My OB called me and told me that as a prevention she wanted to put me on Tamiflu which is not recommended for pregnant women because the side effects are unknown. She said that the benefits would outweigh the negatives most likely because there have already been deaths linked to this strain of flu. The pharmacist didn't seem worried because I am 18 weeks along. Any of you ladies been put on tamiflu? Should I trust my doctor and pharmacist?
I'm sorry about the late reply. There is little data about the effects of how influenzae in the mother affects the baby. There is some information that the virus can cross the placenta and affect the baby, but not all babies are affected in this way. The information about outcomes is also scarce: some studies have suggested the possibility of increased developmental problems while other studies do not confirm this.
Hi i just went to the Dr today ans she put me on anxiety meds and a anti depressent.She told me one of the side effects is suicidal thoughts,has anyone ever experienced this? i havnt taken it yet cause that scares me!!! I stay home with my 2 little boys and i dont want to have those thoughts and its just making my anxiety worse thinking about it.Please help!!
the virus itself causes pneumonia, pneumonia is a symptom not a condition....check the expiration date on the tamiflu and a pneumonia shot probably wont do any good seeing as this is an unseen unheard of virus until now.

I am 5 weeks pregnant with my 3RD baby. I came down with a cold on Thursday. My cough is horrible and I have been running fevers a lot. I called my OB and she called in a RX for tamiflu. I've never been on it before but she assured me that it was safe. She said my cough may turn into pneumonia or bronchitis and that may be worse then taking the meds. A woman in her 40s who was taking care of her mother (the mother was sick with the swine flu) was refused TamiFlu medication because she had had three negative Rapid-Flu tests (whatever they're actually called). told us that he was not eleigible to recieve a prescription for Tamiflu. Where can I find any federal or state restictions for eleigibility.
