Thumb pain during pregnancy

Common Questions and Answers about Thumb pain during pregnancy

finger

Avatar n tn The thumb, middle, index and half of the ring finger become numb, have tingling sensation or pain during pregnancy because the carpal tunnel at the wrist, through which nerves run, swells during pregnancy. The pressure causes these symptoms which could also spread to the hand, wrist and arm. The symptoms will go away after delivery. Meanwhile you could keep the arms raised on pillow at night.

1472764 tn?1287588186 The general rule of thumb is to stick to what your body is used to. So if you always excercised alot, it's fine, although as things progress you might want to tone it down a bit. However, mid pregnancy is not the time to start anything strenous..lol. Just listen to your body, and you'll be fine.

903476 tn?1242237037 Very helpful thank you, I did go see a doctor and shes 99% sure it's tendonitis and this is just the first time it has ever become inflamed. She has has sent me for X-rays I will be getting tomorrow and she wants me to see a physiotherapist. She wont tell me 100% till she runs more tests but between the ice and heat sand of course the Tylenol the pain is gone but now I'm feeling pain in my left thumb.
Avatar f tn I have done the carpel tunnel wrist test positions that my general prac taught me when I was having neuropathy and urgent care tried to say it wa carpel tunnel. Anyways long story short, no pain when I do this position. Only pain when pressure is applied. I did nothing to injury it and I'm right handed so I'm unsure what to think of it. The only thing that is different is that i have been sick with a flu bug that turned into a cold. I don't have a fever anymore just congestion.
Avatar m tn My thumb is not bruised or swollen but I have shooting pain when I bend it. I can bend it all the way but it shoots pain and it hurts in between the two joints. I have tried icing and wrapping it but nothing has helped and it has been nine days. My hand is also very cold but like I said before it is not bruised or swollen.
Avatar n tn I had the same concerns during my first trimester. i had alot of cramping like period pain and also in my legs. It is the uterus stretching to compensate for the little one growing. I had minimal morning sickness but I had and still do get a lot of headaches. I was told paracetemol based pain killer is ok (as least as possible) also. Im in Australia and I use panadol if I need too. Massage is also really helpful. I also see a pregnancy specialist chiropracter and that helps alot too.
Avatar f tn Is your thumb, index, and middle finger numb?
4093350 tn?1358096154 So my 'pregnancy bible'- What to Expect When You're Expecting, says to be careful when massaging ankles. Online it also talks about the wrists, area between thumb & pointer finger and lower back. Well today i was lightly massaging wrists because they hurt after a long at office on keyboard. Any my hubby also rubs my lower back for me. Had an injury before i was preggo and sometimes it just needs a little massage. My question is am i doing/did harm?
Avatar f tn I had that pain off and on. I had called the Dr and since I wasn't bleeding and my pain was almost like period cramps I was told to keep drinking lots of water stay off my feet on bed rest and take a full dose of Tylenol.

Avatar n tn I have been having pain in my right thumb for the last 2 years. The only way I can describe it is a constant soreness. I have been to numerous doctors including neurologists, orthopedists and hand surgeons. Tests done include 2 nerve conductions, nerve block, mri on thumb, wrist and spinal cord, x-ray on hand and a ultrasound. None of them have been able to diagnose what the problem is. Is there anything else that could be causing this pain?
Avatar f tn Has anyone developed Carpal tunnel or any other wrist pain during pregnancy? Ive had such an easy pregnancy but lately my thumb and wrist have been aching really bad. I heard its common to get in pregnancy.
Avatar f tn My second one was a 3d and I had it done at 16 weeks to find out the gender. My daughter was sucking her thumb during this ultra sound, it was so neat and very heart warming. The dvd is something I will always cherish.
Avatar f tn I know by now you may have resolved this issue, but after my first child, I had this kind of pain and it turned out to be pregnancy induced tendonitis. A hand doctor gave me a shot in each of the wrists and the pain went away in a few days.

1173196 tn?1292916490 Can you describe the location or character of the headaches that you are experience? Headaches are indeed commonly associated with hormonal changes especially during pregnancy. If you did not experience this in your other pregnancies, this is because each pregnancy is different from each other. Often, the degree of variation has to do with the level of the pregnancy hormone in your body. Nausea and vomiting are often associated with migraine headaches.
Avatar f tn I have had this pain for a month so I asked my ob/gyn & he took his thumb & first finger & pushed down on each side of my vagina & asked me if I felt it I said yeah so he told me it was her head, so it could be baby pushing down. that's what he said mine was from.
Avatar n tn I have fibroid pain. It's a little different. ...but pain still involved. I deal with a chronic pain from it. If I run out of blood supply to it, it will be excruciating. When in doubt, check it out is a good rule of thumb. Follow your gut. My first pregnancy with the fibroid I felt like I was always in the dr or hospital because of issues. This is an easier pregnancy this time plus I know now what us what, and if I dont, I ask. Feel free to talk to your dr or whoever is on call.
