tarceva

365470 tn?1232747095 Is your husband participating in a clinical trial? Sutent and Tarceva have some similar side effects, which is a rash and diarrhea, however patients who have hypertension may have problems with blood pressure on Sutent. Alternatively, perhaps there was simply some misunderstanding when the doctor was discussing the treatment.
Avatar n tn This would be dependent on how well he is able to do his daily activities (this is taken as an index of the burden of disease, meaning how much the disease is affecting his daily living), as patients who are very frail may not be able to tolerate the side effects of cytotoxic chemotherapy. Since he had some treatment before, then he would have some insight into how well he was able to tolerate the treatment before.
Avatar n tn did she have lung and rain cancer to or just lung ? my doc said no to tarceva cause it spred to brain i was wondering maybe was this the same as your mom?
Avatar f tn Edema (fluid accumulation in any body part, resulting in swelling) has been reported as an adverse event in 37% of pancreatic cancer patients taking Tarceva, although this side effect has not been reported in lung cancer cases. However, the type of edema associated with Tarceva use is either generalized or involves a swelling of both legs. Swelling in only one leg may not be due to this drug. Unilateral leg swelling may be due to a local infection (cellulitis) in that area.
Avatar n tn His left lung was removed and now he received 4 rounds of chemotherapy. The lymph nodes on the left side of the lung were effected and removed. He is receiving cisplatin and taxotere as his treatment. His brain scan, abdominal organs all were clear at the time of the diagnosis. Yesterday he had an abdominal ultrasound (not due to any complaints) which showed a 15 milimeter 'something" in the liver.
Avatar n tn I was then diagnoised with NSCC of the other lung, they found a tumor on the Junction of the upper and lower lobe of the left lung. Avatar n tn Asians, women, non-smokers, and those with adenocarcinoma histology. This drug still has been found to benefit males, smokers, and those with squamous cell histology, but to a lesser extent.
Avatar m tn Yes, it means that the cancer has developed resistance to tarceva. The best choice of treatment is the one established by your oncologist.
Avatar n tn Some centers perform genetic testing to check for mutations that seem to predict response with this medication. Tarceva has a different side-effect profile than conventional chemotherapy - generally milder/less life threatening complications and seems to work well in poor performance status patients. In general though, plans change depending on how well the cancer responds and the patient tolerates treatment. Keep an open mind and know your options.
Avatar n tn Recently, she has been experiencing a lot of confusion. I cannot find anywhere that this is a side effect of Tarceva (it is the only drug she is on at this time). Is it possible that she has a brain metastases? If not, what are the likely causes.

PRAISE GOD...and thou I realize that 5 yrs is maybe the magic number for most lung cancer survivor's...is it also meant for BAC Lung Cancer...I have heard not so.... Thank you for any information you can give me....
Avatar f tn Hi, Your concerns are valid. Lung cancer is afterall, the biggest cause of cancer mortality. For this post, I can only work with the stage information, your doctor likely has better estimates. Much of the answer here depends on how much the disease is affecting her daily living. If she stays in bed most of her waking hours, then treatment may only make an impact on symptom improvement. If she is able to maintain a fairly active lifestyle – then treatment may help extend survival .
Avatar f tn The pain i get daily is from my chemo medicine, Tarceva. Along with some other side effects. Losing my hair was bad enough but putting on 20lbs killed me! not really :-\ Anyway, its nice to know i have people out there who really care. I wish there was one of these sites for cancer patients. There probably is but im rarely on the computer. If any of you all are interested, my sister put up a website for me called Gina's Angels. It talks about how im doing and shows pictures and stuff.
365470 tn?1232747095 The post of kindd relates to skin cancer. This is a lung cancer forum, but people do on occasion post other cancers.
Avatar f tn In lung cancer, there are assays for quantitative testing of epidermal growth factor receptors (EGFR), which confers sensitivity to some drugs used in lung cancer like Iressa or Tarceva. The cost of testing can range from a few hundred dollars (e.g. ER/ PR assays) to around 3800 dollars for the Oncotype DX test.
Avatar m tn He started Tarceva this January but it seems it did not work as the cancer spread to brain…. 9 mets were identified in the initial MRI 2 weeks ago but the subsequent MRI right before yesterday’s gamma knife procedure (which removed 7 mets) evidenced numerous other tiny/small tumors spread all over the brain….He has been in relatively good condition (eating well, no weight loss) until these new mets emerged (which affected his walking and reading ability)….
Avatar n tn Is it possible that the fluid was not IN the lung, but around it, caught in the pleurum, which are sacs surrounding each lung. Any tumour in the lymph nodes in that region can cause them to cease draining properly and cause fluid build up.
120574 tn?1240767840 3% with gastroesophageal cancer, 5% with pancreatic cancer, 1.7% with unknown primary, 1.5% with lung cancer, 1.3% with colorectal cancer and 1.5% with renal cancer. 79% were managed non-operatively and 21% had surgical exploration. The 30 day mortality was 12.5%. These authors suggest that most patients with bowel perforation can be managed non-surgically.
Avatar n tn Cancer removed May 22, 2007, chemo July 2nd through October 8, 2007, and radiation on left breast November 2nd through December 26, 2008. Side effect from Taxol perminent numb toes, side effects so far from Tamoxifen body temperature changes of warmth then cold. The web page sites and telephone numbers did not have this information.
Avatar f tn Can you tell me a little about various treatments for lung cancer? What would be the side effects? At this point it is unknown whether this is small cell or non-small cell, and more is unknown than known. I wonder if, once confronted with results of the PET scan and brain MRI, my father will decide against treatment. His primary care physician has said treatment would likely be chemo, as it is difficult to irradiate such a large area.
4461995 tn?1357955108 Stage 4 lung cancer is a pretty advanced stage. During the treatment, there are various side effects of chemo and radiotherapy, low immunity and hence secondary bacterial and fungal infections, low emotional well being, fear, guilt, etc. The patient needs all the support she needs in form of help at home, looking after her food, medication, attending to her when she is vomiting or generally too low to look after herself, doing her shopping, taking her to hospital etc.
Avatar n tn Hi, The requirement for 2 chest X-rays doesn’t indicate lung cancer. Talk to your doctor about the indication for the tests. Cancer forms a mass in the lung. For some cases, the mass can be visualized well on a chest X ray, for others, it may be better to go for another imaging tool such as a CT scan. Stay positive.
Avatar n tn There are a number of drugs and combinations of drugs that can be used for lung cancer - part of the decision would be to consider which side-effects may be unacceptable.
Avatar m tn Dear all, My brother has been through chemotherapy using combination of GEMZAR and CARBOPLATIN for his lung cancer treatment.
