My voice began getting hoarse and cracky. Today I wokeup and my voice is completely gone.i was thinking maybe a cold because the weather is weird now so sometimes I go out dressed like its spring when it's cold. I also had oral sex a few days ago. Can you tell me what this might be?
4Try not to eat too many of cough sweets (as in more then one per hour) as they can make your throat feel heavy and tired. Sour Remedies 1Put lemon juice in the microwave for about a minute. When you drink it, it will open up your throat. It may sting a bit, but it helps. If you need to, add 2-4 teacups of sugar. Ads by Google Can't Stop Coughing? Fast Acting Cough Relief. It was similar to what could happen when you have a bot of cold and cough. It is about 3 weeks and my voice has still not become normal. It is still hoarse, cracking and totally fades away (chokes in the throat) when I try to talk at a high pitch. I have been doing domestic remedies such as saline water gargles couple of times a day, having lemon tea with honey, having ginger juice with honey but nothing has helped out so far.
I'm constantly clearing my throat and frequently lose my voice. My family doctor told me it was probably acid reflux and put me on Prevecid. I didn't believe him because I didn't and don't seem to have a lot of the other symptoms. I was having some heartburn but didn't seem to experience the acid coming up in my throat. So I went to a ENT who also told me the same and put me on Nexium. I'm still skeptical about it all, but I'm taking the Nexium, 40 mg twice a day for over a month now.
You will find, not only natural remedies for gastric reflux (Gastric Reflux tips without acid blockers), but comments by real people who are getting help from the natural remedies. These GER/LPR tips greatly helped (and continue to help) my husband and me, and we have never used acid blockers. Good luck to you! Sincerely, Concerned lady http://cantbreathesuspectvcd.
While on the antibiotics I started losing my voice. I took the full course of meds and during which my sore throat and ear ache went away and my voice returned. The day I stopped taking the medication I noticed my throat was starting to hurt again. Now here I am sitting March 9th 2010 and my sore throat is terrible. I have no fever, no appitite and no congestion. Though I am starting to feel my voice goin again.

Until you can get in to see the doctor, try some over the counter sore throat remedies/helpers such as a throat spray, acetaminophen or ibuprofen for pain (double check with your doc before taking anything if you are on any other meds), gargling with warm salt water or even an anti bacterial mouthwash. Also be sure and keep your throat as moist as possible - drink extra liquids and even sucking on a piece of hard candy or cough drop can help sometimes.
Any hints as to what we can do in the meantime, since resting her voice (not singing in any range other than her normal voice, not yelling, etc), fluids, throat drops and other home remedies do not seem to be helping? PS She has not even begun any hints of puberty yet (not an "early bloomer") so this does not appear to be part of the problem.
I've also had this issue and I feel after all the herbal and antibiotic remedies I have tried....it seems to be related to some type of hard to detect protozoa infection or type of worm behind my left lung and shoulder blade...I've had many stool tests...x-rays and blood work ups...ultra-scans....etc....they dont have a clue.... the best herbal formulas are the black walnut, cloves and wormwood..also the vit c & salt work well.....
The main thing to remember to do is to keep your throat moist - a most throat won't feel as sore and scratchy as a dry throat will and a dry throat is more likely to cause coughing, which will further irritate your throat. If the sore throat is caused by a bacterial infection such as strep, the above home remedies will still provide relief from pain, but like with a virus, it won't get rid of the bacteria causing the infection and in order to do that, you will need an antibiotic.
just really the phlegm in the back of my throat... and when i do cough, its to clear out my throat...
The mucous sliding down the back of my throat is still everpresent, and causes me to constantly clear my throat, which oftentimes triggers a coughing episode, though the coughing has subsided considerably. Since my daughter recently had a c-section and has two other children, she's needed me to help her and I'm afraid to go anywhere near the newborn, not knowing if this mucous thing with the accompanying cough is contagious or not.
I've been taking one pill a day for over a year with no issues at all and the phlem is gone in my lungs and throat. I ran out about a week ago and it all came back so it was definitely working. I highly recommend it. I get it from the website SwansonVitamins.com. Search their site for NAC. They have it cheap compared to Vitamin World and GNC. One a day fixed me!
Make sure you drink plenty of water. Won't stop it, but it keeps you and your throat hydrated and gets rid of any irritant in your throat. Best wishes.

I always have mucus congestion in nose, throat, lungs . I also have mucus secretions in throat. My voice is very weak throughout day. There are 3 things which increase the mucus production rapidly - Food, Sleep, Cold Weather. After eating food the mucus congestion increase as well as mucus secretion increases and my voice decreases. I am unable to talk even with the person sitting close to me.
The best way to describe the sound is like a stomach growling, only in the throat. It's incredibly embarrassing and I can't prevent it from happening. It tends to happen a lot after I drink juice or soda, but also sometimes after meals where I only drank water. Along with the gurgle I feel some light pressure in my lower throat, near my collarbone, like there's air trying to get out (no pain).
Your long history of apparent sinus and throat infection raises the question of a possible deficiency of your immune system; that is, a defect in your resistance to infection. There are a number of possible causes of the weakness and tiredness you describe (including adverse effects of antibiotics), unrelated to infection one of which, gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD) could cause the irritation you experience or predispose to recurrent infection.
Dear all, My father, aged 65, is suffering from a loss of voice and hoarseness on and off, since 5 years. He takes snuff regularly but has no other habits like smoking or drinking alcohol. He has had his tonsils removed in childhood. And we all have hereditary tonsillitis, sore throat, cold and cough. He has no difficulty swallowing but has to strain a lot to talk and raise his voice. He is not at all ready to go to an ENT specialist fearing operation and permanent loss of voice.
I had a horrible sore throat, fever, body aches, etc., and went to the doc - was tested for strep and was negative, but like you, because ol the symptoms, was put on antibiotics. They did not help and I continued to get worse. Returned to doc four days later and they retested me for strep and this time it came up positive and when I asked why it didn't show before, that was what they told me - it could have been too early in the illness to register.
I have to continually and brutally clear my throat to find my voice. If I don't, it goes husky, high and muffled; extremely hard to talk. This has impacted severly on my work and personal life, I'm extremely depressed and anxious all the time. I've seen ENTs, Allergists, a Naturopath, even a Chinese Medicine guy, but no answers. The naturopath found that there was definite allergic reaction in my body, and that I had severly low Zinc and stomach acid levels.
Sometimes I can grab it and drag it out from the back of my throat .. thick and stringy .. and could almost tie it in a knot . Gross eh :-( Ive tried steam inhalation .. gargling .. drinking loads of water . . and still its the same . Had this problem about three years now . Is there anybody out there that help me please .
It began in 1976 and re occurs every 5 to 6 years. I get a sore throat (not tonsils but when you swallow) I now go straight on antibiotics and use Bricanyl inhaler although it doesnt seem to have much effect except to cause alot of mucus coughed up from the lungs. It causes me to have spasm coughing and if I cannot control this to 3 or 4 coughs my windpipe closes over making it hard to breath in or out.

And I grow ever more frustrated and enraged with each passing minute my throat is dry, hoarse and on fire! Honestly I highly doubt it can be allergies when I've never had them to this degree before! What did my body just decide to wake up and be allergic to the world one day? I highly doubt it! PLEASE HELP ME!!! It's affecting my livelihood! I need to sing!!! It's all I do, and all I've been doing since the age of 5!!! I'd rather die than not sing another day of my life!
I’ve tried to pass the saline solution from nostril to nostril and nostril to back of throat but none prevail. L And yes, sdlidstone, it is a daily problem to me too. I’m not good at rattling my sinus and my fingers are too short!!! My appointment is on coming Thursday, I’ll let you know what my GP is going to say. C.
My husband has been terribly sick with flu-like symptoms and cough. I have had a runny nose and sneezing but now my throat is really, really burning and I know I won't have a voice tomorrow (my hands were swollen all night and that also kept waking me up with my hands tingling and going to sleep - not that this has anything to do with my throat but thought I would mention because I don't know what that means).
This is a thin flexible fiberoptic scope that will be inserted through one of your nostrils and gently passed down the back of your nose to your throat allowing the doctor to have a good look at your voice box and throat. If this area looks red or swollen you could have LPR. After your exam, your doctor may order some other tests or recommend a specific treatment. Hope this helps someone.
Things to think about with VCD you may have trouble breathing in rather than exhaling you may experience other symptoms such as throat clearing, cough, changes in the pitch in you voice and the feeling something is stuck in you throat. With asthma more often than not people experience nighttime symptoms that may wake you. If it is asthma it should respond to asthma medication if its not I would defiantly see you Dr about that.
