Throat cancer lymph nodes

Common Questions and Answers about Throat cancer lymph nodes

throat

I have had the most painful lymph nodes on the left of my throat for about 3 months now. I am not sick and not tired. I have a history of skin cancer and I am worried that something serious is going on since my node is swollen. Sometimes I feel this sharp pain in my throat as if there is a cut in my throat. I can't swallow anything. It takes drinking hot fluids for the sever pain in the throat to go away. What is going on?
Hi Welcome to the MedHelp forum! Neck lymph nodes can be the result of tonsillitis, pharyngitis (infection of upper throat), infection in mouth, caries in tooth, internal ear infection, outer ear infection, eczema, dermatitis, dandruff, breast cancer, fungal infection, other cancers like lymphoma etc. If you had flu like symptoms initially then it could be due to infectious mononucleosis too.
But now the lymph nodes in my neck are starting to grow again along with some body aches and a stiff neck feeling so I'm concerned of lymph node cancer? I have read that sometimes, once a lymph node is enlarged it never goes back down to its original size. What should I do about this? Thanks.

Im sure it means nothing probaly a little bug your catching or worring too much :) I have my throid surgery tomorrow morning, so I can relate with being scared, fears about cancer...:( Do you have nodules??? and are you having surgery?
Go back and ask questions of them ,make notes of all you want to ask, ask to see an ENT specialist again and insist they look into it, do not be fudged off with nothing . If you demand answers they will look into her problem.
But 1st of June still not feeling better and felt like cyst was getting bigger so I went back to the Doc . He did another ct to check lymph nodes in neck said everything looked okay. So he did blood work and said I have mono. Great-- I am 46 years old and falling apart. Mono who would have thought it. I am sorry this is long but alot tied together. This week lymph nodes decided to swell up and hurt. Didn't know I was this bad until they started running test.
Hello, Lymph nodes are small (1-2cm) and bean-shaped nodes. they are very important to your body keeping you healthy. Lymphadenopathy (swollen lymph nodes) is usually caused by a viral or bacterial infection. Other causes include allergic reactions, arthritis, cancer, metabolic diseases, and an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism). What is the constituency of the swollen lymph nodes?
im not even sure if its the lymph node. im gonna check with my doc, ask her to check my lymph nodes. 1 more week and im gonna get this over with it has been the longest 3 months of my life, and so far the most worrisom ones aswell.
I don't know how 'paying for tests' works in your country, but I'd looking into saving for the tests, especially given your family history. You might not just be saving money, you might be saving your life. Maybe a local Church or Charity can help?

Quick question.....do all persistenly swollen lymph nodes need to be biopsied? In the case of myself, a 26 year old male in good health, non smoker etc. with NO B SYMPTOMS.....would you suggest a biopsy? There are 4 nodes in the submandibular region, left sided (suprclavicular LN negative), non-tender, mobile, firm. They've been there for over a year now. I feel fine, but no the significance of persistenly swollen LN. Would you suggest a biopsy? Also, HIV negative.
For the past year, he has been noticing that his lymph nodes in his neck and throat are extremely swollen, and very firm to the touch. He got them checked out when he first noticed them (one year ago), they took some of the tissue and said it wasn't cancer. We were extremely relieved. They also said they would go away. They haven't, and in fact they've multiplied. He is under a lot of stress, so I am trying to convince myself it is just that. We're both healthy 20-somethings.
4cm) - i can feel a lump in my throat as a result. -Swollen, painful lymph nodes running up the right side of my neck for about 3 days now. they feel about 1cm and firm, like a bean (but they move). -Intermittent chest pain, right side, just under the rib cage for about 3 months. I have had a CAT scan of the chest/liver area which came back normal. Also, I had Thyroid cancer 10 years ago, and had a total thyroidectomy.
I was thinking whether the sweating problem is related to the enlarged lymph nodes. I wonder I had thyroid cancer or something like that. I am so so worry.
In my twins, allergies do make them have runny noses, sore throats, and sore lymph nodes. The lymph nodes will be sore and swollen during an infection, it is what they are there for. They help you fight infection. Have a doctor check your throat to see if you need antibiotics, he can check your lymph nodes at the same time.
Hi, Infections like sore throat, tonsillitis, dental infection, syphilis, genital herpes to name a few can all cause enlarged lymph nodes. To know the difference between cancer and infection a biopsy is essential and diagnostic. What other symptoms does your daughter have apart from swollen lymph nodes?
It is hard for me to tell if I have torn a ligament in the throat, or if it actually is a swollen node. Would swollen lymph nodes cause your entire neck to hurt so bad you can barely tilt forward or twist your neck?
Not sure if that could cause painful lymph nodes. I’m kind of worried about having a cancer or leukemia. I have done a full blood test (CBC) that came back normal. I’m just wondering if these are all throat infection why is my CBC blood test normal all the time and the strep throat comes back negative? Mono is negative as well. And the sore throat is usually deep down inside my throat near the thyroid. (did a thyroid test that was normal too). Could this be something serious? I'm 20, male.

Thyroid cancer is another possibility since you have a lumpy thyroid.
I believe it's most likely a new infectious response to something, in that cancer would not likely develop and advance so fast. What could this possibly be? Could it be cancer even though the lymph tissue appeared normal? I am a white male age 33 with no current health problems. Thanks in advance.
I looked it up on google and all I saw was larynx cancer/lymph nodes. One last thing Can u get an STD/HIV if you kiss someone and they happen to semi bleed. Like the afore mentioned story? What do you guys think?
He told me i have sinus infection and ear infection and that my throat is irritated because of post nasal drip and that my neck lymph nodes are swollen. The swollen lymph nodes stroke me as particularly odd- i thought they are indicative of a serious infection or cancer. My doctor seemed to be more alarmed about my ears than about my lymph nodes He prescribed antibiotics, 500 mg of Ceclor 3 times a day and a nasal spray that disinfects the nasal canals. I am in panic now though.

Lymphadenopathy (swollen lymph nodes) is usually caused by a viral or bacterial infection. I have had none-pain swelling in right sided occipital lymph node and stationary swelling like small olives in other lymph nodes in right side of neck...no pain.... Two days ago the swelling increased in occipital and is very painful to touch and I have developed severe headache and pressure in right side of head and sinus cavities....nose feels stopped up and numb up in right side...pain behind right eye...and neck and back muscles hurt when I put chin down toward chest....any help?
I just have a feeling that these doctors see so many patients that they just blow off things like swollen lymph nodes. He actually checked my throat for signs of throat cancer, though I have not had a sore throat in years and had no complaints as far as my throat goes... oh well, I will just assume he knows more than I do (he is the doc after all) and hope that everything is well!
Anyhow, before the surgery (where they would remove the inguinal lymph nodes from my right groin) my oncologist wanted to feel all my nodes that were reachable. I had never met with the doctor before, because I had only been aware of having cancer for about four days. So, as he's feeling my nodes, he pauses a bit like he's concerned. Then moves on.
