179856 tn?1333547362 Timing is everything. And for the Solar Dynamics Observatory, launched into orbit this past February, the timing couldn't have been better. The SDO helps scientists study solar storms, and for a long couple of years prior to the launch, those storms were few and far between. Our nearby star was in a deep sleep, largely devoid of the sunspots, flares and prominences that indicate heightened magnetic activity.
148588 tn?1465778809 Contrary to popular belief, the process of manufacturing solar panels can and does create enormous amounts of harmful and toxic waste. Because the most of the solar panels consumed in the west are manufactured in China, the nature and extent of this pollution is hidden from the consumers of solar panels. We get the illusion of 'green, clean energy' on our shores, by exporting environmental ruin to the countries where the panels are manufactured.
Avatar f tn Its like when I stand on the beach and look out over the ocean and watch the movement, all that power is humbling. It is like being close to God.
Avatar f tn Last year I believe I developed a sun allergy, after prolonged exposure to the sun I would get itchy red bumps in the evening and the next day they would be gone. As of this year I have been in the sun and have experience nothing. I was wonder if I spent some time in a tanning bed would I break out in the red bumps like the sun exposure? Not that I am interested in tanning I am just curious if it would have the same effect as the sun on my skin? thanks!
Avatar n tn m 25 now, and went to a concert this year without sunblock (how smart of me), and my face got a little sunburned. The little bit of redness on my face caused my whole face to swell up to the point where I almost couldn't see out of my eyes. It took a little over a week for all the swelling to go down. Any ideas what this could be?
148588 tn?1465778809 State of the solar industry: 10 stats to know 1. Two-thirds of all solar PV capacity has been installed since 2011 That's some serious growth. Two-thirds of all solar capacity worldwide was installed since January 2011. It's even more impressive because, the preceding four decades only saw 50 gigawatts of solar power installed worldwide, according to research by Green Tech Media. 2.
148588 tn?1465778809 As The Los Angeles Times reported recently, the Kochs and ALEC have made similar efforts in other states, though they were beaten back by solar advocates in Kansas and the surtax was reduced to $5 a month in Arizona. But the Big Carbon advocates aren’t giving up. The same group is trying to repeal or freeze Ohio’s requirement that 12.5 percent of the state’s electric power come from renewable sources like solar and wind by 2025.
Avatar n tn Within a week, the blotchiness areas will come about the 2nd or 3rd day of being in the sun and will remain a few days after the week is over. I usually put regular lotion on the areas to moisturize them so they wont itch so much, this helps some. I've also learned of something called Tinea Versicolor and have seen pictures and my case looks very similar to that.
163305 tn?1333668571 And I meant that in the nicest possible way;-) It's supposed to be gorgeous here in Houston. Teko... you should come here and watch it with me. I'll even make up my spare room for you to stay in and I'll put you up for the night. We can drive down to Galveston and sit on the beach and watch it together, all the while, arguing politics and at each other's throats. Doesn't that sound like fun?!?
206807 tn?1331936184 Solar industry advocates said the failure of these three companies is not indicative of the health of the U.S. solar industry as a whole and that overall the Energy Department's loan guarantee program has been a success. "In the last 18 months, solar companies have either added or expanded almost 60 factories in the U.S. and driven the installed cost of solar down by 30 percent," said Rhone Resch, president and CEO of the Solar Energy Industries Association.
Avatar m tn Hi Fedup, I am sorry to hear about your on-going undiagnosed pain. We know how very frustrating that can be. My heart goes out to you. In layman's terms the the solar plexus is located in the area just below the chest and above the stomach. Is that where your pain is located? It may be time to consult a new PCP.....someone that is not associated with your current one. However I might give your physician one more chance. Impress upon him how you are feeling....
Avatar n tn I've had angioedema around the vermillion border of my lips for approximately 4 months now. I feel fine otherwise and my CBC, HIV and C1Q tests came back normal/healthy. I've also been treated with antibiotics, antihistimines and prednisone and it hasn't helped the swelling at all. At this point, my doctor suspects that I might have a solar allergy and he and prescribed me Plaquenil (200mg BID). I've been taking it for 5 days now and so far there have been no results.

Avatar f tn But now after my marriage it is becoming darker and increasing in size. I consulted a dermatologist and he prescribed me A-Doxid which cured the spot while I was taking the medicine. But they reappeared soon after. My physician told me that it is not curable. Is there any cure for it in allopathy? If not, then are there any home remedies which can minimize them? What is the main cause for this? Please suggest me any alternative methods if available.
148588 tn?1465778809 The investment bank has developed an economic model to show how solar panels and batteries will within this decade become competitive and disruptive technologies. The cost of solar panels has collapsed, falling by 85 per cent in the last seven years and UBS expects the cost of lithium batteries to halve by 2020.
Avatar f tn (CNN) -- An upper layer of Earth's atmosphere recently shrank so much that researchers are at a loss to adequately explain it, NASA said on Thursday. The thermosphere, which blocks harmful ultraviolet rays, expands and contracts regularly due to the sun's activities. As carbon dioxide increases, it has a cooling effect at such high altitudes, which also contributes to the contraction.
148588 tn?1465778809 The Survivor Library is a compilation of the tech advances we gained from the early 1800s to the early 1900s. One of the observations Mr. Rawlins makes is, that in putting this together, he came to realize what a harsh life people had at that time compared to now, but it wasn't bad compared to life in the 1400-1500s. It's interesting just to see the list of all these areas of knowledge even if you have no interest in learning beekeeping or blacksmithing.
163305 tn?1333668571 The scientists are virtually unanimous that climate change is real, is caused by human activity and is already causing devastating problems in the United States and around the world. And, they tell us, if we do not act boldly the situation will only become much worse in years to come in terms of drought, floods, extreme storms and acidification of the oceans.
Avatar m tn You need to see an Eye MD ophthalmologist, you need your eyes dilated, you need a test called Amsler grid and you need a Macular OCT. That is the way our practice set up for the post eclipse eye injuries. I suspect you did not have all those tests. So get in to an Eye MD and ask for those tests.
163305 tn?1333668571 Setting up a myriad of solar-panels in the middle of the desert and trying to harness the power of the sun to power cities? Horse pucky, I say.
Avatar m tn I have seen three different opthamologists and a retinal specialist - all have said my eyes are perfectly healthy and show no signs of solar or diabetic retinopathy. OCT has been done 4 times along with fundus photography and there are no visible signs of any damage. The pain, blurred vision, sensitivity to light and dim vision have not improved. Is it possible to have solar retinopathy and have all these tests come back "normal"?
Avatar m tn Yes it could be solar retinopathy. Use the search feature and archives. We have had several discussions on this within the past 60 days. You will not hurt your eyes by reading, light, uring computers now. There are other possible causes. You need to make an appointment to see an opht;halmologist Eye MD. Have your family MD refer you or if you live in the USA find one at www.geteyesmart.
Avatar m tn I have been checked by a dermatologist and nothing is cancerous. I went to a skin care clinic and they have advised the following treatment: “Laser treatment to Cherry Angiomas immediately. We use a long pulsed Nd:Yag laser for this and I would anticipate removal of these in one session with no real issues. Commence Obagi Nu-Derm immediately for the reduction in hyperpigmented areas.
