119341 tn?1232563757 ScienceDaily (Feb. 29, 2008) — Thalidomide, a drug blamed in the 1950s for causing birth defects, is now showing promise as a safe and effective treatment for women with recurrent ovarian cancer, according to a study led by a University of Minnesota Cancer Center researcher. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Levi Downs, Jr., M.D.
167426 tn?1254086235 ” The study compared the effectiveness and safety of the combination of thalidomide and topotecan, a chemotherapy often used for ovarian cancer, versus topotecan alone for treatment of recurrent epithelial ovarian cancer in patients who had received prior treatment. Epithelial ovarian cancer is a disease in which cancer cells form in the tissue that covers the ovary.

Because both agents have antiangiogenic properties, the combination of the two might be more effective than topotecan alone, Dr. Levi S. Downs Jr., of the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis and associates speculated.
Avatar f tn Someone said that Topotecan worked better when combined with thalidomide -- don't know much more about it than that, although when I have chemo again (when the Arimidex doesn't hold my counts steady anymore) they are threatening me with topotecan next.

Avatar f tn Hi, Prurigo nodularis is very hard to treat, but current therapies include steroids, vitamins, cryosurgery, thalidomide and UVB light. In the event that staphylococcus or other infection is present, antibiotics have proven effective. A physician may administer a strong dose of prednisone, which will almost immediately stop the itch/scratch cycle. However, cessation of steroids allows relapse to occur, usually within a few weeks.
601038 tn?1240252893 s usually the price and not the origin that is the determining factor for me.I know that sounds horrible, but financially my husband and I are on a pretty strict budget. I am proud to say though that both of my sons, who seem to be more financially secure then me,[most likely because they still live at home LOL],always look for the 'made in America' label when purchasing things.Although that 'label' is getting harder and harder to find these days.
Avatar n tn There is no such disease in my family, neither from my parents nor grand parents.I would like to know the origin of this disease.I would like to know of any existing test that will be able to reveal its origin.Thank you very much.
Avatar n tn I have been treated with several meds, including, but not limited to Iodine drops, Thalidomide, Prednisone, and topical steroids. I am now on 10 mg of Prednisone. I have been on that dosage for 6 years now, and the medication is not treating my body very nicely with weakened joints that ache, bad bruising on my arms and legs, weight gain, and a host of other problems that go with the steroid use. One of the best things for the E/N is the application of a topical steroid, Lydex cream.

4703993 tn?1379768388 So after a lot of trial and error with my electrophysiologist - he believes I do not have POTS of a peripheral origin, but from a central origin... which is much less common and a lot harder to treat... Anyone else diagnosed with POTS with a central origin?
Avatar m tn If we are strictly talking about lung cancer, the differentiation is based on whether the cancer has small cell features. The origin is not really important in determining treatment options, and hence, there is no routine testing done to perform this function of differentiation. Stay positive.
