Thumb pain from mouse use

Common Questions and Answers about Thumb pain from mouse use

finger

Avatar n tn I feel it is also finger specific, especially all my fingers other than my thumb and pinkie all of which I use to move the cursor. I am afraid I may have carpal tunnel. Please do suggest what to do now.
Avatar m tn This could be carpal tunnel syndrome due to entrapment of median nerve. it is caused by prolonged use of computer or thumb and index finger as in improper position of arm and wrist can result in mouse elbow. Application of ice pack, anti-inflammatory drugs, wearing wrist braces, stretching and strengthening exercises when the pain subsides and modification of the way you click mouse goes a long way in avoiding further injury and treating the present symptoms.
Avatar n tn It has been about 2 weeks now since my wrist started hurting. The pain is on the thumb side of the wrist. It don't think it is a fracture because there is no swelling or discoloration. But it sure hurts a lot. When I wake up it hurts a lot - even for the slightest moment and then the range of motion improves as the day progresses. I am not sure if it is a a ligament tear.
584818 tn?1218287801 40 year old healthy male. 195 pounds. Exercise fairly regularly. Eat a decent diet. I know you are thinking CT Syndrome right off the bat. The funny thing is, I actually switched to using my left hand for my computer mouse about 2 months ago. I cut back my computer use compared to months ago and years past. A couple of days ago when I woke up, my right hand had pain to make a fist and numbness in the index and ring finger. It would eventually go away and be fine all day.
Avatar n tn Symptoms begin with numbness and tingling of the first three or two fingers from the thumb side (twitch is also possible). Nerve conduction studies are quite diagnostic. Treatment is usually by splints and steroid injections. Surgery may be required in some cases. This condition is common in those who use the key board, mouse etc a lot—like in computers or in typing jobs. Please consult your PCP for primary examination followed by proper referral. Take care!
Avatar m tn Its a light scratch, some blood came to a surface to make a little red line, but no actual bleeding out or leak occurred. My question is after all this, could I get rabies from the mouse she had in her mouth prior to biting me? She has her shots, but Im worried if I could contract it because the mouse was just recently in her mouth (Im unsure if she managed to get any of its blood in her mouth or not) Thank you for your time and patience! I appreciate you helping me!!!
Avatar n tn m a graphic designer, recently graduated from college and just started my first job. Toward the end of college I occasionally got pain in my right wrist from computer-mouse use; ergonomics seemed to help, however my wrist got weaker over the summer. When I started my first full-time job in Sept, the pain became unbearable. My wrist is weak, I cannot do my hair, stir food on the stove, or put any pressure on that hand (no yoga, no push-ups).
Avatar f tn When I wake in the mornings, my left thumb and my 3 middle finger joints and thumb on my right hand hurts like mad. What can this be? I work in an office and use the keyboard and mouse constantly, can that be the reason this is happening? Is there some topical ointment I can rub on it to make the aching pain go away? If not, is there some oral medicine used to treat this kind of pain!! Thank you in advance for your help.
Avatar m tn I feel your pain! Literally! It is a specific burning sensation at the tip of the fingers and thumbs where they make contact with the device. However, I'm starting to think it has less to do with the screen than using wireless devices in general. When I use my wireless mouse with my computer it doesn't take long before my entire hand is burning on the skin! This only happens with wireless. I also have a mouse that is wired and I don't experience this problem.
Avatar n tn take milk not soy but regullar milk warm it up and smash the mouse food in it. Use a syringe until it can eat on its own and feed this to the mouse. I rescued 4 wild mice from the time they were still pinkies and raised them up. Also make sure and keep a heating pad on low under the cage to keep the baby warm.

Avatar f tn Very similar story, earlier elbow/arm,shoulder pain that disappeared, but no known injury and 62 year old female, use computer mouse, keyboard a lot. No pain in thumb, just doesn't work to bend last distal joint.in right thumb. Same story, first noticed with trying to use a lighter. First joint seems to work fine. Just thought it was a curious mystery "fluke" associated with age, and not a big deal. But I guess it's been about 5 weeks so wondering how others have fared.
Avatar n tn I believed I had Carpal tunnel syndrome because when I was writing i would get a shooting pain up and down ONLY my wrist area, and when on the computer when my right hand was using the mouse and resting on the desk at the same time, my wrist hurt too much to have any pressure on it.
Avatar m tn Symptoms begin with either numbness and tingling of the first three or two fingers from the thumb side or by just pain. Usually there is no swelling. Treatment is usually by splints and steroid injections. Surgery may be required in some cases. It could also be rheumatoid arthritis, gout or tendonitis. However all these would also cause some inflammation and swelling. Please consult an orthopedic specialist. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted.
Avatar n tn And when you are on the computer, you use your mouse of corse. And your thumb sweats a lot right? and your whole hand may sweat a lot. Almost every time you get on the pc huh? If the answer is yes, I will tell you why this is happening to your thumb. And no it is not from the sweat alone.
Avatar m tn Wrist Tendonitis (DeQuervains Tendonitis) can be defined as an irritation and swelling of the sheath or tunnel which surrounds the tendons of the thumb. 15934705 tn?1444072890 Female, 32. I do have a history of inflammatory arthritis, but it is not a joint pain. Pain level, when not moving at all: 2 (just tender); when moving thumb 6 (medium sharp pain); when touching the area 7 (pretty high up there). I was peeling potatoes last night for dinner and at some point started feeling forearm pain. I finished through the pain thinking it would go away after. Woke up today with even worse pain.
Avatar m tn I plkay the piano, and type constantly on my laptop, and I use the thumb for these things. But I guess there is something more specific I could do to try and bring the thumb back to normal. Incidentally it is only the side and tip of the thumb I cannot feel. The other side is ok. Thanks in anticipation of your help.

903476 tn?1242237037 My other issues would have not caused joint pain no one ever got arthritis from asthma. But the pain has got from 0 to 60 literally over night and now my whole arm is hurting but I think it's just cuz I'm trying not to move it around to much to not aggravate my thumb. There is only very slight swelling it's so slight it took me a few hours to even notice it was swelling there is no discolouration or feeling warm to the touch.
Avatar n tn small bump has arrisen on the area of the wrist where the thumb and wrist attach. painful to use thumb. can move thumb with other hand no pain. skin in this area also sentitive to touch. hard to grasp anything with right hand. I wear a small brace on this hand during day hours to be able to do my job.
Avatar m tn I also tend to push on my thumb and pinkie in locked extended position with the use of a turbo mouse. The pain got so bad I thought I was going to have to give up my work in graphic design. I have tried everything except surgery. I did one Cortizone shot and it abated the pain for about 2-3 months. Hand massage and stretching helped a little. Took some meds, mainly for the inflammation, but was not interested in masking the pain.
Avatar m tn burning/stinging sensation on the back of both hands when writing, holding a book or using computer mouse, searing tricep pain and shooting stinging pain from hands into forearms and shoulders (not exactly a straight traveling pain but more diffuse through arm when using fingers for typing, texting or holding things. All symptoms bilateral. Nov: saw internist who suspected cervical disk/nerve issue. MRI of neck showed only minor hypertrophy.
Avatar m tn When scalene muscle is the cause of pain, the pain is referred to chest, inner lining of scapula (shoulder bone), shoulder, posterior and lateral sides of the arm right up to the thumb and index finger. Repeated clicking of mouse of computer can injure the tendon of index, cause compression of median nerve and also cause this numbness. Please consult your PCP for primary examination followed by proper referral. Take care!

Try these tips. Maybe you should consult an occupational therapist and lean proper use of mouse, key pad and proper positioning of body while using computers. Physiotherapy will go a long way in improving your condition.
Avatar n tn m a freelance photographer and I routinely use computers (with a mouse and not a tablet) for digital processing of my files. Might this a result of a pinched nerve or some other severe case of carpal tunnel? Although I have ample strength, this is getting to be quite discomforting and almost painful. Thanks again for your help!
