Avatar m tn Hello and hope you are doing well. Your blood pressure, urea and creatinine levels are within the normal range. Also, you are on telmisartan, belongs to the class of angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors which may decrease the rate of decline in kidney function. However, levels of microalbuminuria above 30 are indicative of early kidney disease. Am not clear about the normal ranges specified by your lab. So, please discuss the possibilities with your doctor.

Avatar m tn But basically, angiotensin receptor blockers (losartan appears to be the weakest; the rest are good; telmisartan appears to be strongest) and ACE inhibitors (perindopril - not the others) have been shown in recent years to halt and even reverse aortic root dilatation. The key is that the drugs must be taken in sufficiently high dosages, which often means the maximum FDA-approved dose or higher.

Avatar m tn I am on these medicine for last 15 years except Telmisartan which i am taking for last one year and have reduced dose of Atenolol from 50 mg (BD) to 25 mg (OD) PLEASE HELP.
Avatar f tn Bp was still not getting controlled and i was started on telmisartan and also amlodepin along with the metoprolol. The bp was then controlled well for about 3 months, however the anxiety continued. Since the last week my bp is also increasing to 140/90 along with the anxiety and also i am experiencing what i think is hot flashes. Can you please explain the connection between these symptoms and their relation to menop[ause. What can a person do about the same .
Avatar f tn You take metoprolol, diltiazem, enalapril and telmisartan. The first two agents address primarily heart rate (HR) but are not great blood pressure (BP) drugs. Speaking of HR, what is the reason that you see an electrophysiologist? Atrial fibrillation? and are you feeling poorly when your heart rate is 40s?
Avatar m tn My son has an enlarged Aortic Root 3,84 and Z score of 3.6 and is 14 years old and is 5 ' 8" tall and weighs 136 pounds (it was 3.5 cm 8 months ago and Z score was 2.6). He is a nationally ranked runner and they have told him that he can no longer run. My understanding is that the numbers at the 5 cm is the number that they start to recommend surgery.
Avatar f tn Hello, I'm the mom who has a son that was diagnosed by chance with a bicuspid aortic valve and dilated aortic root at the age of 13 years old. He was diagnosed in May 2008. Initially the ascending part of the aorta was 2.6 and has progressed steadily with his six month checkups to 4.0 as of Feb 15, 2010. His root measured 3.8. He has had all genetic testing (Marfan's, Loeys-Dietz, Famial Thoraic) and they were all negative.
Avatar m tn I ended up on a prescription of 40mg of Telmisartan and 2.5mg of Nebivolol daily, and a diuretic which was cancelled by my Doctor. The Telmisartan was pared back to 20mg some time later after my readings were getting too low. My BP is around the ideal 120/80 mark and my resting pulse is normally around 50 but sometimes gets as low as 45.
Avatar m tn I am hypertensive for the last 2-3 years and had a BP of 150/100. The doctor has now put me on Telmisartan 40 mg and Amlodipine 5 mg (it is one tablet per day) for 2 weeks. My BP has now reduced to 140/80. I was asked to take a 2D echo and a tread mill test yesterday and here are the findings : 1. 2-D Echo findings - Mild LVH. LVID-d : 3.92mm, LVID-s : 2.06 mm, LVPW-d : 1.22 mm, LVPW-s:1.64 mm, IVS-s : 1.11 mm, IVS-d : 1.27 mm, EF-70%. Normal LV Systolic function (EF 70%).
Avatar n tn If I were to guess which it would be the Losacar. The Losacar in the angiotensin antagonists category of bp medications and they often cause this side effect.
Avatar m tn My Mom has Type 2 Diabetes and High Blood Pressure from last 10 years. She is 63 yr old. She is a strict vegetarian. Also, she has complications like Diabetic Neuropathy.
Avatar n tn My doctor put me on a medicine called Micardis HCT which is a combination medication with the common diuretic hydrochlorothiazide and the drug telmisartan. This is the first time I have been on blood pressure medicine, and the drug has worked very well in terms of my blood pressure itself. I take my pressure at home with an electric blood pressure monitor and I now average about 130 over 72 to 75.
Avatar n tn I don't know anything about Atenolol and I haven't looked it up, but if possible side-effects listed include weight gain, I think it worth your time to see what you doctor can recommend as a good change (lower dose, or alternative medication). At 6' I think you should target getting more than 20 pounds off, I'd think you'll feel better and have less diabetes risk if you get down to about 200.
Avatar n tn I get that dry cough too. I don't take an ACE inhibitor though, I don't think. Just Lopressor, Dyazide/Maxzide, Lipitor and aspirin for the heart issues. For me it started a couple of years ago one summer after pushing myself too hard. I start coughing out of the blue to the point of either just about passing out or vomiting mucus. Urgg My chest hurts and feels sunken in, pounds very hard and quivers sort of and then I'm fine till it happens again.
Avatar m tn After looking at the results he confirmed that I am hypertensive and have administered me with BP drug Telmisartan IP 40mg. After this I am continuously monitoring my BP for next two days after taking the drug everyday in the morning after break fast and the readings are 130/90 and 130/80.....I have following questions: 1. Am I required to continuously take the drug life long (prescription by doctor was for 30 days) 2.
Avatar f tn meanwhile i had a fight with mother and felt tightness in the chest so when to a doc and he said my blood pressure is high and put me telmisartan 40mg so i am wondering whether my bp high could have a withdrawal symptom. does that need be corrected by bp meds.
Avatar n tn (By the way, although losartan is currently being researched in Johns Hopkins clinical trials, other ARBs such as telmisartan are probably most effective given their increased lipid solubility and thus increased tissue penetration.) I strongly encourage you to visit www.marfanlife.net and find the very lengthy thread titled "Losartan" or something to that effect. Probably some of the most important reading of your life.
Avatar n tn Click on my screenname and look at my old posts about ARB and aortic aneurysm. ARBs (like telmisartan) are drugs that have been shown to stop aortic dilatation in MFS patients because it reduces the signaling that causes the aortic dilatation. I believe this is the same signaling that causes myopia in MFS, so if you halt the signaling with ARBs, you might halt increases in myopia just like you halt increases in aortic size.
