It was like I swallowed down my windpipe, and it took a minute or two to clear my throat and get back to normal swallowing and breathing. Since then I've had multiple episodes where I go to swallow food or water, and feel like the same thing is going to happen. Only once did I actually get food stuck in my throat, but I was able to bring it back up immediately and then swallow normally.
He did an ultrasound and said that the thyroid was enlarged, but not to worry. Every time I tell him about my throat and swallowing problem, he says that it is nothing to worry about. Should I be seeing a specialist?

It is really stressing me out. I have trouble swallowing my saliva as well as food. I feel like I have a lump in my throat and that I really have to push and make an effort to pass saliva and food.
Its not something that has just happend now. In 2007 I also had some issues and went to the ER, the doctor had a look, asked me to swallow and drink water and said that it was normal.
The chest pain and trouble in swallowing could be due to gastric reflux. Another possibility is hiatal hernia, where a portion of stomach herniates into the chest cavity through the diaphragm. Both can be diagnosed by an endoscopy. Crohn’s disease and IBS too often cause nonspecific pains. Also along with gastric reflux and hiatal hernia, ask your doctor to rule out diabetes and hypothyroidism.

t hurt when i swallow nor do i have trouble swallowing. The pain is coming from left side and i sometimes feel it on the right side though not as often as the left where i first felt it. Could it still the bronchitis? I hope...
If she is on inhalers for the Asthma, check to see if there is a fungal infection in the throat, this could cause problems with swallowing. Difficulty swallowing can also happen due to iron deficiency anemia causing Plummer-Vinson syndrome, where there changes to the soft lining of the throat. This can be detected by a simple blood test. Please discuss this with your doctor am sure he will provide further assistance.

Sometimes for the last couple years, I have had trouble swallowing my saliva. I have asked my friends if they ever experience this, but nobody seems to experience this ever. It only happens to me sporadically but unless I drink something then i absolutely cannot swallow my own saliva. It is literally impossible. Does anybody know what this is?
m guessing they forced the probe down my throat because I have trouble swallowing even big vitamins (I would sometimes regurgitate on prenatal pills). I'm at my wits' end, anyone go through this? Any advice?
Your symptoms of pain should be relieved by this (if this is the case). Many people with severe reflux describe trouble swallowing as well (muscles in the throat can get irritated and spasm). If this does not work, you'll need to go in and have your throat looked at.
less trouble swallowing but still having a bit of trouble. a bit of throat pain, throat tightness, and it feels heavy. i have pressured burping and liquid regurtation. i am still constant clearing throat saliva. i am currently taking pantoprazole alone for gastric reflux and its not helping at all. I think the postnasal drip is causing all this problem. i dont think i have acid reflux. what do you think? i appreciate your help alot. I have been sick with sinus problem for almost a year.
Hi, i have acid reflux and a small hiatus hernia. I'm on Zoton fastabs since Jan. My symptom is trouble swallowing, things are a little better since taking the PPI'S but i still have a lot of trouble swallowing liquids. My question is how is the acid reflux and the hiatus hernia causing my swallowing problems? I have looked online but can't find an exact cause.

sometimes at work when im talking to my customers i get it in my head that i cant swallow. i always feel that i need to be drinking water so my throat will be wet.
when i go out in public and eat i feel like i wont be able to swallow my food, like i have to force it down.
my throat is fine though its all in my head. anyone else suffer?
i agree with stella, i have nodules and enlargement of the gland and i get quite a bit of neck/throat pain and trouble swallowing at times, like you need to chew your food to oblivion otherwise it won't fit down your throat.
