to consult the surgeon back.
Avatar f tn Is it possible for your wrists just to be plain weak as I have been thinking all sorts of answer's like Carpal tunnel or tendon problem for the last 2 months. Although just now I have a sharp pain going from his time my thumb and index not little finger as first thought in past weeks straight up my left fore arm. Also does anyone know could your period make things worse? As for maybe last 2 weeks or so uncomfortable pains has eased off abit. So what is this without bothering the doctor?
Avatar m tn My right hand middle finger joint (the one between the first and second phalanges seens to dislocate or move out of place when I press it with my thumb. It seens to pop although I can´t hear any sound, unless I´m holding it very close to my ears. It occurs when I press the left side of the joint ( the one closest to my index finger) using my thumb. I don´t know if it is the bone or some kind of ligament or tendon that is actually moving, but I can fell something moves out of place.
Avatar m tn Nearly 12 weeks post trigger thumb/carpal tunnel surgery on primary hand, the thumb joint is enlarged and hand still feels tight. Pain in the region of the surgery and thumb when hand is utilized in a normal/usual pattern. Palm has some discoloration and remains tender. What would you recommend? Would an orthopedic physician be of any assistance? Thank you.
Avatar f tn The pain radiates into my elbow area and even seems to be triggered by certain positions. This morning I awoke with pain and clicking in my right thumb. Additionally, there is swelling in the thumb and a soreness into the heel of my hand (where thumb connects to hand). I am taking meds for migraine/stroke (Plavix, verapamil, lasix, lisinopril, along with thyroid replacement therapy and some allergy prescriptions.
Avatar f tn I have a laceration under my thumb and both digital nerve and flexor tendon were cut. I can't bend my thumb and can't feel anything with my thumb. I can't afford surgery for the repairs, I will have to live with it. Can both go unrepaired?
