6708370 tn?1471490210 IMHO - go to urgi care now, get rapid flu swab, get anti viral ( tamiflu) if positive.... I'm so not into meds but I got this Tx wk 4 & couldn't take anything & still ( in week 10) filled nasty in chest!!! Do not collect $200- go straight away & get checked , only 48 hour window to treat....
Avatar n tn Like any virus, there are no antibiotics that will get rid of it. You have to treat the animal with aggressive supportive care and hope that it outlasts the virus. There are going to be ups and downs as the dog's immune system tries to fight off the infection. Do you know where your dog was infected? Did you purchase or adopt an infected dog? I ask because parvo is a very hardy virus and can live in the environment for months.
Avatar n tn Have you ever had the flu pregnant and how did it effect you and the baby? Also what did you take to treat it my Primary Dr. Wants me to take Tamiflu and im not comfortable with it.
501663 tn?1238377713 Thanks for your responces. As far as symptoms I have swollen joints and fatigue, many symptoms or Ra. Which led my Rhumatogist to treat me with Methotrexate before ever knowing I have Parvo. They also in fact they treat parvo with methotrexate, Other syptoms I have are rashes and sun sinsitivity I have lung problems and they believe that also may come from the parvo.. Interesting....
Avatar n tn I bough a puppy for 5 days and got very ill and started vomiting and having the runs, took her to the vet and she had positive test of parvo we paid almost 300 dollars to fight parvo, but unfortunatly she died the breeder will replace her with another one and he has put all the litter on atiboitics, do i insolate her until she has all 4 parvo shots? how do i clean suede type couches or i dont let her get on it until her 4 shots?
Avatar n tn Bring a stool sample for each of the puppies, though they probably both have the same parasites. Pit bulls are susceptible to Parvo so Parvo vaccine is extremely important. At 6 weeks of age Strongid or Panacur worming medicine is safe, however it does not treat Coccidia or Giardia. The sulfur medicine is probably OK if they don't lick it off.
Avatar f tn You need to call your vet and tell them what is going on they might let you make payments or they might be able to tell you how to treat him at home.Your vet would give him iv fluids and meds to help with vomiting and diarhhea and antibioics to help with any bacterial infection.Parvo attacks the stomach lining and is very painful.Usually with treatment they start feeling better within 3-5 days. Please keep us posted. You will be in my prayers.God Bless and Take care.
Avatar n tn Tamiflu is completely safe for pregnant mama's. I'm a pharmacy assistant, a dispensary assistant and used to be a medical receptionist and a practice manager. So I'm partially aware of what's safe and whats not (obviously not as advanced as doctors and pharmacists) but it is most definitely safe to take. It's generally used for Influenza though not just a common cold.
Avatar f tn 30 weeks pregnant, has anyone ever took tamiflu while pregnant? Any side affects to you or your child after birth?
4355200 tn?1354593144 htm The thing about Tamiflu is that I think you are supposed to take it within 48 hours of *developing symptoms* rather than exposure. Tamiflu is for postexposure prophylaxis rather than a prophylactic. http://www.tamiflu.com/hcp/prescribing/hcp_prescribe_adults_prevent.jsp Hopefully someone who has more insight will chime in. I hope this all works out and your grandson is OK.
Avatar f tn alright than you, and they took no tests they didn't even ask to take any sample of blood or urine they just said x ray
468939 tn?1207165712 You definately need to get him to the vet if you haven't already! Is he up to date on his shots? It could be many different things but off the top of my head Parvo comes to mind first. I know with Parvo they will not eat or drink anything, and they will also become very very weak. If it is parvo your pup needs to be started on an iv immediately. If your vet is not open on weekends go get some Pediolyte or Gatorade.
Avatar n tn Agree with vaccine & tamiflu. Influenza can be deadly, especially to high risk groups like moms, seniors, newborns. Be glad medicine is helping, rest, don't worry about side effects if OB prescribed.
Avatar n tn Was your dog up to date on his vaccines? Did they test him for Parvo?
Avatar n tn told us that he was not eleigible to recieve a prescription for Tamiflu. Where can I find any federal or state restictions for eleigibility.
Avatar n tn I am not sure what is wrong with my 4 month old puppy. He has gone poop and it is normal. not bloody or runny. He also has not vomited at all. He will not eat, and he is very lethargic. Pretty much sleeping all day. This morning as well as one other time, I noticed his head shaking a little. Now it doesn't seem to be happening. I am scared of Parvo. I am wondering if we are wasting time just sitting here, but I am not sure he is really sick.
Avatar f tn I'm 19 weeks and doctor prescribed tamiflu to start right away.. has anyone taken tamiflu while pregnant and had a healthy pregnancy and baby afterward?
Avatar f tn It does depend on what is wrong with him. And of course, only a vet can tell you that. I do hope he is ok. If he has not had his yearly shots, it IS possible he could have come down with Parvo. If so....well, a few dogs do make it through. Mine did. If he HAS had his hots, then this could be a few different things.
Avatar m tn All dogs get upset tummies, but usually this can be traced to some kind of dietary indiscretions. If you are 100% certain he didn't get some unsuitable treat or food from anywhere, and can be sure that's what he threw up...then it would be best to take him to the vet. This could well be just an upset tummy and would get better on its own, but best to be on the safe side with him.
Avatar f tn My OB called me and told me that as a prevention she wanted to put me on Tamiflu which is not recommended for pregnant women because the side effects are unknown. She said that the benefits would outweigh the negatives most likely because there have already been deaths linked to this strain of flu. The pharmacist didn't seem worried because I am 18 weeks along. Any of you ladies been put on tamiflu? Should I trust my doctor and pharmacist?
Avatar f tn How serious is it to me if I am exposed to Parvo at 34 weeks? Someone at work has a son who has Parvo and she comes to work everyday, I haven't read/heard that can be to serious but if anyome has any advice/knowledge please comment.
Avatar n tn My advice is do take your dog to the vet as soon as possible. There is a stool test for Parvo which can tell quite quickly, if it is this virus or not. Parvo does usually present with a fever, lethargy, vomiting, and very watery diarrhea usually with blood . But even though your dog doesn't seem too bad otherwise, there is no harm in being certain. If it IS just a very badly upset belly, well, you will have erred on the safe side.
Avatar n tn If a dog has been in a house where there was parvo about 6 months ago, but did not get it ( and he was very very young 1 mth old) and has had all his vaccines since, he is now 7 mths old, and has never been sick, and the house owner bleached and ripped out carpets.. Can he be carrying the disease? Is it possible to be a carrier or have parvo germs on him? where he could contaminate my dogs with parvo?
Avatar f tn at 10 I was running a high fever and felt horrible.. I was trying to give the meds time to work before I went to hospital, finally dozed off at 11 and woke up an hour later, no fever and felt a hundred percent better! Point of this longgg story is I agree with the above poster that go to dr and fet tamiflu ASAP!!! It worked better than anything ive ever used!! Hope you feel better soon!!
1843959 tn?1324629150 Since vomiting and diarrhea are part and parcel of parvovirus, THE main thing you need to concern yourself is keeping these puppies warm and keeping them hydrated. The easiest way to do this when they have parvo is to put IV fluids in but put them in subcutaneously, or under the skin. It will leave a bubble of liquid under the skin that the puppy's body will absorb as it needs it. When the bubble is gone, put in some more. Make sure they have some fluids in them CONSTANTLY.
