Avatar n tn My husband has/ had throat cancer. He went through kemo and radiation. He is going to tested Fri. to see if treatment worked. He still has very bad breath. Also 2 other spots have shown up too. He also has a large lump on his leg.
Avatar n tn Hi. Since your relative was diagnosed with throat cancer fifteen years ago, I'm assuming that the radiation therapy was also completed around that time (or at least more than ten years ago). If this is the case, then the personality changes you observed starting two years ago cannot be attributed to the radiotherapy. I also don't think it is proper to label your kin's condition as "dementia" at this time.
Avatar n tn I would say not to worry about oral hpv, the main reason being the high-risk strains those live on genital areas do not like the oral enviornment and they do not survive well in there... Further, the throat cancer due to hpv is extremely low to rare and hpv is not the major cause of throat cancer but it can be a causitive factor... the tobacco use is the major cause of throat cancer...
Avatar n tn There are theories. Most of them are linked to Radiation/x-ray exposure. No one knows why one person who's exposed gets thyroid cancer, and one does not. Even people who have had no expose can get throid cancer. It's just not definitive.
Avatar f tn What are the chances of getting cancer from radiation...or is getting the scan more important? I am just so scared of getting another one after about 6 within the last year. Please help me on deciding?
Avatar f tn She found out Friday she is pregnant. She recently had a lot of cancer removed from her throat. She has an appointment coming up to tell her if she will need radiation. Has anyone ever been through this? Her gp has said that there are options. She did not fall pregnant on purpose but she has desperately wanted kids for so long, and she knows she may have to have an abortion. Any way I can help her through this? Just any info would be good.
Avatar f tn I have had an enlarged lymph node in my neck (under jaw line between cheek and ear) for at least ten years, probably closer to 15 years. It came about after a bout of either strep throat or mononucleosis and when I asked my then doctor (at Kaiser Permanente) about it, he responded that it was scar tissue from an infection. It has never decreased in size and only increases slightly in size when I'm sick with a sore throat or tonsilitis.
Avatar n tn my husband has developed skin nodules on his throat, above his stoma, after he had radiation, chemo and eventually a total larangetomy. The 1st one was removed and it was cancerous, now he has 2 more and they seemed to attach to each other.
Avatar f tn My worry is that for around 4 weeks now, I have had a tickly cough and occassional hoarsness with need to clear throat. I am terrified that all the radiation I had 18 months ago, has caused me to get lung cancer. Could this be possible? I don't want to go to my GP for another chest x-ray, unless I really need it. Having had a lot of tests in the past, I want to limit any more. I am an ex-smoker.
Avatar n tn Hi. During radiation treatment, the mouth and throat would produce less saliva, and would tend to be dry and develop ulcerations. Eating and swallowing might become difficult as the treatment progresses. So you need to ask your doctor about this possible complication beforehand, and if there is a need to do PEG (percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy) tube insertion while your dad is undergoing treatment to enable him to eat adequately.
Avatar f tn Hello - I woke up yesterday with a sore throat and generally feeling yucky. Today I have the beginnings of what feels like a cold coming on - sore throat, runny nose, sneezing, fatigue, and low fever. :( I'm scheduled to fly out in a few days to visit my aunt who has cancer and has been receiving radiation/chemo and was recently given 2-4 months to live. I am concerned that I may be contagious and therefore may be a risk to visit her.
701810 tn?1230692075 It is very sad and has affected many members of our family who have and have had cancer. There needs to be more cancer research so that radiation is not the future treatment so others do not have to go through this.
Avatar f tn Two years ago my throat Doctor found a small nodule in my thyroid, but it was not of concern at the time. She asked to monitor it after 3 months. I ignored it since she stated that many people has it. Two year after, I did a follow up to see if it grew since lately I been clearing my throat constantly, getting sore throats, can't breath, I been getting throat spasm and a lot of caugh as If was choking contantly.
Avatar n tn I am so sorry for your sister this is hard to face, and a harder decision to make, my daughter had a growth on her neck 5 years ago, they cut her from throat toback of hip.
Avatar m tn Though frequent radiation exposure may be lead to radiation sickness but it has some limitations on the amount of radiation you have been exposed to in a given time. The standards are as following- 1.In radiation terminology, rad is a unit of absorbed dose and a rem is a unit of any radiation dose to body tissue in terms to its biological effect.Roentgen(R) refers to amount of radiation dose delivered to the body. 2.Routine chest X-rays delivers 0.1-0.2 rem per exposure and final limitation is 1.
Avatar n tn In another week, I wll start 6 weeks of radiation after a lumpectomy for DCIS. Radiation oncologist told me the more common side effects are fatigue and developing a sunburn on the skin, usually about 3 weeks into the treatment. He also said that some there will be some radiation exposure to some ribs and a small portion of the lung - unavoidable.
Avatar n tn Hi, First of all, I've read all of your previous postings on the subject of HPV and they have been very helprul...thank you. I am a 40-year old single male, and last spring I was diagnosed and treated (Chemo & radiation) for HPV-positive oropharyngeal cancer. Thankfully, my recent PET scan showed a complete response to treatment & no evidence of disease. Since my diagnosis would mean I've had a persistent infection, what do you recommend in terms of safety for future partners?
Avatar f tn I'm a 25 year old female and had a whole body ct scan which included a calcium scoring. It's a long story why but, have I had too much radiation? Will i get cancer in the future. Please be honest i'm a little worried.
2023801 tn?1333929758 Great that its he has no cancer. So how much radiation was given to him. I am worried of the radiation side affects for cancer for a normal CT scan on head and neck. I had twice one in 2018 and one in 2019.
Avatar f tn He told us about two days after telling us about him having cancer that he had a lymph node removed from his neck about a year or year and a half ago and it containted cancer. I asked him if he did chemo and he said no. He told me they removed by going down his throat as an outpatient procedure because the dr said they dont cut them out because the air will hit the node and the cancer will spread.
1067423 tn?1267740670 Has anyone or known anyone who DID NOT go to radiation after their lumpectomy? I already had my chemo. I was marked yesterday, and I don't know why, if my margins are clear, why should I go through with it.Even the radiologist says, it isn't going to prolong anything. I think I am just gettting tired from the whole "cancer journey".
Avatar n tn Unfortunately the Mucinex made me ill and was wondering what else I can do to thin out the mucus. My concern is that I did have throat cancer two years ago with radiation treatment. That started with a hoarse voice. I have been waiting for 2 months for a referral to a different ENT. Going to the doctors takes at least one month to get an appointment. Any suggestions would really be helpful. Will nose spray like Floronase help?
Avatar m tn Had lump removed 8/22/2012. Moderatley invasive ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) Risidual size 0.65. HER2 is negative. Proliferation index (K1-67) is negative. Tumor suppressor gene is negative. Margins are clear. Lymph nodes are clear. Should I do the radiation for 5 weeks? Or just have mamo's This discussion is related to Radiation or Over Kill?.
Avatar f tn My husband had stage 4 head and neck cancer, tumor was in the very back of his throat but due to the radiation the majority of his saliva glands are gone, he has tried everything out there and nothing works. He sometimes has a hard time swallowing bread, needs to drink all the time. Now his front teeth are looking kind of see thru like they're getting thin. Are crowns, vaneers or implants best for him? He'll probably have to have all his teeth done.
454026 tn?1236881142 Hi, well I got the results of my pet/ct scan. There are no signs of cancer, just the same tumor on my vaginal cuff. It grew 1/2 inch since March. My onc. is suggesting radiation for this because that's all that showed up. Has anyone had radiation for ovarian cancer? I would be getting it every day. I don’t know for how long. My husband and I had planned a trip out West. Leaving on July 11th and going for about 4-5 weeks before school starts.
Avatar n tn Part of the reason for your decreased appetite is because of the injury to the lining of your mouth and throat caused by the radiation and chemotherapy. Radiation causes you to produce substantially less saliva and mucus, which results in less lubrication to the food, difficulty in swallowing, and eventually dryness and ulceration of the mucosal lining of the mouth and pharynx. There is also a drug, amifostine, which can be used to protect against this kind of chemo-radiation induced injury.
Avatar f tn my mom had breast cancer and underwent radiation over 2 years ago. All was fine until about a week ago when she noticed a mass where the radiation was done. She went to the specialist who said it was not cancer but that it was a side effect of the radiation. Was wondering if anyone else is having or has had this same problem?
Avatar n tn I have started radiation to my sacrum and femurs this week. I pray it will help with my pain.My onc said prob 6 mo to live.
