Common Questions and Answers about Throat cancer early detection

Avatar f tn Hello, Has anyone heard about or taken the Oncalert Orarapid or Oramark test? It is a oral cancer (mouth and throat) saliva test that has been developed for early detection of Oral Cancer. I'm surprised there is no chatter about this test since one of the top HPV concerns right now is head and neck cancer. Currently, it is commercially available in most countries outside of the U.S. Has anyone taken the test, any thoughts, etc? https://www.prnewswire.

Avatar n tn My mother had breast cancer and lead a much healthier life style than I have. Unfortunately, cancer is not something that we can avoid. But early detection and educating ourselves on our bodies is our best defense.
Avatar m tn This definitely concerns me. A lump in that area could be an enlarged lymph node. It could be caused by anything from a simple infection that your body is fighting off or it could be a sign of lymphoma or leukemia. As a leukemia survivor myself, I would suggest going and getting it checked out. As we all know, early detection saves lives and you'd rather be safe than sorry. So make an appt. ASAP!!! And keep me updated.
Avatar m tn A new method of detecting cancer early using a few drops of blood, developed by a Hong Kong researcher, has been named as one of the top 10 breakthrough technologies this year by a globally respected magazine. The liquid biopsy technology, cited by MIT Technology Review, was the result of over 20 years of research by Professor Dennis Lo Yuk-ming, associate dean of medicine at Chinese University.
Avatar n tn The research I have read about early detection has me concerned. Any knowledge or adcise is appreciated.
Avatar f tn I am a 37 year old mother of 2 beautiful boys, but I have had my fair share of female problems. Beginning after my 2nd boy was born in 2002. I ended up having a hysterectomy in 2005 because of endometriosis and an enlarged uterus. I chose to keep my ovaries because they were working fine. My family history is huge for cancer...mostly on my mother's side.
Avatar f tn Some studies have led to earlier detection of lung cancer but shown little or no effect on overall cancer survival. Still, I favor attempts at early detection, especially during the first ten years following smoking cessation, especially the technique of sputum cytology. That is the examination of coughed-up sputum, for cancer cells. I suggest that you contact your local American Lung Association (ALA) for information about where such testing is available in your community.
394052 tn?1203100849 My family has a strong history of cancer. Grandmother with breast cancer at 94, mother with colon cancer at age 73, uncle lung cancer, uncle stomach cancer, aunt with colon cancer, great aunt leukemia. These are all on maternal side. Brother now with prostate cancer at age 55 and me with stage 1b clear cell ovarian cancer at age 55 (no sign of disease now). I realize with older people and cancer, the docs have always told me, well they were just old enough.
Avatar m tn Rapid Test came back neg, waiting for result of early detection test. Can the early detection test identify the virus after 1 weeks exposure? I am worried that residual semen on the 2 guys penises could have infected me. Symptoms so soon? 1 day of 99.6 fever? Sore throat lasted a week. What about the weird feeling with upper & lower abdominals? Is it the increase in nexium? Is it the z-pack? Still waking up with sore throats, but I think it is due to a nasal drip. Please help.
Avatar m tn No reason to think they are hpv related either. Oral hpv typically presents differently and not on the tonsilar region. throat cancer at your age is also very low risk and not likely. definitely follow up with the ENT specialist if things aren't better by next week. as for your genital pain, it seems to be more random than constant and odds are it's not a std going on either at this point. should it get worse, see your provider for further testing.
Avatar m tn Diarrhea doesn't cause polyps, but polyps can cause bleeding. Anytime one sees blood in their stool they should have it checked out. Daily dirrahea is not normal and with your symptoms I think you should see a Gastroenterologist ASAP! Bright red blood can come from hemorrhoids, fissures, polyps and a lower GI bleed. Black stool indicates an upper GI bleed. This loss of blood is probably why you're so tired, it's made you anemic.

Avatar n tn I am afraid that the dental community doesn't have the power to convenience your family to visit them. early detection for any cancer goes a long way in its sucessful treatment. I am sure your family is intelligent enough to realize that. I am sure when your family would visit the dentist and your history was explained that the dentist would be understanding and supportive.
Avatar f tn I have a mom that was diagnosed at 53 and died at 58 of colon cancer. She did not get routine colonoscopies. I just recently found out my Great Aunt and Great Uncle passed away from colon cancer. I'm still trying to confirm if they were sister and brother or from different sides of the family. Assuming they were sister and brother, but my grandparents did not get colon cancer and my mom did, does this make this definitely hereditary?
Avatar f tn Microcalcifications themselves are not cancerous but an indication of some changes in the breast tissue that may be due to cancer. Due to methods of early detection (and our own dedication) cancer can be detected when very small before a lump can be felt. Unfortunately recurrance is always a possibility as is the development of another primary cancer. We all hope to remain "Survivors"in spite of those possibilities.
