Dear Doctor Thanks for the time and effort you gave ! ! It's Tinea Barbae for sure ; as I've been taking Terbinafine 250 mg po for past 2 wks and the symptoms have dropped by at least 50 % ! ! Topical antifungals have had no effect.

He prescribed ciclopirox which I used for 5 weeks with maybe 25-50% improvement, but it would occasionally flare and come back just as strong. (this is what the dermatologist also thought, Even though there was nothing found in the scratch test, And had me take an oral medication as well as topical cremes but nothing worked). For people who have tinea versicolor, Can they have it and then it goes away (so does not show up on the test) but still have the spots as side effects?

I've had Tinea Vesicolor for about 7 years now. I'm 22 years old now, male and weigh 193 lbs. When I first discovered the rash, my mom took me to the hospital and the doctor gave me a prescription for Ketokonazole SHampoo 2%. After a few days this cleared up the rash which was located on my chest and left upper arm.

Strangely enough, by the way, topical terbinafine can sometimes be helpful in tinea versicolor but is not an ideal treatment for it. There are a number of skin conditions that can behave the way you describe, like scabies, eczema, psoriasis, pityriasis lichenoides and many others. I recommend a consultation with a board certified dermatologist for proper diagnosis and treatment.
