Hello and hope you are doing well. It could most probably be tonsillitis and a throat infection. Throat pain, difficulty swallowing, fever, scratchiness in the throat, post nasal drip, malaise and loss of appetite are symptoms of tonsillitis. It can be caused by bacteria like streptococcus or it could be a viral infection. Bacterial infections need antibiotics.
So, here is why I am writing this. I still have that sore throat but in my chest feeling and now my tongue feels swollen and my throat as well (So much so that I'm starting to snore at night-which my husband finds amusing), my whole torso just feels achey, when I wake up most mornings both sides just below my ribs in the back are ackey. Allergies?? Nothing?? Please point me in the right direction.

Hi, I performed an unprotected cunnilingus on an escort girl 3 weeks ago (protected fellatio and protected intercourse) My tongue hurt a few hours later, then had a sore throat and ended with geographic tongue now (two painless round spots on my tongue, they were gone 2 days ago and I have a new one today) Can this be an STD (HIV/Syphilis)? I softly brushed my teeth 3 hours before the incounter and only drunk water. 3 days after the incounter, my spit smelled like vagina.
On April 14th I had unprotected intercourse with another woman. The days passed and I did not think much of this encounter until a couple of weeks after the event a rash appeared on my penis. I went to a GP on May 14th and took a blood test. The doctor thought it was herpes. A couple of days after my blood test I developed a sore throat, then a runny nose, then a slight fever with fatigue. I diagnosed this as a cold and did not think much of it.
You may be suffering from glossitis which causes tongue swelling and changes in tongue color. The common causes of glossitis are bacterial or viral infections, mechanical irritation of the tongue or injuries such as burns, tongue contact with irritants, including tobacco, alcohol and hot or spicy foods, allergic reactions to oral hygiene products and certain medical conditions. See a physician and get the diagnosis confirmed. Do keep me posted. Best wishes and regards!

Its been 4 days since my gall bladder surgery which was done laprascopically and I now have thrush on my tongue and throat. I go for my post up check up next Wednesday, is this thrush something to be concerned with now? Should I go to the doctor or wait? Why did I get thrush to begin with?
This is usually treated by treating the primary problem in the nose and sinuses. Another cause are viral infections, and you usually acquire these through droplet spread. It's true that a weak immune system can make you predisposed to these problems. I suggest you discuss these other possibilities with your doctors. If warranted, you can ask them if they can do a biopsy of the lesions to have a more definitive diagnosis. Regards and God bless.
Now for the last 2 weeks my tongue has been swollen. At first my tongue felt sore and there was a tenderness right under my chin, but no swollen lymph node. I went to the ENT again and he prescribed a oral steroid, prednisone, which I took for a week. The soreness and the tenderness went away, but my tongue is still swollen. I can eat and drink just fine. I'm rarely drink (for the past 3 weeks, not at all) and don't smoke at all.
I have read this can be a side effect of the antibiotic, but when I googled the symptom of white coated tongue and bad breath, I saw all these hsv1 pages pop up, and of course, got paranoid once again, because I kissed someone a few days prior. I honestly feel like my body is just telling me I'm meant to be single forever because any time I do anything with anyone, I seem to get some type of symptom lol. Does this sound like a primary hsv1 outbreak?
I am also having mouth and throat issues, about 2 weeks after oral sex I started getting fry throat and dry mouth and lips, I did not have white spots that I could scrape off but tounge was coated. Dr said it could be thrush but did not test for it, took loasenges that seemed to help but symptoms didn't go away, sometimes worse sometimes better. about 2 weeks after that started my eye started to get red, now when I wake up they are blood red and they get red when they get tired.
5 months ago on the back of the throat which was positive for HSV1 and I had 2 more cultures on the tongue one being negative for HSV1 and one being positive for HSV1. Only 2 weeks ago, 2 months after the first throat culture was positive I had blood tests for both hsv1 and hsv2 and both were negative as were my initial blood tests 2.5 months ago. I saw two doctors. One gave me Nystatin to take to ease the pain and another Lidocaine. Do you recommend one over another.
I have had chronic bacterial infections in my sinuses, tonsels and throat for the past two months and have been on many rounds of antibiotics, my infections are gone but I was left with a strong deep cough and now phlegm and swelling in my throat. No doctors have been able to tell me what it could be, my ear nose throat specialist said it was most likely acid reflux disease, but I don't buy that.
Tell me about it....burning white coated tongue, lump in throat that feels as if something is stuck with couple of white spots which can be partially scraped deep inside the mouth n hope evaporating at the speed of sound.
I too feel like my tongue and throat muscles are not working properly. I am a 25 year old female and my only symptoms are a slight weakness in my left hand, a sore tongue sometimes and some muscle and joint pain sporadically. I too have problems with anxiety so I really pray that all this stems from that. I don't have the courage to get the EMG done, because I am terrified of finding out I have this horrible disease.
Prior to my current symptoms, I had/have experienced frequent diarrhea, a lower back ache, and geographic tongue. During the past 6 months I have significantly curtailed my drinking to only beer, and no more than a few beers a week. I take Lipitor, BP meds, and Ambien. For the last several months, I have been had the following symptoms: Daily sore throat ...
Hello, Excessive use of mouth wash is known to dry out the mouth and kill the naturally occuring bacteria which can then predispose to fungal infections like oral thrush. It appears as white patches in the mouth and throat. KOH examination of the tongue scrapings and oral antifungals are needed in that case. I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
The second are – The coating of the tongue There should be a thin clear coating on the normal tongue and if the tongue becomes thick then this usually indicates that there is an imbalance in the digestive system. If the coat of the tongue peels then certain areas or systems in the body are thought to be damaged or in a weakened state. If the tongue has a yellowish, coating then this is the sign that infection is present within the body or that there are problems with inflammation.

Today is Tuesday (April 27th, 2010) when I woke up my mouth taste felt very bitter and when I take a look at my tongue and it was all white covering stuffs and my sour throat seems a little bit more worse. I'm very scare that I might contracted HIV or some kind of nasty STDs so yesterday I went and take the "8 Test Panel + DNA Upgrade". When he came back he took a nap. I took his temperature and it was 103. By now his throat started swelling, and eventually swelled up terribley by sunday. Also, he was complaining about his gums and wisdom teeth hurting. With doses of tylonal, I'm getting his temperature to stay down to 99 - 101. Nothing was getting better, only worse. He woke up yesterday morning with a swollen tongue, and was complaining about THAT hurting now. We thought he had strep throat.
It feels like there are two nerves, muscles or something down the left and right side of my tongue and it stings (especially as my tongue reaches my throat) and makes it hard to move my tongue as well. It doesn't itch or swell from what I can tell. It's certainly nothing like my anaphylactic reactions. It usually goes away in about 20 mins, but it scares me - my more severe food allergies developed over time so I am nervous. I have some odd food allergies.
Besides this Group B Streptococcus, mycoplasma, neisseria and cornybacterium are known to cause throat infections. Other known pathogens causing infections of the throat are viral and yeast (candida). The reason for elaborating about these pathogens is that the tests done and the therapy initiated vary for the listed pathogens. To begin with a throat swab is taken to see for streptococcus.
I had an ultrasound which detected multi-nodule goitres and a barium swallow which showed oesophageal webbing ( these were before the ear problems presented) they were done because I have a persistent low grade sore throat and a feeling of a slight obstruction for 8+ months. I have just noticed red lumps on both sides of very back of tongue. Could the recent ear problems be related to this??
the problem seemed to start 3 years ago when i got the worst throat infection ive ever had and it lasted about 8 weeks and things have never been right since.
