225237 tn?1333138999 Laboratory Abnormalities in NAFLD The definitive diagnosis of NAFLD is based on histologic examination of liver biopsy samples (see Table 3 ). However, ethical considerations as well as inherent risks associated with this procedure limit its widespread applicability as a screening test in apparently healthy individuals or even to those with significant risk factors.
Avatar f tn However, i think we can rule out, based on the specificity of symptoms and their explicit correlation, a diagnosis that chalks this up to a psychosomatic problem of conversion or mental provenance. I think what we Can agree on is this: 1) its sexually transmitted 2) anti-biotics provide no relief (therefore, it may not be bacterial in nature, though this is not presumed) 3) anti-fungals also seem to have pretty marginal successs based on the anecdotes in this and other forums.
Avatar m tn Your fasting levels are within normal range [60/70 to 99 mg/dl]. Fasting levels are a snapshot of your glucose taken at the time of test. It doesn't tell you what your glucose was two hours, a week or month prior to the test. That is why the results of an A1c test converted to eAG [daily estimated Average Glucose] provides a clearer picture. Question to you is how long - in hours - after lunch is "Post lunch"?
Avatar m tn Depression itself is an important cause of sexual dysfunction but more important is the prolonged use of sertraline which has known side effects of ejaculation failure and paresthesia. Paresthesia is a sensation of tingling, tickling, prickling, pricking, or burning of a person's skin with no apparent long-term physical effect.
1399363 tn?1462342610 Vitamin B6 and copper are needed for the production and maintenance of diamine oxidase. If there is an inherent deficiency in the production of the enzyme due to genetic factors then supplementing the vitamins or minerals will not help. You may have to take anti histamines to manage the symptoms. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
10221785 tn?1410990458 So I have a doctor's appointment tomorrow morning and I am due for my glucose test very soon and I am extremely nervous.. How did it go for you mums? What does it determine exactly? All I really know is that you're not suppose to eat and it's a three hour test and involves a sugar based drink?
Avatar n tn I found out a little more information. The ER physician said that the infection was likely the cause of the glucose levels being high. I guess my grandmother's primary care physician didn't believe my grandmother had diabetes based on prior tests. For some reason, she disregarded the lab results sent to the nephrologist.
Avatar m tn As you may know, there are two ways to quantify the accuracy of a diagnostic test. SENSITIVITY is the probability of a test being positive when a person actually is positive. E.g., the Oraquick in-home oral fluids test has 92% sensitivity according to the FDA (http://www.fda.gov/BiologicsBloodVaccines/BloodBloodProducts/ApprovedProducts/PremarketApprovalsPMAs/ucm311895.htm). SPECIFICITY is the probability of a test being negative when a person actually is negative. E.g.
Avatar m tn I was able to find this on the warnings- "Sinemet may cause the results of some tests for urine glucose or urine ketones to be wrong. Ask your doctor before you change your diet or the dose of your diabetes medicine."-- but nothing about it causing levels to actually be effected. Regardless- it's important to be in touch with your doctor about the changes you have seen since starting to take the medication. It's certainly something that you don't want to over look!
293845 tn?1227997530 It is a test for gestational diabetes. I don't know about false positives because it will actual give your glucose level. The drink is interesting. It's tastes like the syrup they put in pop (soda) without the carbonation. They usually refridgerate it so it's nice and cold. You have to drink it within 10-15 minutes and then they'll draw your blood an hour later!
Avatar f tn the correct insulin dose is calculated in coordination with your doctor and has to be based on the amount of carbohydrate and protein you eat as well as how high your blood sugars may get and how much one unit of insulin drops your blood sugar. Please discuss with your doctor. Please request some education on how to use insulin. It is dangerous to use insulin if one does not fully understand how it works. OF course high blood sugars are also unhealthy.
Avatar f tn I do hope you are under the care of a physcian especially versed in the specificity of the disorders in this population, and that your treatment is not based on assumption, meaning that a sleep study was done to rule out any underlying sleep disorders needing treatment. Hope you get some replies that help you with your sleep problems. I'm just another sleep disorder person offering you my well wishes.
Avatar f tn I never did it for my first pregnancy. Did it for my second. Probably won't bother for my third. If you eat a low GI diet anyway then thats mainly the management plan you'd get anyway if you had it unless it was really bad... so if you can't do the test the next best option is to eat healthy with low sugar, and you'd be doing your baby and body a favour anyway as well as effectively managing diabetes if you just happened to have it.
Avatar n tn Hi i just recently read some very recent articles from doctors saying that the atkins diet could be a very good way of eating for diabetics because of the low carb approach that insulin is hardly affected. To me it makes sense cause i wouldn't mind my great aunt who is a diabetic to try the atkins or another low carb diet to help here with her blood sugar problems.
Avatar f tn Over the course of 5 mins, drink all of it 1hr before my appointment. The actual test at the office was just a finger prick and didn't take any extra time than a normal appointment. Sounds like there are a few different versions of the test out there, so it would probably be best to ask your dr office. I'm surprised some people have to wait the in the actual dr office! How inconvenient!
Avatar n tn Some types of sensory neuropathies occur and progress very slowly, others sort of wax and wane (with flare-ups) and some are progressive. One of the most common causes of neuropathy is diabetes, and sometimes only glucose intolerances, or abnormal rises in blood sugar after a glucose load can be the only indication (this is called a oral glucose tolerance test.
Avatar n tn Bottom line, you're not doing your body any good by consuming junk foods and sodas. Continuing along this line will eventually lead to diabetes.
Avatar m tn No it was covered. Because she touched the edge of the condom ( tip of the condom ) and told you are finish. Then i removed the condom. I didnt roll it back, i just pulled out. My head was covered. What you say about symptoms?
Avatar f tn I added some stuff in the store but the majority of it, I did on the net.. I got the consumer reports on baby products and read the reviews on the babies r us web page. After my shower I went to babies r us and bought everything on my registry that somebody didn't already buy for me... since then I have been scolded by people who wanted to buy me something, but I just tell them.. "hey you've had 8 months to do that..
Avatar m tn Does anyone know what the rate of false positives is with this test? I know that with HIV RNA test the rate is very high so wondering if the HCV RNA test is the same.
Avatar n tn Hi, My mom is a diabetic and I was just wondering to check my glucose levels to make sure that I am okay. She has an On-Call glucose monitor. I changed the lancet in pen stick to puncture the skin and then used a new strip for readings. So my question is that I used new lancet and strip so is there any risk of infection whatsoever? And also tell me that if i will catch diabetes this way.
Avatar n tn I usually do a 45 minute routine on the treadmill or a combination of treadmill, bike or resistance. I have found over the last several weeks that my glucose levels rise after exercise in the AM (I workout before eating), usually as much as 30-40 points (from 103 to 145 for instance). In the afternoon, my glucose levels usually fall between 20 - 25 points. Any ideas about what's going on?
Avatar n tn It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
