Common Questions and Answers about Throat and chest congestion

throat

I have had a chest xray done and my doctor said no bronchitis or puemonia or any other problems my chest would feel congested plus i would wake up every morning with my throat dry and having that feeling that there is something in my throat. plus i would spit up clear and white mucus. no colored mucus. plus whenever i drink coffee my chest gets congested.
What it feels like is the chronic post nasal drip I have has caused congestion in my upper chest. However, the weird part is, I really have no cough, and the occasional cough has never brought anything up. In the past, if my chest begins to feel this way, it is followed by the painful cough and coughing stuff up. I would not call what I have sometimes as pain, it feels more like irritation. When I am active, as well as when I drink a lot of water, it seems to be much better.
Have had chest congestion and mucus draining down my throat periodically for last couple of years. At some point I lose my voice as well. Is this an allergy? This discussion is related to chronic sinus congestion, plugged ears, chest congestion, coughing.
if it is, then dont let it drain into the back of your throat as much as you can, blow your nose as much as you can also, dont just suck it back in and swallow it, this can cause the mucus to go straight into your lungs, which happend to me, and yeah. and everytime you cough, try to spit also, and drink alot of sprite. that helps break it up. and just put some vicks vaporub on your chest. that helps me all the time... goodluck lol. it *****.
I have nasal, throat and chest congestin. When I sit I am fine but if I walk I have difficulty breathing. Sometimes I am near normal and other times it gets worse. I flew into New York from Sacramento, California thinking I had allergies but I cannot shake them this time.
I had what I thought was a cold for a few days stuffy nose sore throat but now my chest is all congested and its kinda hard to breathe sometimes especially after doing something. I've been coughing for three days straight been taking an expectorant but haven't had too much luck yet... I think i'm running a fever not super high though... and I just feel super tired all the time...Any idea of what I can do to feel better?

I know my body naturally coughs to expel the mucus, so I think my problem is the mucus and not the cough. Please help my throat, chest and back are really sore from coughing so much.

It just seems so weird to me to have sudden heavy congestion in my throat and chest with no stuffy nose or other symptoms. As for the achy body, I think that's probably just from the violent coughing (so bad it makes me gag). I'm taking Mucinex now and tylenol for pain, and I'm feeling a little better. But how can avoid this in the future, and could this be a sign of something more serious?
Hello, I have excessive mucous or congestion inmy throat that I feel needs to come up. Are there any suggestions to get rid of this. Nothing seems to be helping. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I had Anterior Cervical discectomy and fusion C-3/4. 2 weeks ago. throat was sore and it was hard to talk and swallow solids. 3 days after I got , what I thought was a simple cold with nasal congestion and low grade fever lasting couple of days. The nasal discharge has been copious and clear. My concern is the severe congested cough that has developed and lasting over a week/ my nasal discharge has lessoned and is still clear or white.
This can cause chest tightness and chest congestion to the point of coughing up phlegm. A nasal wash helps remove mucus and bacteria from the nose and sinuses. This can temporarily reduce the postnasal drip and make it easier to breath. A prescription nasal steroid spray decreases nasal swelling and mucus production. This may prevent the postnasal drip and chest problems. To get the most out of a nasal steroid spray use it after doing a nasal wash.
I haven’t had a major asthmatic episode in about 5 years (last time I had it was when I had a bad cold 5 years ago). Currently When I swallow, I feel mucus in my throat. and I don’t cough a lot, but when I do, it’s dry, and I can’t cough up mucus. I feel like its stuck in throat or lung. What could be going on?
I feel congested in my throat & upper chest area, & my upper back hurts a bit, and there is shortness of breath.. What could it be.
The constants were sore throat and congestion. No fever. Chills once for a short period. During this time I was expelling a little phlegm both through throat and nose, mostly in am when awakening and in the shower. I went to work after 4th day. Felt fair during day, nights were usually bad. I have felt fairly well the last 2 days (during the day) and then this morning I woke up again with sore throat and minor earache. I am not expelling much phlegm or coughing much.
Hope you decide to stick around once you're feeling better but guess you can't go there until you get settled with the Here and Now. Like Alex and Tammy, I doubt your breathing difficulty and congested chest are related to the Copaxone. I'm going to expand on that a little 'cause expanding is (regrettably) one of the things I seem to do if it’s needed (or not). Copaxone literature states there have been uncommon reports of shortness of breath after starting the drug.
About a week ago, I started having trouble swallowing but it was only in the evenings and then that changed to all the time. It feels like my throat is swollen and there is a lump in my throat. A throat culture was done and it was negative. I was told to continue the sudifed, flonase and add advil to help with the swelling which was likely due to post nasal drip and a viral infection that was causing the throat to swell.
This sinuses could be dripping back into your throat, causing the congestion. Whatever the cause for your continued problems, your doc needs to be contacted so that the proper tests can be run. Make sure he or she does a culture of your sputum to see what is growing in there. A culture also provides invaluble information regarding what kind of antibiotics that would be most effective in treating the infection.
i have had a cough for quite some time, i feel like im strangling on the phlem in my throat..
He said I have a sinus infection, but this is the third week I've been sick like this and I'm just not getting better. Should I go back and have a chest x-ray to see if it's gone into something more than a regular sinus infection, or is there a home remedy or over the counter stuff I could take to prevent myself from going back to the Dr?
My doc checked my ears, nose, throat, chest and all was clear. Have been using nasal saline and steam. Still experiencing pain:pressure so was put on antibiotics even though I don' t know if this is bacterial. Just finished antibiotic but still experience occasional pain/pressure. Does it take awhile for pressure to subside? It has been almost two weeks and I don't want another antibiotic. Also suppose to get on a plane in 3 days. Any advice or insight?
The other night I was laying in bed on my side and had my hand under my ribs and so I could feel my heart beat really well and it just got weaker and weaker until I could hardly feel it and my head started to feel all light and cold. So I hurry and move and then it goes away. I also have started having tingly sensations on my head-like when your hand "falls asleep". I also raised my arms up and my vein in my neck got really distended.
