In my last pregnancy my Dr recommended a high dose of vitamin C for 2-3 days. 2000-3000mg each day to boost the immune system.I had a cold hang around for four months of pregnancy, and it helped my body recover finally! your body pees out what it can't absorb so it's safe, but don't do it for more than 4 days, you can end up with a sore tongue /mouth.

My son HATES taking RX cough medicine but loves this stuff because it has no taste what-so-ever! I get mine at a health food store or an organic pharmacy.

Homemade chicken soup with lots of lemon, hot tea with lemon and honey, salt water gargle, straight up lemon honey and a little bit of water syrup :( it's helped a bit but im undecided whether to make a doctor appointment or not. It is not as bad as before when I could barely stand, but it is still there, and the fact that the pain is still there means I still have a fungal infection. Recently, my doctor said I have a candida infection, and gave me Diflucan (flucanozole) to take for 10 days. I just finished it and there was no apparent effect. Now, I'm not so sure it is a fungal infection. Urine and blood analyses done back in August showed no bacteria in the blood or urine. Could it still be a bacterial infection?
The main thing to remember to do is to keep your throat moist - a most throat won't feel as sore and scratchy as a dry throat will and a dry throat is more likely to cause coughing, which will further irritate your throat. If the sore throat is caused by a bacterial infection such as strep, the above home remedies will still provide relief from pain, but like with a virus, it won't get rid of the bacteria causing the infection and in order to do that, you will need an antibiotic.
I also had thick discolored mucus, started out orange, to yellow, to green. I never had this as well. After, 6 days it wasn't getting better with home remedies so I called my PCP, he said it was just a cold/flu and to give it time. Well, the next day I couldn't stand it anymore and went to a different PCP and he said I had a throat infection and prescribed me Augmentin 875 mg. Immediately I felt better and all my symptoms went away.
My 11 year old son has been having problems with throat clearing and making noises in his throat when eating. His began last fall after a throat infection. He had repeated tonsillitis over the next few months and the throat noises were constant. We had his tonsils out in December and the throat clearing and noises stopped instantly.
The mucous sliding down the back of my throat is still everpresent, and causes me to constantly clear my throat, which oftentimes triggers a coughing episode, though the coughing has subsided considerably. Since my daughter recently had a c-section and has two other children, she's needed me to help her and I'm afraid to go anywhere near the newborn, not knowing if this mucous thing with the accompanying cough is contagious or not.
my throat is giving me awful problems lately had 1 tonsil out 3 months ago and still 1 there bled 2 much so stoped operation i have being on antibiotics the last month nearly for infection and steroids to bring down flamed throat.
For about a year now, it feels like I have phlegm/mucus stuck in my throat and can't completely clear my throat. Also when I cough, its a lil wet and there is phlegm. When I started to have the problem, I went to the doc and he said it just may be sinuses and sent me on my way... but never went away. I went to the doc while I was in Basic Training in SC... then went to GA for 4 months... back to FL for a few months (where i use to live) and now I am in NC....
) I've been reading a number of posts here, in the archives, about phlegm in the throat. I have phlegm in the back of my throat all the time. I'm certain this is contributing to my snoring. One extremely helpful post said that constant phlegm in the throat is comes from congestion that is above or below your throat. If the congestion is in the chest this could be due to asthma. I'm not asthmatic, I don't smoke or live with a smoker, so that's out.
thanks for your response. it could very well be strep as i have spent all day online researching the posibilities visa vie the symptoms .. but in truth, seems like it could be 3-4 other things based on my recent activies. one thing about the body aches .. i havent had the flu lately .. in fact in more than half a year .. so its highly doubtful that the body aches are being caused by that .. but its also possible that the body aches are being caused by something altogether different.
He said the infection was gone, but that I still had postnasal drip and that this explained the spots on my throat as well as the congested ears. So he prescribed Fexofenadine and some ear drops and sent me back on my way. That brings us to the present. I haven't taken the meds very well as they keep me from sleeping well and just make me feel weird. So, admittedly, the fact that the symptoms are persisting could very well be my own fault.
Treatment includes cough suppressants, a trial therapy with bronchodilators, avoiding triggering factors, and available home remedies like use of honey and echinacea. I suggest you to consult physician specialized in respiratory medicine for evaluation and prescription and above drugs. Take care and regards.
It would be a good idea to see your doctor to rule out asthma or a throat infection. Make sure you drink plenty of water. Won't stop it, but it keeps you and your throat hydrated and gets rid of any irritant in your throat. Best wishes.
It started with a sore throat and headache and pain in his sinus region as well as phlem in the back of the throat and a cough started. Do you have a cough. After the 3rd attack, I nursed him back to health with plenty of bed rest, 4,000mg of Vitamin C per day, home-made turkey soup and plenty of juicy fruits like citrus (oranges and lemons; the lemon was squeezed in his herbal tea) and berries (strawberries, blueberries..etc).
Do consult your family physician if these home remedies do not help. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
