Thumb pain from texting

Common Questions and Answers about Thumb pain from texting

finger

Avatar m tn There is no pain when it happens and it will happen any time of the day and twitch uncontrolably for anywhere from 10 minutes to over an hour. It seems to be twitching inbetween my thumb and index finger in that groove and on the inside of my thumb. What could be causing this?
903476 tn?1242237037 My other issues would have not caused joint pain no one ever got arthritis from asthma. But the pain has got from 0 to 60 literally over night and now my whole arm is hurting but I think it's just cuz I'm trying not to move it around to much to not aggravate my thumb. There is only very slight swelling it's so slight it took me a few hours to even notice it was swelling there is no discolouration or feeling warm to the touch.
Avatar m tn burning/stinging sensation on the back of both hands when writing, holding a book or using computer mouse, searing tricep pain and shooting stinging pain from hands into forearms and shoulders (not exactly a straight traveling pain but more diffuse through arm when using fingers for typing, texting or holding things. All symptoms bilateral. Nov: saw internist who suspected cervical disk/nerve issue. MRI of neck showed only minor hypertrophy.
Avatar n tn It hurts when I first use my thumb and seems to die down but has intermittent flares with continued use. I chalked it up to texting thumb. So that's where I am right now. Scared out of my mind wondering if I have initial ALS symptoms. 20 years in the service with no fear (not deployed to the gulf so I think I'm sheltered form the higher risk). )Now with kids, my obsessive need to be a good provider has given me a health anxiety disorder.
Avatar f tn we do tend to blame everything that happens to us on our wd...and like allmary said..it is probably not even related...if it persists i would get it checked..other than that i would enjoy my kids and ur freedom from the pills..
Avatar f tn I too have the problem on the top of my thumb. Only one thumb. Always the same thumb. My dermatologist said it was eczema and gave me a script for a steroid cream betamethasone I believe. It does help some but I have to use it every night. He also said to wrap it in Saran Wrap after I apply the cream. I have not found that helpful at all. I am a nurse and I wash my hands a lot and wear the non latex gloves.
Avatar m tn As I was typing on my computer I noticed that my right thumb was shaking and it got me worried. It only shakes if I bend it at a 90degree angle but it is still very worrisome. About 3 hours ago I did scrub the bathtub and I thought that might have something to do with it but it has not stopped shaking in 3 hours.
Avatar f tn Posting this here because I'm not sure where else it would go. I have had severe pain and limited range of motion in the MCP joint of my right thumb for several months. I do not remember injuring it, and have been conservative with activities that may aggrivate it (ie texting). Finally went to a doctor and he told me it was a form of tendonitis (that interestingly enough, after some research, affects the basal joint and not the MCP joint). He gave me topical steroids and that was all.
Avatar n tn Poor computer ergonomics is a possibility.
Avatar f tn To the parents of children or adults with Down Syndrome, do you have any concerns with your child texting in terms of linguistics or appropriate responses? I am an occupational therapy student thinking about creating educational classes in my community.
Avatar n tn It was stiff from the splint at first but after a day or two I could move my thumb better, but it still hurt below the metacarpal joint when I pressed on it. So I went back to the dr, who said it would take time to get over the stiffness, also it didn't seem to hurt on the spot that day. That was 2 weeks ago, and this spot is still hurting enough that I'm worried. My thumb still hurts to bend across my palm, and to open thing that requires twisting. Could I have reinjuried it?
Avatar n tn small bump has arrisen on the area of the wrist where the thumb and wrist attach. painful to use thumb. can move thumb with other hand no pain. skin in this area also sentitive to touch. hard to grasp anything with right hand. I wear a small brace on this hand during day hours to be able to do my job.
Avatar f tn I have done the carpel tunnel wrist test positions that my general prac taught me when I was having neuropathy and urgent care tried to say it wa carpel tunnel. Anyways long story short, no pain when I do this position. Only pain when pressure is applied. I did nothing to injury it and I'm right handed so I'm unsure what to think of it. The only thing that is different is that i have been sick with a flu bug that turned into a cold. I don't have a fever anymore just congestion.
Avatar m tn My thumb is not bruised or swollen but I have shooting pain when I bend it. I can bend it all the way but it shoots pain and it hurts in between the two joints. I have tried icing and wrapping it but nothing has helped and it has been nine days. My hand is also very cold but like I said before it is not bruised or swollen.
Avatar f tn The dermatologist said my thumb was nothing and truth be told it was almost completely healed. My thumb itched (for a few days) but there was no pain. The dermatologist cultured my nose and it came back negative for bacteria and herpes, but since there was nothing to culture could not do so with my thumb. 1. Could an whitlow outbreak (if it was one) clear up that quickly and have no pain? 2. Would the culture results be accurate?
Avatar f tn for about a month now my rights thumb has been very cold all the time it never warms up,, on a part of my thumb where they hand meets it is very painful??? please tell me whats wrong??
Avatar n tn The pain feel like it shoots right through the nerve of my thumb and the palm feels almost like the pain from a bruise. Like if some were to punch you and it left a bruise and was really sore for a few days only it constantly feels like that. If I stretch all my fingers out then I can really feel it. It is also really sore when I try to bend the thumb or pinch anything between the thumb and index finger.
Avatar f tn s hard to stretch my thumb away from the hand and spread my fingers without it hurting.

1207048 tn?1282174304 Hi Jess, Well i was going to say i've blown a (the same one each time) vein in my hand a few times, exactly as you describe, near my middle finger webbing on my left hand, though i've assumed thats whats happened. Its the same hand that has the pinkie finger vein engorgement problem for the last year, and just recently the vein engorged in the finger next to my thumb so because of the vein engorgement, i really thought it had to be a blown vein.
Avatar f tn My hand was stuck in my coat pocket and when I fell I landed on it, palm side up. I now have pain on the palm side of my hand near my thumb. I can move my thumb using my other hand, but I can't stretch it out all the way from the rest of my fingers on its own. I don't have alot of swelling or discoloration. I does hurt more when its not elevated, and my hand feels a bit weak. Do I need xrays, or should I just ice it and wait a few days since there is no swelling?
Avatar f tn My doctor says the stabbing pain I get in the base of my thumb on the fleshy palm part is probably osteoarthritis, This came on quite suddenly several months ago - I had on occasions put my hand out to stop my elderly husband from tripping over. The joint at the base of the thumb is also quite swollen in a boney sort of way. I mainly get a short sharp stabbing pain on the fleshy part but on resting the hand it does not hurt that much. Could this be a ligament problem?
Avatar f tn I have stopped taking pain meds a few days ago because they seemed to create endless obstacles in my very hectic life. Before using I worked out regularly, but over the past four years I have stopped working out initially the pain meds gave me this rush of energy, but then I had to have them to function. I felt a little better today (well I got out of bed) and I decided to work out on my eliptical trainer. I only did it for like 15 minutes, but its a start I guess.
1792792 tn?1315355724 ve noticed that writing for a certain amount of time will bring pain (some times severe pain) to my wrist and thumb. Considering I live for writing and typing (how else am I going to write my stories), this gets very bothersome. I've tried wearing wrist braces (it was suggested by a few people) but then I just end up writing while wearing the brace and it gets pretty painful.
