A clicking sound in a joint along with pain is a sign of arthritis. It can be rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, gout or a reactive arthritis to a drug or infection. You will need an X-ray of the joint along with other tests like RA factor and test for gout. Do discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined. Take care!
I have been having pain in my right thumb for the last 2 years. The only way I can describe it is a constant soreness. I have been to numerous doctors including neurologists, orthopedists and hand surgeons. Tests done include 2 nerve conductions, nerve block, mri on thumb, wrist and spinal cord, x-ray on hand and a ultrasound. None of them have been able to diagnose what the problem is. Is there anything else that could be causing this pain?
I can't find any information about the thumb pip joint except injury. It doesn't really fit gout or pseudogout symptoms because the intensity of the pain isn't great enough among other things. Has anybody experienced something like this without an injury?

I was mis-diagnosed with lupus last year complaining of pain in my hands and feet which is going on for about 2yrs at least. My pain is based in my knukles and the balls of my feet. The worst effected areas are my index fingers and old injuries, broken toe and sprined thumb. Its always bad in the morning and slowly disappears as the day progresses. I have very poor circulation in my hands and feet also. Could this be carpal tunnel syndrom and tarsal tunnel syndrome?
Mon 9 year old son just started having a burning sensation on the thumb side of the index fingers. Its happened a few of times. It seemed to help, but the pain is already back and stronger than ever. Now I have a cold, wet feeling in my thumb. I grabbed a random photo off the Net and circled the place as to where I feel that sort of feeling. I never had the feeling before. I'm also limited on my mobility and my right ankle is pretty swelled up as well. They said that was part of the Fibromyalgia, but I don't know... they said that there was no inflammation or broken bones when they took X-Rays.
I have severe pain in my right thumb. X-ray showed no broken bones. There is no power when I squeeze my thumb to my pinky. What do I do next? What can it be? No trauma. Thank you.
If it is carpel then the pain should be in the thumb, index finger and middle finger area of your hand. If it is the outside two fingers of your hand then it would suggest the ulnar nerve. Considering you experience it in arm, feet, legs; I would suggest talking to your doctor and let them lead you in the right direction for testing and diagnosis.
Several days later the pain and swelling persists.A couple of days later the same thing happened to the thumb of the same hand. The pain is localised in the pad of tissue at the base of the thumb. Bending the thumb results in intense pain.
Hi! The thumb pain can be a part of the multiple joint pathology. The other possibilities are rheumatoid arthritis, gout, reactive arthritis, osteoarthritis, bursitis or inflammation of the lining of the joint. Since you work a lot with your hands you could also have injured a muscle or a tendon or there could also have been a superficial nerve injury. I know I have listed a number of conditions. However, a confirmed diagnosis is not possible on net.
Symptoms begin with either numbness and tingling of the first three or two fingers from the thumb side or by just pain. Usually there is no swelling. Treatment is usually by splints and steroid injections. Surgery may be required in some cases. It could also be rheumatoid arthritis, gout or tendonitis. However all these would also cause some inflammation and swelling. Please consult an orthopedic specialist. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted.
It was fine one day and then the next morning I woke up in severe pain. Sometimes the pain is going all the way up into my elbow and my arm from wrist to elbow hurts, sometimes it just shoots up to my elbow, but most of the time it is just in my wrist and it hurts really bad regardless of what I'm doing. I can be laying in bed to go to sleep and it hurts or trying to do something that requires use of my hand.
Every now and then, I get strange joint pain. I'm 18, healthy, active. I'm not sure what could be wrong. Last summer, I had a few areas that, one by one right after another, would just ache for a few days. It's happened here and there since then but these last few weeks have been miserable for me. I'm a housekeeper at an Alzheimer's home so I'm always busy, always on my feet. I began to have a soreness in my left big toe. It caused a limp, as the pain in my feet have seemed to be the worst.
I have been in pain for over 28 years. with back pain swollen joints, and fatigue. The military doctors wanted me to alway see a shrink the pain and other symtoms are not in my mind. It is real, and now the VA is treating me for it. To all of you out there fight for the test and don't take the mental route unless you feel depress. With the pain you should feel depress. Soory for typing, but I have trouble with the hands. Good luck and keep fighting to find some relief.
Then I have to take a break. This year I start off with a gout attack that was out this world and essentially had it for 6months.. I was told it had alot to do with the protein shakes so I cut those out. It took a while but the gout is gone from the toe, but I started having alot of issues with my ankles and wrists. I thought it was gout and but there is never any redness or swelling, would just feel like I broke or sprained my ankle by walking to the backyard.
I hope I am in the right section I did not see anything for just pain. I just started recently started waking up in the middle of the night with a horrible stabbing pain on the top of my left foot. Well, joint pains with rash can also be seen in SLE, psoriatic arthritis, fibromyalgia, polymayalgia rheumatica and chronic fatigue syndrome. Gout, though typically affects the great toe, can cause thumb pain and swelling along with a rash. Hashimotos Thyroiditis is another possibility. Hayfever and rheumatoid arthritis too should also be ruled out. Another possibility is reactive arthritis, which could have occurred in reaction to something—in this case rash.
Using Google just brings back information on Spider / Varicose Veins no matter which word variation I seem to use. For nearly a year, I'd get this shocking pain around my inner right ankle. My natural reaction was to look at it, and every time theres a vein (typically unseen) that will bulge out and appears to be about as big around as a pencil. The pain doesn't last too long, sometimes 5 minutes sometimes longer. It happens while walking, sitting, standing, lying down, etc.
I've been experiencing joint pain, stiffness & swelling for years now.. As of the past year other symptoms have cropped up: itchy round rash on my leg & hand that consist of tiny blood spots, night sweats, chest & back pain, extreme fatigue & confusion..Also lil lines of blood under nailbeds.. Been to several Docs.. Symptoms confirmed..Blood tests, x rays, confirm nothing..Not Lupus, RA, Fibro, Diabetes or infection; bacterial, viral or std or otherwise.
When she writes in school she experinces alot of pain in her hand and arm. The pain is mostly in her wrist area, but it also goes up her right arm. It is so severe that it is to the point that her right arm gets so tired she cannot even write. She had lyme diease when she 11 and this effected her memory as well resulted in really bad headaches. She is now 15 years old and no doctor has been able to figure out what is causing the pain in her right arm and hand.
Other differential diagnosis would include carpal tunnel syndrome, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, or gout of first metacarapal-phallengeal joint. Take a second opinion and see. An X-ray of the thumb joint, MRI of thumb and wrist, RA factor, thyroid panel, clinical examination, etc will be required for a confirmed diagnosis. Consult an orthopedic specialist. Take care!
I am a 68 yr. old male that has had what started out as pain in my shoulders, Pain for a day or two in one then pain in the other for a day or two, back and forth, and only at night, as soon as the sun would go down the pain will start and it will be over it by 9AM or so. Now it has started going to other joints, but only to certain joints not all, and not all at the same time, middle finger, thumb, left knee, right or left shoulder, left wrist.
I was told it cannot be rotator cuff disease since one usually cannot move their arm without extreme pain. My pain doesn't happen when I push on any areas, nor does it get worse when I move my arm and shoulder in any ways. It's like a deep, dull aching and burning, especially when in use. If anyone can advise me on what to do next, or have any clues on what it could be, I would be grateful to hear your input. I'm driving my family crazy with being anxious and scared.
I have suffered on & off for years with this. X ray & examination showed nothing. I am fit & healthy normally. It can be gone for years & then come back & stay for months. The pain is very sharp & brief & then goes without leaving any pain behind. It makes my eyes water the pain is so sharp. No rhyme or reason for the attacks.................. Anyone, any Ideas!!!!!
I have had moderate to severe joint pain since April, and was recently diagnosed with Parvovirus B19. Apparently the virus can cause severe Arthralgia that lasts upto 9 months. On good days my pain level is at a 3. On bad days it will go upto a 6/7. Yesterday I stepped on a metal wire and it got stuck in my foot. The urgent care center recommended I get a tetanus shot, since I have not had one in over 10 years. I asked what the side effects were, and they said my arm would be a little sore.
