Avatar n tn Chronic teeth grinding can result in a fracturing, loosening, or loss of teeth. The chronic grinding may wear their teeth down to stumps. You can wear a mouth guard that's available in most sports stores but if it continues, you should see your doctor. Good luck!
Avatar n tn Front teeth are fine. My dentist has told me that I have a bite problem an the grinding pressure on my molars has caused bone loss and gum recession. I went to a periodontist a few years ago, and he agreed with the assessment of the bite problem. We discussed braces, but his concern was the the bone loss was such that once moved, the teeth might not set. So we have not done anything other than frequent cleaning, and a night guard.
Avatar n tn I wear a tooth guard at nights to protect from grinding of my teeth but there is still wear evident on the tips of my teeth. I have receeding gums but no peridontal disease, I have been told it is from clenching my teeth excesively. My gums have receeded to the point that I can see where the enamel stops. I am in no discomfort but I am concerned about the future. Should I do something like get veneers to protect my teeth in the future?
Avatar f tn I've had this issue with a few of my pregnancies. My Dr. Told me its just due to hormones that makes muscles relaxes. It ***** but made me feel better hearing it happens. Luckily it has went away after my last birth and I'm hoping it will stop after this one lol. Hopefully yours gets better.
Avatar f tn Any head injury may cause teeth grinding. I had a TBI and I am not sure I am grinding my teeth in sleep (bcuz I wake up with dizziness, headache, fatigue everyday/all day) but planning to go to a TMJ specialist at some point.
Avatar f tn My bf told me after I mentioned it that I have been grinding my teeth at night. Never have b4 anyone going through this? Or have you guys heard of grinding your teeth while pregnant?
10069532 tn?1407594111 Hey ladies. Here recently, I guess I have been grinding my teeth pretty bad in my sleep. I know that after I have my baby, I will have to get at least one tooth pulled from breaking. What have you ladies done to stop the grinding? I keep waking up because my mouth hurts so bad from the grinding. :( I'm 31 weeks, and don't know how I'm going to deal with 9 more weeks of this pain.
Avatar n tn About a year ago I started clenching my jaw and grinding my teeth in my sleep. I realized I was doing this after waking up a few mornings with horrible headaches and pain in my jaw. My dentist fitted me for a mouth guard (which I wear every night) and then things seemed a little better. Well for the past 2 months I feel like I am doing it more than ever. I wear the mouth guard every night but I am waking up with jaw pain. Is there anything else I can do or take to alleviate this?
Avatar n tn the amount of pressure in night time grinding is what wears our joints and cracks our teeth. i cant tell you what to do but you need to discuss this with a dentist and if he suggests only wearing it during the day GET A SECOND OPINION!! if you get the splint issue worked out and you have pain in the muscles in the face and jaw sometimes physical therapy will help. good luck and let me know what happens.
Avatar n tn I have been grinding my teeth at night when I sleep and it is causing jaw and tooth pain. I recently went to the dentist where we discussed a custom made mouth piece that I would wear at night. The only problem is that it cost about $800.00!!! There is anohter mouth piece that they can make that is a "lesser model" that is about $300.00.
Avatar m tn Hi everyone, anyone experiencing the teeth grinding/biting. Also I had a crazy breakout yesterday which was Wednesday, my shots are friday nights and normally my flu like symptoms are just pretty bad saturday afternoon. on Wednesday i'm at work and about 10 am i started shivering to where it was like winter. 2094952 tn?1334015457 My 4 month old Maltese is grinding his teeth or something. It is almost like he has a plastic pop cap in his mouth and he is biting down on it.
Avatar f tn UGH Have a new symptom, excessive teeth grinding/clenching. I have always grinded my teeth at night, but now I do it all day, it's gotten to the point where it's because very uncomfortable and painful. I literally can not stop, no matter how hard I try. I understand that this could be related to anxiety, but sometimes it literally happens all day on days where I have no anxiety. Anyone experience this???
601114 tn?1220533411 teeth grinding is something that can be fairly common for children and adults. Often, people grind their teeth when they are stressed out about something or anxious. It can be difficult to address this issue with a 4 year old though. Are you aware of anything that may be causing some anxiety? A new routine like beginning pre-school, a move to a new location, house, etc? If it really becomes a problem, you can take him to the dentist and they can fit him for a mouth guard...
187316 tn?1386356682 Aspen keeps grinding her teeth and it is driving me insane. I keep giving her things to put into her mouth so that she wont grind them because I think that it could be causing damage and dont want it to become a permanent habit. Does anyone know of anything to get babies to stop grinding teeth?
427382 tn?1298209586 Is there any other babies out there grinding their teeth? Mady finally has her top teeth sprouting out and now she grinds them. I am debating calling the dc. but wanted to see if anyone else has the same problem.
Avatar m tn Currently, I have been having a wide range of symptoms and it has me really worried. To begin with, I have been grinding my teeth since the age of 9 or 10. I only grind my teeth voluntarily and do not do it at night. Furthermore, I twist my torso/lower back, similar to how I grind my teeth. My lower back and neck is always stiff/rigid. Both of these motions are voluntary and doing them leads to relief. Also, I have experienced muscle twitching since 10 years of age but only once a month or so.
Avatar f tn In responding to a previous question, my 89 year old mother withalzheimer's started grinding her teeth about a year ago. I've found that giving her a piece of gum to chew alleviates the grinding. She grinds her teeth many different times--I don't feel that it is always stress related.. I have even heard her tell herself to stop!
Avatar f tn So, finally went to an ENT, he talked to me for like 5 mins and said I had TMJ (arthritis in the jaw). It is caused by grinding your teeth. So, now I sleep with a mouth guard & that has never happened again. But, I do have perm hearing loss from my jaw staying swollen for soooo long. The swelling pushes on the back of your ear drum. So, I would get it looked at ASAP, if I were you!!!
Avatar n tn I have a problem with my hearing that makes dental work nearly impossible. It's called Hyperacusis and it makes normally bearable sounds unbearably loud. Exposure to harmful noise worsens my tinitis and has made my hearing worse in the past. I wear earplugs everywhere and in extreme cases wear ear muffs over them. Unfortunately, none of these precautions help when it comes to some dental work. It turns out the rotating head used to clean teeth is too loud for me due to bone conduction.
4494800 tn?1355440491 ve made a bad habit of always grinding my teeth when doing anything tedious... i.e. playing video games, taking a hard test, solving a difficult puzzle.. whatever. Is it possible to develop a TMJ issue from doing this all those years? Two weeks ago i started experiencing a lot of pressure in my left ear accompanied by a pain that i thought to be in the inner portion of my ear. I went to the doctor thinking that I had an ear infection of some sort..
Avatar m tn I have bad bone loss on my front teeth and the dentist says it is forces on the teeth making the bone loss worse. He wants me to get fitted for an occlusal guard to wear at night. I wonder if this is not a whole lot different than a simple $12 night guard you can get at any pharmacy. They want to charge $350 for the fitted guard.
Avatar m tn Stress, any injury to the jaw, dislocation of disc between ball and socket of the joint, grinding the teeth can all lead to Temperomandibular joint disorders. There may be pain or tenderness in the face, limitation of movement at the joint, difficulty in chewing, swelling on side of face, clicking sounds in jaw joint etc. A careful history, physical examination and X-rays will help in determining the cause. Consult a dentist. Do keep me posted. Best luck and regards!
