Common Questions and Answers about Thumb pain ligament

Avatar n tn or is it the ligament that is threaded through the remaining thumb bone? is the graft better to get for the anchovi? and does it(the graft) last longer than the harvested ligament? too young to have arthritis.
Avatar f tn My doctor says the stabbing pain I get in the base of my thumb on the fleshy palm part is probably osteoarthritis, This came on quite suddenly several months ago - I had on occasions put my hand out to stop my elderly husband from tripping over. The joint at the base of the thumb is also quite swollen in a boney sort of way. I mainly get a short sharp stabbing pain on the fleshy part but on resting the hand it does not hurt that much. Could this be a ligament problem?
Avatar n tn Oh no. Well, you say surgery in 2 hours? You cut your ligament? I'm a little confused what you are asking. Have you seen the doctor (wouldn't think a plastic surgeon was who you'd go to but they certainly could do the surgery. Orthopedic seems a better match to me though)? It's been several hours since you posted. How did it go? Did they tell you what the surgery would entail?
Avatar f tn TMy thumb got tangled in my 100 lb. bulldogs collar while trying to get him off of my son's dog. When I FINALLY got them seperated I had the worst pain in my thumb and around the base of the thumb. It immediately started swelling. I could move it some, it was just very painful. I thought it would be back to normal next morning if I iced it before bed. Had very painful night and swelling had spread from thumb and base to whole top of my hand and fingers below knuckles, also palm of hand.
Avatar m tn which I could use as therapy but am afraid that I might damage the ligaments again, if I move the thumb too much. The pain has subsided but not completely. My thumb is stiff.but I work on it daily. How long does it take to cure a painful thumb.
Avatar n tn Hi, I injured my right thumb about four months ago. Initially there was only discomfort, however after a month or so the discomfort turned into pain. It got the the point where I sought out medical help. In the first instance I saw an OT who indicated I'd torn a ligament in the thumb and provided me with a splint. The splint exacerbated the swelling and the pain was consistent while wearing the splint.
Avatar m tn My right hand middle finger joint (the one between the first and second phalanges seens to dislocate or move out of place when I press it with my thumb. It seens to pop although I can´t hear any sound, unless I´m holding it very close to my ears. It occurs when I press the left side of the joint ( the one closest to my index finger) using my thumb. I don´t know if it is the bone or some kind of ligament or tendon that is actually moving, but I can fell something moves out of place.
Avatar f tn During a snowboarding accident i landed on my hand where my thumb was caught and pulled, i felt / heard a 'pop'. went to hospital and x-ray showed no break but was told i had torn my ulnar collateral ligament around my thumb. Its been a week since the injury and the swelling hasn't gone down at all also i'm having trouble gripping and the joint feels really unstably and loose but the doctor says there nothing to do about it but leave it.
Avatar n tn It has been about 2 weeks now since my wrist started hurting. The pain is on the thumb side of the wrist. It don't think it is a fracture because there is no swelling or discoloration. But it sure hurts a lot. When I wake up it hurts a lot - even for the slightest moment and then the range of motion improves as the day progresses. I am not sure if it is a a ligament tear.
Avatar f tn t swelling anymore. I still have pain in my hand, on the top of my hand (mostly between my thumb and pointer finger) and under my thumb on the side of my wrist and hand. It also aches on the opposite side of my hand. I am able to use my hand and wrist to do most things. My hand is still slightly swelling at night and I wake up with a stiff hand. I am noticing the most pain when my hand and wrist are at rest. Could I still have a fracture somewhere and not know it.
Avatar f tn Then last year I went to pick up my daughter having a temper tantrum on the floor and it felt like someone hit my hand with a hammer. I looked at my right hand and my middle finger was touching my thumb, the ligament visably over the nuckle! I put it back in place myself and soon as I closed my fist it went again. After a brace and weeks of therapy, it's now my "trick finger" with periocic cramping. I battled chronic fatigue, then elbow pain.
Avatar m tn There is a tendon at the base of your thumb, where the fleshy part is, that can get overused and swollen. It takes a good week of putting some ice on it for no more than 20 minutes at a time to help bring the inflammation down. It should feel better in no time if you rest it. I had a problem with mine when I was lifting weights. I just overused it. It tends to heal pretty fast if you take care of it. Hope that helps.
Avatar n tn His wrist has been hurting for about 4 days. 3 days ago, his thumb, index, and middle fingers started tingling. The next day his palm felt like it was going numb. Today his wrist feels better but now his hand is swollen. Any ideas? I've tried telling him to go to the doc but he's stubborn as hell. Lol.
Avatar m tn Yesterday I woke up and my hand (right little finger & finger next to it) hurt. I believe I slept with my fingers curled up tightly and thought it would just go away. But hurt all day and today it is swollen from little finger down along the outside of my hand and pain is much worse. I didn't hit my hand, so do not hink it is a broken bone....but I've had a broken thumb previously and pain & swelling are similar. Help!!!
Avatar f tn Since you have pain right up to your fingers, you could be suffering from Scalene Myofascial Pain Syndrome. When scalene muscle is the cause of pain, the pain is referred from neck to (either all or a combination of) chest, inner lining of scapula (shoulder bone), shoulder, posterior and lateral sides of the arm right up to the thumb and index finger.
Avatar m tn I was not and nor in any pain during the entire inccident and my fingers/wrist/thumb are free to move. The only problem is my thumb is kind of sluggish due to the swelling which makes me think i dislocated it. And that lump I keep pushing back in is still out. " the lump in wrist does not move, i can just push it in" If it was a torn tendon or ligament...I wouldnt be able to move my wrist/fingers/hand or anything right??
1216952 tn?1283675247 The most important thing is to avoid exerting your thumb at your work place. Get an MRI done and diagnose any tendon or ligament problems properly. Give adequate rest to your thumb and then follow up with regular physiotherapy and strengthening exercises. With time and persistent physiotherapy you will improve or else discuss with an orthopedician for surgical intervention. Take care!
Avatar n tn High-grade/near full-thickness tear of the MCP ulnar collateral ligament from the base of thumb, involving both proper and accessory bands.
Avatar f tn coz i m having evrythng from leg cramps to nose congestion then there is this pelvis pressure pain that is almost killing me each night. sleepless nights uncomfortable days.. hormones emotions all over the place.. weeping even over a strange stare evrythng! dnt knw wat is this carpal tunnel but i m sure i have this too.. lol!! btw m 31+5 wks!
Avatar m tn The mobility is pretty much there with a tiny bit of discomfort on the inside of my thumb at full bend. My thumb seems stable. My biggest concern is this bump at the base of my thumb. I fear it maybe an avulsion fracture. I am scheduling an appointment with an orthopedic next week, but I wanted to see if anyone had advice or experiences with this or what it sounds like. I dont know if you can have an avulsion fracture without tearing the ligament.
Avatar f tn Did you ask your doc about the pains you have had .. could also be round ligament pain. If you havent told the doc I'd make an appointment. You may have to have vaginal swabs to rule out other infections.
Avatar f tn hi a couple of years ago my dad was trying to open a wine bootle and by mistake some of the glass of the neck of the bottle cut his ligament in his thumb. Ever since he cannot move his thumb and the wrinkles on the joint of the thumb have disappeared. He doesn't usually go to doctors but if he goes what can they do about it and will it ever be back to normal? My dad says it will need surgery and if possible how much will it cost?
Avatar m tn ligament, but I did a google research about it and one of the major symptoms of it is pain. The problem is that i dont have pain, just severe numbness on the palmar side of the hands including the first 3 1/2 of fingers. I did MRI for my neck two days ago and everything seemed fine. Could it still be Struthers' ligament? Any conservative treatments?
Avatar f tn so I'm 33 weeks pregnant with my baby boy, and I'm pretty sure i just lost my mucus plug! Or part of it! It was a lump about as bit as the top part of my thumb. No blood or anything in it, but it looked like discharge. Just a big blob of it. Sorry for tmi I'm just worried, I'm not sure weather to go and get checked out or not?
Avatar f tn If no contraindication NSAIDs such as ibuprofen can be used to treat the pain of carpal tunnel. If indicated, surgical release of the carpal ligament at the wrist is often performed. Again, I would follow up with your local physician/neurologist to discuss further. Thank you for this opportunity to answer your questions, I hope you find the information I have provided useful, good luck.
736040 tn?1257436457 it sounds like Carpal Tunnel Syndrome to me. Do the pops feel like someone pulled and let go of a guitar string? not sure if that makes sense but I get that sensation. Also, if you tap on the inside of your srist, almost the heel of your hand (by the palm) and pain shoots into your middle finger & first finger & thumb, there is a good chance that it's CTS. that is a test they do for CTS.
