Avatar n tn Lymph nodes enlarge when there is an infection. The head and neck area have an extensive network of lymph nodes. These lymph nodes function like a filter, and thus increase in size in the presence of infection to filter out organisms. Even with treatment, some lymph nodes remain enlarged. A recurrent infection would further increase the size of the lymph node. However, there are other conditions that can present with lymph node enlargement. Head and neck malignancy is an example.
Avatar n tn It seems that my lump near my throat is not a lymph node. And that the other lymph nodes in my neck are not swollen (at least the one that can be felt by hand), Also that my fever is on the normal range and that the pain in the abdonimal is weird and maybe asymptomatic as it is moving and is not constant. So hopefully everything will be ok. Ofcourse I will go to a doctor when I go back home for a better opinion.
Avatar f tn I went to my doctor because I was a little freaked out. He said I had some enlarged lymph nodes in my throat as well (I did not think anything of it because they have always been kind of big). I had mono twice in high school so I assumed they would always be that way. Anways, he had me get a chest x-ray, blood tests, and a complete ultrasound. Everything came back normal (thank God).
Avatar f tn suddnly they found cancer in his lymh nodes and ssaid that it had to have been somewhere else first i honestly believe that it was stomach cancer or throat cancer from the h-pyloi this scares me as i still have no ins.
Avatar m tn Not sure if that could cause painful lymph nodes. I’m kind of worried about having a cancer or leukemia. I have done a full blood test (CBC) that came back normal. I’m just wondering if these are all throat infection why is my CBC blood test normal all the time and the strep throat comes back negative? Mono is negative as well. And the sore throat is usually deep down inside my throat near the thyroid. (did a thyroid test that was normal too). Could this be something serious? I'm 20, male.
Avatar n tn They absolutely sound like lymph nodes, and are most likely NOT cancer. I would definitely have them followed-up though with your personal history of cancer. They could be caused by any type of infection, or they could also be shotty lymph nodes that will always stay enlarged. Pea-sized is not big though, and almost everyone can feel a swollen lymph node somewhere on their body.
Avatar m tn In my twins, allergies do make them have runny noses, sore throats, and sore lymph nodes. The lymph nodes will be sore and swollen during an infection, it is what they are there for. They help you fight infection. Have a doctor check your throat to see if you need antibiotics, he can check your lymph nodes at the same time.
Avatar n tn When the body is fighting an infection, lymphocytes multiply rapidly and produce a characteristic swelling of the lymph nodes. Lymph nodes act as filters or traps for foreign particles and contain white blood cells. These cells then destroy foreign invaders. The anterior cervical lymph nodes, both superficial and deep, lie above and beneath the sternocleidomastoid muscles.
Avatar f tn It may be something to consider since there are no symptoms of thyroid cancer and the lymph nodes can often be involved.
Avatar n tn For the past year, he has been noticing that his lymph nodes in his neck and throat are extremely swollen, and very firm to the touch. He got them checked out when he first noticed them (one year ago), they took some of the tissue and said it wasn't cancer. We were extremely relieved. They also said they would go away. They haven't, and in fact they've multiplied. He is under a lot of stress, so I am trying to convince myself it is just that. We're both healthy 20-somethings.
Avatar n tn Go back and ask questions of them ,make notes of all you want to ask, ask to see an ENT specialist again and insist they look into it, do not be fudged off with nothing . If you demand answers they will look into her problem.
Avatar m tn It is hard for me to tell if I have torn a ligament in the throat, or if it actually is a swollen node. Would swollen lymph nodes cause your entire neck to hurt so bad you can barely tilt forward or twist your neck?
Avatar f tn I was thinking whether the sweating problem is related to the enlarged lymph nodes. I wonder I had thyroid cancer or something like that. I am so so worry.
Avatar f tn That being said, swollen lymph nodes or enlarged thyroid or thyroid nodules can all give a lump in the throat feeling, especially when swallowing. If you still have swollen lymph nodes from your throat infection, it could be causing the lump in the throat feeling. An alternative, which I bring up because I sometimes deal with anxiety, is that anxiety and stress can also cause a lump in the throat feeling, and this can have absolutely nothing to do with swollen lymph nodes or the thyroid.

Avatar m tn The surgical notes and pathology state that all cancer was contained in the thyroid, was removed, and it had not spread. Could a recurrence happen in 6 months? Could the cancer jump to lymph nodes far away? This seems so odd to me.
Avatar f tn t think much of it and then about 2 weeks later I became ill one evening-I was very dizzy, all my muscles had flu like aches, I had a horrible radiating pain from the first lymph nodes, across my breasts and to my other arm. In the morning I felt sore spots all over my chest. Went to the doctor and she found swollen lymph nodes in the neck, armpits, around my breasts, and groin.
Avatar n tn I have thyroid cancer and have had several surgeries to remove lymph nodes that had cancer. I also had strep throat and mono a couple of years ago that caused the lymph nodes to enlarge as those were not cancerous. The doctor can confirm that it is not cancer by an ultrasound and/or blood work. I would suggest getting a second opinion to put your nerves to rest.
Avatar f tn Two months later my tongue is not better, my sore throat has gotten worse where my lymph nodes are swollen and my neck muscles are sore. I am not getting proper rest because my neck muscles are sore, I feel like I have an earache and I have frequent headaches. For two weeks now I have been having cramps, I figured because I was getting my period. I finished my period a couple days ago and I am still feeling a bit discomfort by my lower stomach area.
Avatar m tn Last time i got the sore throat it made my front neck lymph nodes to get swollen and it would hurt to touch. The tenderness and pain got better and its getting less swollen now. But 5 days ago i started getting a very bad stomach pain and nausea. Few hours later i was vomiting and had the worse stomach pain.
Avatar n tn Hello, Lymph nodes are small (1-2cm) and bean-shaped nodes. they are very important to your body keeping you healthy. Lymphadenopathy (swollen lymph nodes) is usually caused by a viral or bacterial infection. Other causes include allergic reactions, arthritis, cancer, metabolic diseases, and an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism). What is the constituency of the swollen lymph nodes?
