Common Questions and Answers about Thumb pain mouse

finger

Avatar n tn Of late, I have noticed mild pain in my right hand and wrist especially when on the computer. The pain is more neuralgic type and not necessarily bone or muscle pain. I feel it is also finger specific, especially all my fingers other than my thumb and pinkie all of which I use to move the cursor. I am afraid I may have carpal tunnel. Please do suggest what to do now.
Avatar f tn This then presses on the nerve which then causes a pain right up to the elbow. Thumb and pointer finger are first to be affected. Often proper working style, working without bending wrist, using smooth movements to operate the mouse and key pad, and relaxing the joints of finger, wrist and arm in between helps. A wrist support or arm support too helps and you have computer chairs with support for your spine and arm.
Avatar n tn It has been about 2 weeks now since my wrist started hurting. The pain is on the thumb side of the wrist. It don't think it is a fracture because there is no swelling or discoloration. But it sure hurts a lot. When I wake up it hurts a lot - even for the slightest moment and then the range of motion improves as the day progresses. I am not sure if it is a a ligament tear.
Avatar m tn This could be carpal tunnel syndrome due to entrapment of median nerve. it is caused by prolonged use of computer or thumb and index finger as in improper position of arm and wrist can result in mouse elbow. Application of ice pack, anti-inflammatory drugs, wearing wrist braces, stretching and strengthening exercises when the pain subsides and modification of the way you click mouse goes a long way in avoiding further injury and treating the present symptoms.
Avatar n tn I believed I had Carpal tunnel syndrome because when I was writing i would get a shooting pain up and down ONLY my wrist area, and when on the computer when my right hand was using the mouse and resting on the desk at the same time, my wrist hurt too much to have any pressure on it.
Avatar m tn t mention that the mouse was bleeding or not.If the blood of the mouse come contact with the saliva of your cat than there is a small risk.If you have doubt you consult with a doctor. You can get a rabies vaccine that will banish your doubt and it will protect you from getting further rabies infection.Have a good luck...................
Avatar n tn Uncontrollable thumb twitching when holding an object and trying to hold a button down with my thumb. A;so fingertips are bright purplish red.
Avatar m tn When scalene muscle is the cause of pain, the pain is referred to chest, inner lining of scapula (shoulder bone), shoulder, posterior and lateral sides of the arm right up to the thumb and index finger. Repeated clicking of mouse of computer can injure the tendon of index, cause compression of median nerve and also cause this numbness. Please consult your PCP for primary examination followed by proper referral. Take care!
584818 tn?1218287801 Dr. Kalra MD: I live in Detroit MI. I lifted a heavy package in my arms last fall and all of a sudden a shot of pain went through my neck, back and arms right down to my ankles. I was almost paralysed for the first few months. I strained every tendon or nerve tissue in the body. It is now July 2010 and pain still exists in my right hand when I try to write lying down. Carpal tunnel syndrome?
Avatar f tn When I wake in the mornings, my left thumb and my 3 middle finger joints and thumb on my right hand hurts like mad. What can this be? I work in an office and use the keyboard and mouse constantly, can that be the reason this is happening? Is there some topical ointment I can rub on it to make the aching pain go away? If not, is there some oral medicine used to treat this kind of pain!! Thank you in advance for your help.
Avatar n tn m a graphic designer, recently graduated from college and just started my first job. Toward the end of college I occasionally got pain in my right wrist from computer-mouse use; ergonomics seemed to help, however my wrist got weaker over the summer. When I started my first full-time job in Sept, the pain became unbearable. My wrist is weak, I cannot do my hair, stir food on the stove, or put any pressure on that hand (no yoga, no push-ups).
Avatar f tn Very similar story, earlier elbow/arm,shoulder pain that disappeared, but no known injury and 62 year old female, use computer mouse, keyboard a lot. No pain in thumb, just doesn't work to bend last distal joint.in right thumb. Same story, first noticed with trying to use a lighter. First joint seems to work fine. Just thought it was a curious mystery "fluke" associated with age, and not a big deal. But I guess it's been about 5 weeks so wondering how others have fared.
Avatar m tn I wouldn't worry about it if the cat has had her shots. She was only acting that way because you interrupted her hunt. I wouldn't worry too much about the mouse blood, unless you're sure the mouse was sick. It doesn't sound like the mouse was sick. We lived where the cats caught field mice and shrews all the time and none of the cats ever got sick.
Avatar m tn Wrist Tendonitis (DeQuervains Tendonitis) can be defined as an irritation and swelling of the sheath or tunnel which surrounds the tendons of the thumb. Typically the pain will be present at the front of the wrist. Pain will be initiated when grasping an object or pinching the fingers." Please let us know how you are doing. I will look forward to your next post. Take Care, Tuck R.I.C.
Avatar n tn Recently my right thumb has started popping out of joint and won't bend all the way straight. I had carpal tunnel surgery on this hand in April of this year (5 months ago) and this hand has been bothering me ever since. But this last problem is really painful and scary at times. Yesterday I almost couldn't get the thumb to go back into joint, but it finally did after a few minutes. What could be causing this? Also since surgery, there are larger bumbs(knots) under my skin (palm area).
Avatar m tn Symptoms begin with either numbness and tingling of the first three or two fingers from the thumb side or by just pain. Usually there is no swelling. Treatment is usually by splints and steroid injections. Surgery may be required in some cases. It could also be rheumatoid arthritis, gout or tendonitis. However all these would also cause some inflammation and swelling. Please consult an orthopedic specialist. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted.

Pain in the region of the surgery and thumb when hand is utilized in a normal/usual pattern. Palm has some discoloration and remains tender. What would you recommend? Avatar m tn It was fine one day and then the next morning I woke up in severe pain. Sometimes the pain is going all the way up into my elbow and my arm from wrist to elbow hurts, sometimes it just shoots up to my elbow, but most of the time it is just in my wrist and it hurts really bad regardless of what I'm doing. I can be laying in bed to go to sleep and it hurts or trying to do something that requires use of my hand.
Avatar m tn I also tend to push on my thumb and pinkie in locked extended position with the use of a turbo mouse. The pain got so bad I thought I was going to have to give up my work in graphic design. I have tried everything except surgery. I did one Cortizone shot and it abated the pain for about 2-3 months. Hand massage and stretching helped a little. Took some meds, mainly for the inflammation, but was not interested in masking the pain.
Avatar m tn burning/stinging sensation on the back of both hands when writing, holding a book or using computer mouse, searing tricep pain and shooting stinging pain from hands into forearms and shoulders (not exactly a straight traveling pain but more diffuse through arm when using fingers for typing, texting or holding things. All symptoms bilateral. Nov: saw internist who suspected cervical disk/nerve issue. MRI of neck showed only minor hypertrophy.
Avatar f tn I've been having pins and needles down my arm and pain in shoulder for about 6 weeks. Every day it seems to be getting worse, I can't do dishes, bath my children or even use the mouse on my computer without the pain escalating to an excrusiating level. My xrays only showed Mild narrowing of the C5-6 disc space with mild retrolistheses, straightening of cervical lordosis. ( which i don't fully understand what this means) My question is.... Could there be more going on?

Physiotherapy will go a long way in improving your condition.
